Besides, the extras on the SE DVD/BD were decent enough already. It's not gonna break my heart if Warners don't include anything new on the UHD (which they likely won't). What's important is that the film itself looks stellar.

Also, Criterion are overrated idgaf.
Hey no I get it. But like I said I don’t see much of a difference with 4K.

What I really want is improved audio. It’s pretty quiet on the Blu-Ray we have now.

IIRC, The Shining’s Blu-ray uses one of those bitrate starved transfers from the HD-DVD era, which makes this a much needed upgrade.

The Aussie BD is the US cut, it's a direct port of the US version. UK and Europe got the shorter one.

If the EU version lacks the REDRUM scene, that is the nail that seals the coffin for the EU version for me.

I haven't watched the Euro version yet, but I'll watch it once just for shizz and giggles

The international cut isn't missing the REDRUM scene. It's missing the "Danny's not here, miss Torrance" scene.

The fact that it's missing that, along with Wendy's forced soliloquy where she for some reason speaks out loud what her plans are in detail, as well as the infamous skeleton scene makes the shorter cut better to me.

I like some other stuff from the longer cut, especially the extended job interview in the beginning.

But I suspect that the vast majority of people who defend one cut ahead of the other grew up watching that cut and are attached for it for that reason. I definitely like owning both cuts though.

Great news about the announcement. Unless the UHD format disappeared completely, I knew that Warner would release this for sure in 2020 for the 40th anniversary.

I like that skeleton scene, as cheesy and clumsy as it may be. I was so accustomed to the shorter cut before the BD came out that watching the longer one is like finding extra pieces of candy in the corner of the bag

That’s what I meant. The scene where he starts saying REDRUM and she runs in there. Unless you mean it cuts out before he says “Danny’s not here miss Torrence”

How much do ya'll wanna bet we'll get the original Warner Bros Big W logo restored? Going by recent Warner BDs and Archive releases reinstating their original indents at the starts, I say it's very likely.

I sure hope so. That’ll be amazing. It adds a very sinister vibe to the movie right from the start. The other WB logo just screams “happy” to me.

Adding to this, i'm also 1000% sure the UHD will be a brand new 4k resto for both cuts (and not some shit 2k upconvert+DNR job Universal would do like with JP), but the standard BD would likely be the existing disc unless they make market it real big like The Matrix and 2001 and have the BD remastered as well.

The static WB shield that's on the BD screams "1990s master" to me bro.

I love that scene too as the "rot" and "decay" of this place of unholy evil is slowly being revealed. Its mask taken off.

I suspect they will do a remastered BD. This is one of their flagship titles.

It won’t happen, but it would be so good if they made both cuts available on the same disc, by seamless branching...

Harry Potter is their biggest franchise and they didn’t update the BDs. All UHDs include the same old Blu-rays with the same HD-DVD transfer for the first films.

Sure, but remastering 8 movies is a lot more expense and effort than remastering 1

But they remastered all films for UHD, but chose not to downsample it for BD! That’s the point! Even the original DI colorist returned to make the HDR grading.

They re-scanned the first two films and made a brand new 4K master. Making a new BD would be a no-brainer. Several studios do that, but not Warner.
