Any truth to Oliver Krekel handling Cujo for the German release?

The Eureka contains the so-called director’s cut (which is the U.S. edit of the film). This German release’s reference to the theatrical cut is talking about the truncated theatrical cut for that region. We’re not getting anything extended, in other words, just the correct version alongside a trimmed-down one. Still, they’ve been working on this for five years, so I’m very excited about the possibilities of the image quality.

Wrong. The THEATRICAL CUT was not just cut down for Germany but it is the official international version of the film. I myself owned a UK VHS that also contained this version. It is shorter than the US cut but contains an alternate version of the sex scene between Dee Walace and Christopher Stone. The search for a theatrical print still in existence in order to scan this scene in propper HD was one of the reasons it took Indeed so long to finally get their release out. At first it looked like no 35mm elements for this scene could be located. This would have ment for it to be taken from an old, beat-up VHS tape (like all the bootlegs of the film that were released in Germany over the years did.

Before you get hot: the alternare sex scene ist mothing spectacular. While in the US version you just see Donna and Steve AFTER they had sex and Steve plays a few notes on a trumbone, in the international version you see them HAVING sex. Donna sits on Steve and has an orgasm. But do not expect to see any mudity. Dee Walace wears a red sweater in the scene.

Who's brilliant idea was it to move this whole thread to the German section rather than just the last 6 posts?

So a) I said the director’s cut = the U.S. cut and at no point did I say the theatrical cut was German only, and b) one added scene does not negate my statement that it’s truncated and contains, collectively, less footage than the U.S. edit. The point is there’s nothing new, fresh or exciting about the director’s cut because it’s what the whole entire world’s been stuck watching for years, nor is the international cut worth getting excited about because you lose a lot of superior scenes for one unspectacular sex scene.

For Germany, the Theatrical Cut with the Theatrical audio is soemthing great, and it is superior to the former german releases of the "Director's Cut" (as the International Home Media Release Version was released as since VHS and LaserDisc), since the Movie got redubbed for that version, and there was no official Theatrical Release with Theatrical Dub since original Warner VHS.

Since 2007 ther eis a third German dub, that was produced for VOD services, I never heared it, seems as if that Dub is on this upcoming BluRay.

The old re-dub was very bad, and, like the re-dub of The Running Man, it was often called "p***-dub" because it was lifeless spoken, and wasn't really fitting the movie, like the people where just reading the script, and not acting it for the dub. Also some of the voices where just not fitting.

So, yah, this is exciting! and even if I already have the two UD BDs, the UK Eureka BG, the old Universal UK DVD, the licensed switzerland DVD (same as the licensed German e-m-s Disc), the german DC VHS (was my first VHS of that movie, when I was a youth), three german Warner VHS (I wanted to make sure have at leats one release with theatrical Dub), the German LaserDisc (DC with redub), the US 25th anniversary DVD and the paramount AU DVD.. not to mention at leats one of the infamous German Bootleg DVD... I'll try to get one of the Mediabooks. Hope it is the last time I have to buy that Movie...

You wrote "This German release’s reference to the theatrical cut is talking about the truncated theatrical cut for that region." which for me reads as if the theatrical cut was especially "truncated" for Germany. And this is not the case. It is an alternate version, distributed internationally by Warner, that speeds-up the plot in order to faster get to Donna and Tad held hostage by Cujo in the car.

The cut on the Eureka BD is the superior cut in my opinion anyway.

I simply meant comparing the edit Germany got vs. what the U.S. got, irrespective of what any other part of the world got. And I maintain that one bump-and-grind scene is not worth the loss of all the other footage the international cut is missing. More importantly, my main point from the outset was that the presence of a director’s cut on this new release is nothing to get excited about because the director’s cut is what we’ve already been enjoying worldwide for years and the other cut is a lesser thing.

you know it's too bad that Shout likely won't get a deal on this title considering Olive still has it

I know they ain't perfect but I know they'd make probably the best edition of the movie and I'll take anything from them over what we have currently, including the old Lionsgate edition

Find me a way to get it in the United States without bending myself into a pretzel and I’ll be all ears.
