I watched the 84 original a few months ago after such a long time, and what impressed me about it was how much of the film was actually rather smart. It got the relationships between the various characters absolutely spot-on, and aside from the fantastical element of the story, the interactions were all adult and fairly sophisticated without any unnecessary cynicism. Seeing it with fresh eyes helped me to appreciate aspects of the film I hadn't really noted as a kid.

Why so many people saying let this franchise die?

One classic movie, a not as great but still damn fun sequel and a misjudged politically correct offshoot that really wasn't that bad after all said and done. Ghostbusters is a fantastic concept. My fear for any new movies is that a lot of what made the original great just can't be replicated in today's world. If this really is a direct sequel to the first two then it's biggest challenge is replicating the tone and feel of them.

Agreed with others about Egon. Its OK for a character to have died in the movie. Maybe after many years of being out of the Ghostbusting lark they all meet again after Egon's passing? I dunno. Just please no Egon CG ghost, it's obvious and tacky.

Is this too little too late? Has the damage already been done? I thought the 2016 film had a great cast, but what soured it was paying homage to the original, but not actually be in the same universe. And Paul Feig really mucked it up with his style of improvisation in almost every single scene. The jokes weren't that great. It felt more like Judd Apatow and less Ghostbusters. I feel like this movie is coming in as a big apology, but in reality this should've happened in the first place.

Seriously though, I hope the old cast comes back, remedy their awful cameos in the 2016 film.

I'm sure Aykroyd and Hudson will be in this and some tribute paid to Harold Ramis, while Weaver could be a hit or miss not sure if she's still filming the Avatar sequels if she is then she would be out. Murray will be the game changer as he knows it! I'm sure Ivan has a direct line to Bill instead of having to call his 800# to ask if he wants in. Of course I would think Jason Reitman has two scripts, one with Murray and one w/out!

I agree about those two.

As this appears to be an actual sequel to the original films, I think it would make sense for Ray (Aykroyd) to serve as something of a mentor to the new team. He would help with the tech and mostly be around the firehouse (or where ever this takes place, with the teaser showing some kind of barn or something).

Since Ernie Hudson is still in great shape, he could help train them "in the field" when catching ghosts.

Murray is the wild card. Honestly, while it would be cool for him to be in it, I would only want him there if he is going to be into it and give it his all. I don't want to see him "phone it in." It's better for him to not be there if that were to be the case.

I, for one, welcome more Ghostbusters. I found the reboot harmless enough, despite what some people claim, but ultimately forgettable. I'm certainly not bitter because I didn't get a proper Ghostbusters 3 the first time, so I'm all open to getting a new sequel of sorts now.

Murray is shooting films for both Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppola this year, so I can't see him having time for anything more than a cameo in this one.

Not sure if anyone picked up on it, but that teaser trailer is set at a farm. Didn't Ray say he lost a farm in the first Ghostbusters? Maybe he got it back.
