That's been on the list since day 1. The aggravating factor is that there was a brief digital release.

Wasn't it broadcast on 3DGo! in 2016?

FandangoNow has added a few more 3D movies to it's app for Oculus VR headsets. One of the new additions is DreamWork's Trolls.

So we can add that one to the Digital Only releases list in addition to Captain Underpants.

I went ahead and purchased Trolls. The 3D presentation is very good. I would have preferred a 3D Blu-ray release but this will do for now.

Thanks, I have updated the lists. What an awful way to limit the release of these 3D movies.

Due to licensing and copyright restrictions, digital-only releases are unfortunately not accessible in many countries. VUDU is US-only, for example, while Sky and Virgin are based in the UK. Below is a list of all the 3D movies that haven't come out on 3D Blu-ray but did get a 3D digital release somewhere in the world at some point:

Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie - FandangoNOW app for Oculus Go / Quest VR headsets
Ferdinand - HBO, Sky Cinema
Fly Me To The Moon - HBO
Found Footage 3D - Shudder
Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds Concert - VUDU
Hondo - broadcast on 3DGo! in 2016, no longer available
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation - VUDU
Jackass 3D - unknown if still available
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience - VUDU
Mission Impossible Fallout - Virgin Media, Sky Cinema
Monster Trucks - Sky Cinema
Pete's Dragon - Sky Cinema
The Pirate Fairy - VUDU
Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast - VUDU
Trolls - FandangoNOW app for Oculus Go / Quest VR headsets
A Wrinkle In Time - Sky Cinema

There were others on the PlayStation Store like The Mad Magician and the Three Stooges shorts but these aren't listed here as they eventually did come out on 3D Blu-ray.
Is anyone able to burn these to a BluRay for purchase?

One movie that I want in 3D is Tom Cruise's 2013 SF film, Oblivion. I swear that I saw it in the theater in IMAX 3D but can't find proof that it was released theatrically in 3D. Does anyone else remember seeing it in 3D?

Another movie that I'm pretty sure was shown theatrically in 3D but not released on 3D Blu-ray is the 2012 Battleship.

Wouldn't mind seeing that remake of Ben Hur.

Both would have been perfect fits for 3D but as far as we know neither were released that way, unless there were conversions made for China...

Watching it in 2D I was constantly reminded of how much better it would look in 3D. The credits really rubbed it in my face. And now, it's like the film never existed.

Battleship was definitely not screened theatrically in 3D.

Oblivion was 2D only on all screens. Kosinski went with 2D only because of the fact that most of the film is set during the day, opting for brighter projection over 3D.

Stumbled on "Big Buck Bunny" today, which is being offered by the creators as a 60fps or 30fps (your choice) active 3D download or stream. The entire short is free. It's only 10 minutes, but a nice price;

Stereoscopic 3D

Full HD (1920x1080 x2) (60 or 30fps)
4K, Quad-Full-HD (3840x2160 x2) (60 or 30fps)
Native render size (4000x2250 x2) (60fps only)

Bumbebee has made its way to SKY on demand / SkyTV in 3D as of a few days back. So its now available on demand but not in the US. Perhaps Vudu will add it soon

Does it contain the 3D version with the IMAX ratio on the on-demand version?

I have hope for some of these movies never released on Blu-ray 3d (or at all in 3d) to come to VR. Bigscreen VR has been showing new 3d movies every week and today starts "3d week" with Top Gun, Ghost in the Shell, Terminator: Genisys and Transformers: Last Knight. Right now they are partnered with Paramount to do official movie screenings for 3d at 10Mbps (not bad imo and have to start somewhere).

A couple of points that are interesting are in the "What's coming next" part of the update text:

*a new feature to rent a 3D movie and watch with friends for free in your own private room. pick from a library of tons of movies, and watch anytime you want

*adding more 3D movies from more movie studios, and licensing it in even more countries

Who knows, this could renew interest in 3d movies and even trickle down to blu-rays or other high-quality forms of 3d media consumption. I'm just hoping to be able to at least buy for keeps some 3d vr media that is not available anywhere else. Come on MI6 and Bumblebee!
