Using Wonder Woman as an example. Was the CGI fest in the third act in keeping with the pacing and narrative of the first two acts? The movie was building to something (are men worthy to be saved) and the CGI mess was totally out of left-field and not in keeping with the themes of the movie set up.

I just kind of expect/ hope for a big scale fx heavy finale with these kinds of movies. I want to see OTT comic book action and spectacular superhero powers when the hero has their big showdown with the villain.

Probably that relies in shang-chi comics to understand what went in the movie. They know better to do the film.
Why are you comparing Marvel with DC?

The big CGI finale isn't limited to just Marvel.

WW84 is a movie of it's own, shang-chi is a movie that belongs in the MCU.
Probably the CGI in each feature are differente because they're there for differente purposes and not to be compared.

I was talking about the CGI finale the first Wonder Woman movie. The CGI finale in WW84 is the least of its problems.

Were you talking about the 2017 Wonder Woman film or Wonder Woman 1984? I'll just assume you were talking about the former.
EDIT: Just came to know you were talking about the 2017 film. Great.

Wonder Woman's 3rd act felt forced. All of a sudden that guy just became Ares, and it just didn't feel right. Probably because WB interfered and wanted an out-of-season big spectacle of an ending when it was not required at all (they were still anti-Snyder), but most of the time especially in Marvel films, these CGI fests feel right and bring a satisfying closure to the film. Just my opinion.

I think some people forget CGI is just another tool to tell a story - like the cinematography, the music, the editing, the production design. It is more important to judge how these tools are used to advance or complement the story, not something that exists in a vacuum.

Having seen Shang-Chi five times, I feel all of the elements are well-aligned and work in harmony to tell a compelling story.

For me, the CGI finales that felt right were Infinity War, Endgame, and Doctor Strange. The movies were building to that CGI and the length of the battle felt right. A lot of times the CGI fest goes on for so long I check out. Which is what happened (for me) in Shang-Chi but I enjoyed act 1 and 2 so much it's a minor gripe. Will definitely watch the movie again and get it on 3 formats (4K, 3D, iTunes).

I just think the movie would have benefited from a more scaled-down and focused finale (just my opinion) and concentrated on the compelling characters and get rid of all the noise in the background which for me added next to nothing.

I've watched the movie five times, and the audience always seems to love the big finale - sorry it doesn't work for you.

With regards to the superhero genre, my favourite finales are
Spider-Man (2001)
Doctor Strange
Infinity War
Endgame

For me, these movies end on a high. There are superhero movies I like way more but I think they peak before the end. Examples;
Spider-Man 2
TDK
Black Panther
Iron Man

I'm just talking about my personal preference. If people love the ending then more power to you. I know that I enjoy movies that other people hate so it's all good.

I kind of understand what you mean about the finale but I still liked it. I definitely felt like the ‘origin’ part of the story wasn’t honoured enough. As in, there’s something so cool about Spider-Man/ASM1 where you get to see the bite and then the changes take effect. In Shang-Chi I literally looked away at the screen for one second and then looked back and he was riding a mythical creature. It felt kind of random, I think the point was that he remembered more of his mother’s training than his father’s but it wasn’t as much of a satisfying payoff. Maybe it’ll make more sense when I watch it again without knobheads around me distracting me from the experience lol.

That being said, I didn’t mind the finale overall because
[Show spoiler]it wouldn’t have been a good character choice for him to kill his dad. It made sense he had to finally bite off more than he could chew and his mini redemption was passing his powers onto his son despite their differences.
I just wish the final actual fight with the main threat would have been a bit longer.

I think it's what makes it such a powerful ending - they're not just fighting over principles or something abstract - they're dealing with the most dangerous threat the Earth has faced since defeating Thanos... obviously it has to be something gigantic....

That was why I found the finale missing just a little something… it was over so quickly that it almost made the character seem overpowered. A threat as big as that deserved a slightly longer fight with a more satisfying conclusion. I didn’t hate it, I just thought it could easily have been 5-10 minutes longer.

A perfect 3D fit, according to the "Cinemablend" review:

I hope there will be a 3D disc!

Have you watched it in 4DX?

Yeah I watched it in 4DX. It’s an interesting movie for 4DX because there’s a lot more quiet/talking scenes than you might expect so it doesn’t have that much to do, but it’s crazy during the finale. I think some of the strongest movements I’ve felt from a 4DX movie, I nearly flew out my chair at one point!

Oh, absolutely!! It's crazy! And all the wind and mist effects when they're
[Show spoiler]riding the Great Protector and fighting the Dweller-in-Darkness!
