Haha! Tell em Walt, Dark Force seems shady and unprofessional. Their releases (artwork) look bootlegged and they try in sucker people into buying their releases for a free magnet or some posters they have found lying around.

In the Don't Look in the Basement thread, someone with both the Dark Force and Brink copies said that although the Dark Force encode is better, the master used by Brink is much better. That person preferred the Brink version.

The Brink version is also paired with a better movie that makes a lot more sense, so perhaps the Brink is the superior choice afterall overall.

It would be nice to know exactly what is cut from this release if anyone has or is familiar with the 98 minute vhs.
I've been aware of the shorter version but never seen it, I have the full length tape.
When my copy arrives I will check into it...
from memory I recall reading all the exploitation is in the shorter cut.

problem is my memory ain't what it used to be

Worst, though, were all the weird colored blotchy blobs moving around on the image. I don't know what to make of that! I recall someone saying something like this about "Don't Look in the Basement" which I didn't buy. I guess it could just be a defect on the print used, but it's quite weird and I don't think I've seen such a thing on countless drive-in prints I've watched over the years, and it's the most distracting part of the transfer. Overall, it looks like a decent, but somewhat worn, theatrical print, and for a "drive-in" series like this, I suppose it's all acceptable. It surely looks better than the old VHS.

However, back to the VHS from Media Video, the print of the film on that old VHS ran 98 minutes, although the box mistakenly said 84. The print on the Dark Forces release runs 89 minutes, so shorter by 9 minutes? Uh-oh. I like the film, but don't know it by heart, so I would have no idea what's missing.

Eerie Midnight looks better because no weird blotches, and I bet it's identical to the Code Red blu which we all probably have, so who cares anyway? Drive-in mode? Nah, I have enough trailer compilations so skipped this feature.

Not unhappy with this purchase and maybe this is the best we'll ever get of "Vanished", and that's why I jumped quick as the supposed legal issues with the film had me worried this may get pulled quickly. But I may wait for proper reviews for other titles in the future.
I found some VHS-rips on YouTube that run 94 minutes. I don't know if that's a different VHS than yours, or if your runtime included leader at the beginning of the tape. But either way, the Dark Force blu is still missing something.

All my old tapes are in storage, so I'm the last one who could verify now or do a side-by-side, but I used to write very described reviews of tapes and various cuts just as a reference, and I have all those all saved in Word, and I clearly mentioned the film itself running 98 minutes instead of 84 on the Media release, and I never included any leader time, etc. when I would write down the running times. I did check youtube, and there does appear to be a 94-minute version on there, but the uploader appears to be in the UK so it may be a PAL faster-speed version that would be several minutes shorter due to being in PAL.

Hopefully, a super-fan of the film will speak out eventually as to the differences and what's cut, but really, the big deal is simply that it's cut, regardless of what's missing.

I wonder what kind of look DeFalco gets when he goes in and orders 50 custom magnets with Packards ugly mug on them. Does he still rock the 90's faux hawk hair and the teen goth contacts from Hot Topic?

I wonder how many editions of Chaos and Back Lot Murders he'll shit out.

Lightning Video VHS definitely runs 99 minutes.
Dark Force may just represent US theatrical prints?

When my Blu shows up I will run the 84 min YT version,
the 99 min VHS & the DF 89 min Blu and take notes.

Three versions of this film and I can't find any reference as to what is what.
Are trims censor or exposition?

Yes, please let us know what the differences are.

But just to clarify, I'm not sure if the "84 minute version" is on youtube. There's a 94-minute version on YT that may only be the 98 minute version but simply in PAL speed.

The film was first released on VHS by Media Video at 98 minutes, but the box mistakenly indicated it was only 84 minutes. Later reissued by Media Video with different cover art, still mistakenly saying 84 minutes on the new box, but film still actually ran 98. Then Lightning Video released it under the "Scream and Die" title also at 98 minutes, and then again, Video Treasures (Media at that point) released it again under both titles at 98.

So the '84-minute version' may be hard to find, or never even existed, at this point. All we have is the 98-minute one and the Dark Force version at 89 minutes.

Please let us know what differences you discover. This mystery needs to be solved.

Added. I couldn't find any technical specs regarding the disc, or the official release date, so hopefully someone can add all that later. I'll add the artwork as soon as it's approved, if someone else doesn't do it first. Also, if a Mod or Admin could add Dark Force Entertainment to the list of labels, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The Media vhs under the title HOUSE THAT VANISHED is missing footage, & represents the US theatrical cut. The Lightning Video SCREAM & DIE vhs is the only uncut version of the film that has been released in the US.

I'd agree with you, but a mod would delete my post again. Just like this post will be deleted.

Honestly, it's really hard for me to get behind this company. Whoever runs their facebook is nice enough, but all they do is go on and on about " this disc is selling out in all the BIG stores!". They are constantly posting about how Kino is demanding they press more because all the discs are selling out and there's so much demand. And whatever title just came out is ALWAYS their best selling title. They talk about it and reference it so often it seems like bullshit. I don't see the buzz they are describing, I follow 700 other collectors and the only thing I've seen is a few people post Offerings. Maybe it is real, I just don't see it. Also, too much gimmicky stuff with magnets and posters and beer coozies and stress balls. AND the bullshit of releasing two covers, weeks apart, one is numbered and one is not to "ensure both become a collector's item" is so lame. Like, I have no interest in the doubles because I already bought half of the films when they were released by Code Red the first time. I am picking up Offerings and Kill or Be Killed, but I obviously don't need films I already have. Plus, honestly I don't see this shit being as collectible as they say it will be. I hate to be a naysayer, all of it just seems really strange and off putting to me.

They screw up the printing of the Offerings cover, and then turn around and try to sell a repress with 'NEW IMPROVED BOX ART' advertised among the specs, as if that's some sort of generous bonus feature/selling point, instead of something they should have done right the first time? And, of course, no one who bought the low-res cover will get a replacement copy. Completely shameless.

Their tactics just feel so cheap and unethical. It's a shame too, I was initially really excited about the company. Apparently Bill is "making twice the money he does with Code Red from his OTHER BUSINESS" which is obviously Dark Force. I just find it hard to believe people are taking the bait. I'm pretty sure these titles are mass produced and aren't limited at all. Obviously I could be entirely incorrect, I just know when Kino presses CR discs they are mass produced as hell.

And according to the guy who is behind this company CHAOS is the most brutal film ever made, and he will make all of you double dip by releasing his film again, this time color timed with extras, so that too is a shameless marketing thing
