Maybe one could rip the LD and make a uncut version with a rip of the UHD.

I used to have the one on the far-left, and it was not the unrated cut. A friend of mine had the unrated Laserdisc, and I only saw it once.

I'm most familiar with whichever version was released theatrically and then vhs. Though I do have the unrated LD as well. Remember seeing this in the theater and thought it was really unique at the time since the slasher formula was pretty stale for years. It wasn't the first "self aware" horror movie of its kind by any means but it's arguably the most influential. The movie had a huge impact back then and still does to this day. Hope this is definitely getting released since the blu is pretty mediocre.

The unrated version of Scream was released in the U.S. on physical media in the Laserdisc format only. It was not released on VHS, DVD, or Blu-ray. And that's all I have to say.
If anyone wishes to see the cut footage, here it is: |

[Show spoiler] . The camera rehearsal being the closing shot of Scream 2 is definitely mentioned in the commentary and I don't think Williamson wrote Ghostface being in the bell tower- it was just something they threw in thinking it would be a hook for the third film. Such a good choice to ditch that idea, but it would be interesting to see it if the film elements still exist. Also from my memory they were going to tease Ghostface at the end of Gale and Dewey's 1st scene (after Sidney punches her again). If you notice at the end of that scene they dissolve to the sorority party. Originally the camera panned and Ghostface was shown stalking them. Smart to get rid of it again- seeing as the colleges courtyard is established as such a well populated area. Obviously even a psychopath isn't just going to traipse around in full costume. Scream 2 was such a mess from a production standpoint that it is kind of a mini-miracle that it turned out as well as it did. Between part of the script making it onto the internet, to them basically having to improvise most of the third act. I really hope if it gets a new physical release that we'll get to hear more of the stories that went on behind the scenes- especially now that Weinstein is out of the picture. |

The Scream 4 script by Williamson is a hot mess. He tries to cram so many things in the final 15 pages. Jill's original monologue is way shorter and has nothing to do with social media or fame at all. So if Ehren Kruger came up with that, then I'm glad. Also love the hospital ending he wrote and probably the best line of the film, "Don't F with the original." The final 15 pages of Williamson's Scream 4 script have so many typos. There's so many great lines not in the original script: "Before you get in the car you have to promise not to kill me", "One generation's tragedy is the next one's joke", etc. Rebecca’s parking garage scene is also very short in Williamson’s script. It just has her walking to the car, Ghostface calling her and saying “to make Sidney stay in town I’m going to kill her assistant” and hangs up, then appears beside her car, arm breaking through the glass and grabbing her by the throat. Speaking of the weak Ghostface calls in Williamson’s script.. it’s prevalent. Sidney’s call in Olivia’s bedroom is just something like “I’m going to make a Stab 8 where you die” and that’s it. The phone call in Kate and Jill's kitchen is short and boring in the original script too. The Cinema Club scene doesn’t exist in Williamson’s script. It’s just Gale and Dewey questioning Charlie and Robbie in the classroom and Charlie saying he’s not a slasher person. “I’m more cult, Argento, early Lynch, my tastes are subversive.” The Stab-a-thon doesn't exist in Williamson's original script either. Gale is useless in the movie and just follows Dewey or Hicks around. Williamson’s original Scream 4 draft had an English teacher named Mr. Baker who was a suspect even though he only had a few lines. The doctor at the hospital was also Steven Orth’s older brother, who may have been a red herring. Also, Sidney is much more mopey in Williamson’s script. She even says “I hate my life” lol what. Why did he make her sound like a teenager. Basically all of Sidney’s dialogue is changed and way better and changes her as a person. Williamson’s original script also hints at a 3rd killer. There's a Ghostface who tied up Charlie and is playing horror trivia with Kirby and Sidney.. while Jill is still in the house upstairs and Deputy Hicks and Gale are also at Kirby's. Gale disappears for some reason and reappears at the end when Dewey shows up with the media. Williamson's entire third act dialogue is just so bad. He set up Kate's murder and Kirby's house, but it's different and not as good and plays out differently. So please stop giving Williamson praise when his original Scream 4 script comes off like a bad fanfic. Whoever did rewrites saved it. |

I think you make a good point. Williamson definitely deserves credit for the first film and for other things he wrote around that time, but he basically wrote one draft for Scream 2 and then was unavailable for rewrites (because of Dawson's Creek) so Craven and the cast had to rewrite it as they went. And then even do pickups and reshoots at the end of filming to fill in the gaps.

Just a fun sidenote: some of the regular VHS editions for Scream also had the NC-17 cut. I lucked out when my dad bought me both 1 and 2 when I couldn't decide between both, and much to my delighted shock, once Steve's guts hit the ground, I instantly realized I had somehow stumbled onto gold.
This is the case I have, btw: ![]() |

It's OOP since forever, but one can still buy it used. I'm holding it dear at any rate. Actually still the only version I own, since the BDs of 1-3 are no good and I never bothered. EDIT: Going by caps-a-holic, I think it actually looks better than BD lol. Now I know again why I never bothered. Last edited by andreasy969; 06-18-2021 at 06:48 AM. |
