Apparently there's some mild DNR, but overall a positive review. The Atmos was well received.

From The Digital Bits’ review:

Quote:
Normally, I’d object to the use of noise reduction, but this is a rare case where I think it actually serves the film well. By its very nature, this film is never going to be reference quality compared to the best other titles on this format. But this is by far the best, least digital, and most even and consistent I’ve ever seen Forrest Gump looking before.
Curious to see what it actually looks like.

Being Paramount, I expected some DNR. Hopefully, it's very mild.

What is it about the movie's nature that prevents this from being reference quality? Why is a movie like this automatically written off from the format's top tier...?

My thoughts exactly. It's a nice looking film and has never looked bad on home video, a big Hollywood film like this should be on par with the UHD of Groundhog Day for instance.

What the heck?! Why in the world would they do a DNR job to this beautiful film? That totally would destroy the point of even having this on 4K. I hope the disc isn’t as bad as it sounds from the review here. Anyone else sampled it yet?

Just wow! I can't believe Paramount ruined this transfer!

Robert Zemeckis should be angry... if he even cares.

Very disappointing as this was one of my favorites growing up! Will wait for more user reviews before deciding to pass on it. Second poor review though concerns me.

It's been forever since I watched it, but didn't Forrest Gump have a pretty nice looking Blu-ray? Especially following the DVD which had some pretty bad edge enhancement. How did they botch the UHD so badly?

Yes, it does have a nice Blu-ray. I really don’t see how they could have messed this up on 4K. Will need to wait on more reactions to this but it sounds like it might not be worth getting.

If you sold off the Blu-ray already you might as well wait on a price drop on the 4K. It has the Blu-ray Discs too. Then you can compare.

Or conversely just rebuy the Blu-ray if you want.

Some things never change.

I think anytime Paramount or Universal for that matter releases a catalog title, expect less than optimal. DNR is really just part of their philosophy. Sony on the other hand has a much different view.

Definitely getting this still just a matter of when now. Was really hoping they wouldn’t butcher it.
