Seems to be a few films recently that dont appear to be getting Blu ray releases in the UK. Brigsby Bear (Although I`ve ordered off Amazon Spain for £9 today - Includes shipping so not too bad) , Battle of the Sexes, The Ritual, Mollys Game (Although that may change just havent seen anything yet).

Hopefully other regions blu rays will be region free

Had to get Brigsby Bear the same way, it's ridiculous that these films aren't getting any sort of blu-treatment in the UK.

We're entering an age where major films aren't going to get any availability outside of Netflix. Following on from The Foreigner and Redford/Fonda's Our Souls at Night in the UK, Alex Garland'a Annihilation won't be getting any theatrical or physical media release but is gong straight to Netflix outside the USA, the third 'Cloverfield' film, The God Particle, will only get a theatrical release in China and no physical media anywhere else and it's looking increasingly likely that Netflix won't allow any theatrical or physical media releases for Martin Scorsese's De Niro/Pacino/Pesci teamup The Irishman.

Seems like a great time to prepare to end watching new films. The theatrical experience has dwindled in quality, and now, a disturbing number of films are going to Netflix streaming only. Well, I'll be damned if I'll accept that. I'll continue to go to the cinema (unless it gets really bad) and to collect films on disc, namely Blu-ray and Ultra HD Blu-ray. But I dropped Netflix over a decade ago, and I'd rather give up watching movies--as much as that hurts me to say--then sit at a computer or a "Dumb" TV to pay (!) to watch them, while Netflix and the Hollywood majors laugh their way to the bank.

Thankfully, I have plenty of discs to watch. In fact, if I started through them again tomorrow, I'd probably die of natural causes before I got through all of them twice.

I agree. I have a collection of 4,800 Blu Rays & DVDs a lot of which I have never watched as my first priority is the cinema, that releases on DVD/Blu Ray that I have never seen, and then re-watching films again on physical media that I love or want to revisit.

There are numerous things on Netflix that I would love to watch but I'm not going to subscribe to them. I look at their films as 'lost' like Murnau's Four Devils & Lubitsch's The Patriot.

If Molly’s Game misses out on a Blu release I’d consider that a huge blow against physical media, it’s a highly accessible film, moderately successful and great credentials and it goes to DVD only? I don’t buy they can’t recoup their investment with manufacturing Blus with that one, sure it’s only mid-mainstream, but up until this point it’s really only been niche titles. Soon it’ll just be the Disney Marvel and Star Wars movies available on Blu.

Out of interest, how many of you guys here revisit films on streaming sites?

I do, but only very rarely. It'll either be something I want to watch again that I don't own or if I am with friends. But the selection of films on most streaming sites is garbage.

I think Molly”s Game isn’t helped by it being an independent production so not a single Hollywood major with global distribution. Will almost certainly get a BD but possibly not UHD in the US as it’s Universal there. Here in U.K. it’s eOne who of all the big distributors are probably the worst for disk based releases. No UHDs and hit and miss for BD. They also almost always don’t do better than 5.1 tracks when other countries have the BD with 7.1 or Atmos. Even Studio Canal are starting to move to UHD with their largest titles such as Paddington 2.

I'm inclined to agree. If they're really so determined not to give me the opportunity to watch this stuff... I'm happy to oblige.
Plus, if there's something truly irresistible (doubtful these days)... there's always Pirate Bay.

Hostiles hasn't even got a DVD announced yet, let alone a Blu Ray, here or in the US. Hoping that changes very soon.

I don’t know what others think but I am happy to give my money to the likes of Indicator and Arrow who are producing great BDs of older films. Although most I have never heard of am happy to give them a go and steer clear of new stuff if all they want is Netflix and streaming.

I was a little disappointed that Leatherface went straight to DVD, as I was quite looking forward to picking that one up on blu-ray.

Not sure if this is the right place to discuss it, but I was surprised that Detroit didn't have a 4k release either. Just DVD and blu.

If it's any consolation Leatherface has just been released on Blu Ray in Australia.

Hostiles exceeded box-office projections Stateside last weekend, so that will definitely get a US Blu. Unfortunately despite a surprisingly big marketing push and good reviews over here, like most Westerns it did poorly at the UK box-office so we may well have to import this one.

I have the two most recent DVD releases , the second being the film four version. (The FF is an improvement PQ wise on the first dvd)

I have a feeling that it may be coming through BFI as they have in the last year pushed out My Beautiful Launderette, Letter To Brechnev and a Ken Loach box set.

I hope my instinct is right as it deserves the upgrade.

If not, Warner Archive may get round to doing it Stateside, though their DVD used the slightly redubbed soundtrack to make the Scottish characters sound slightly less Scottish.
