Since the actual film is readily available on YouTube, it's not too unrealistic to also be looking for a restoration featurette. It would actually work in favour of folks purchasing new Italian or German blu-rays so wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing imo.

No label is going to put features exclusive to their release in their entirety on youtube or any other site. At the most, teasers or small snippets from those features to make you want to see more, but it is these extras that provide a stimulus for people to actually buy the fysical product instead of just streaming the content or looking for it on pirate sites.
I personally am not that interested in the restoration feature, I feel I already got a proper explanation of the process in these various Suspiria threads (lol) and the end result is in the 4K transfer that was also used for the Italian blu-ray. From those caps, no difference is visible that would make me believe the Italian label did not know what they were doing with encoding this transfer for blu-ray (I believe that was the argument given), all the hype was to sell licensed product. |

Nobody said that the italian label was not knowing what they were doing.
Torsten only pointed out that there would be still room for a little improvement with the encoding and colorspace etc. I cant understand where the high expectation was coming from. 2 different Blu Rays from the same source always look almost identical if both Labels know their game. And without a doubt everyone could see that the Italian Disc has a good Encoding. The German one is slightly better (a little better defined, no Letterbox Ringing etc.) but thats not so important for viewing it in Motion. Whats better on the german release is the English Audio. I testet that today. The English 2.0 Surround Track on the new German Blu Ray sounds richer, better defined and more powerful than the English 5.1 Track on the Italian Blu Ray. And it has more Surround activity. But considering Synapse has access to the full glory in terms of English Sound this will be the best for all English Viewers. |

I was disappointed with the documentary. It's only about the restored credits, the clean up (dust, scratch, tear) and the missing frames. I would have like to learn more about the workflow used for the colour correction using the many references Torsten talked about especially what he refers to as the "Post Technicolor Palette Restoration". I was expecting the documentary to be the "document" that would made people understand that the colours on this blu-ray are indeed respecting the original intended colour palette but it barely talks about colours.

I enjoyed the restoration documentary A LOT!
It was very interesting to see all the problems he and his people had to overcome for the final outpout. I especially liked the comparisons. The Color Reference that Torsten used was well known and is also written down in the restoration booklet. So therefore there is not much to say anymore. Either you believe his reference and trust his work or you dont. Simple. In my opinion the only thing that matters finally is personal taste anyway. I have restorations on Disc with severel experts telling to the world that its now true to the source but i still like another master better. So in the end its all about personal taste. This time im lucky because i like the TLE Restoration of Suspiria much more than anything i saw from the film before. Back to the documentary: The many other problems with the material are adressed in detail in the over 50 minutes (!) long restoration documentary. And i loved that. It was very interesting to watch. Will also be interesting to see how synapse deals with all the flaws because they worked from the same source. The time the synapse disc is finally coming will be very interesting for all suspiria fans. Im looking forward to dozens of comparisons. ![]() |

For this you need a film crew at a moments notice virtually on call the entire duration of the work. This needs closely nit coordination, scripting in advance and during the work as materials on loan are involved and time schedules for the various shots have to be chosen for the documentary, a very extensive editing process and - time and budget. All of these we did not have enough of - priorities had to be made. The work came first and always will. That is why the documentary came out the way it did. It was and is a compromise with the little time and budget we had. Details on the materials and workflow are included much more extensively in the booklet. And, that the original intended color palette is "barely" talked about is also not accurate. You should know better ![]() best, TK |

I managed to get 2 of these sigh. Don't ask I've placed an ad in the trading forum $100 delivered within the US. Anyone outside of the US postage would have to be extra.

I'm quite surprised - this has been in public hands for over a fortnight now, and no screen caps/comparisons/reviews.
Very quiet. |

The video is near identical to the Italian, I'd say the grain structure looks a bit better, but i upgraded tv and blu ray player since I had the Italian so difficult to say. If you liked the Italian and are still holding out for the Synapse no real reason to buy this. I found the restoration documentary interesting, I think Danny mentioned more on what he would have liked to see included a few posts back. The English audio is nice and booming which for this film is a must, the package and extra booklets, photos are ok on a sliding scale of good to pointless.

The screenshots linked by SwissHD have gone, the site just brings up a file not found page.
Keen to buy this when a regular version becomes available. Not really interested in the Synapse tbh. |
