The SOTL 4k uhd's stereo track is a weak downmix. It's not the more robust og 2.0 stereo audio as found on the Criterion blu ray.

The SOTL 4k disc has tempers flaring up all over camp. And like MacReady (and Geoff) said....I hope Kino doesn't have any more surprises for us, because I don't think we're in much shape to do anything about it at this point.....We're just gonna have to wait here for a little while, see what happens....with the Body Snatchers 4k audio....

I don't have iTunes 4k versions of these films but it sounds like it might be a good idea to start looking through the iTunes 4k transfers to identify issues in advance because these Kino discs seem to be high bitrate versions of those same iTunes 4k transfers. SOTL iTunes 4K apparently had all the problems of the Kino disc for a long time now, but folks who get these films on iTunes aren't as picky so no one complained.

The audio should hopefully be fine for this upcoming Body Snatchers release since the audio tracks for Kino's Misery release are the same as the SF release AFAIK. I'm thinking Criterion wouldn't allow Kino to use their original 2.0 stereo track assuming Kino even tried to get it in the first place. I'm still concerned about this upcoming release though since I hastily traded in my SF release in favor of this upcoming Kino release.

The audio isn't the only thing we have to be concerned about either...

Never trade away your existing edition until the new version has been evaluated. I realize the temptation to sell it on and strike while the iron's hot -- so to speak-- but it's just such a gamble in today's market. You could be left scrambling at the last minute to secure a copy of the "old" version (see Paramount's To Catch A Thief for example).

Yeah I kind of did it without realizing it. I had it in a stack of ready to trade titles and forgot to take it out before trading in the stack.

The 2.0 audio is not "Criterion's," it's MGM's. Criterion doesn't own it and they didn't prepare it. Now, if MGM managed it to be exclusive that's the only way it'd make sense. These mixdown jobs aren't standard nor even as advertised.

I definitely did that with To Catch a Thief. Lol.

Luckily the previous edition had been in print for nearly a decade and was super easy (and cheap) to get ahold of.

God that new Paramount disc is a total disaster. What a travesty.

How is it "Criterion's 2.0" track? All of the materials, all the elements, are owned by MGM. More likely Kino never tried to license it but who knows.

Kino requested 5.1 and 2.0 tracks from MGM. They got given a 2.0 downmix and were apparently none the wiser. But it's something that seems to be happening an awful lot lately.

The Criterion Collection version of “The Silence of the Lambs” is excellent in every aspect. I never had any interest in upgrading it to the 4K release from Kino. The same goes for “Invasion of the Body Snatchers”. I’m very content with my Arrow and Shout! Factory releases.

never quite understood this sort of posting (no offence vikinghead2000)
if your only input is saying you won't be buying it, will you be posting this on all the threads going currently that you won't be buying?
Not sure what it adds to the discussion really? but thanks

They need people to pay attention to them. How can they let others know they don't care about something unless they tell people how much they don't care?

Yeah, some just feel the need to comment no matter what. I don't see the point in someone telling us they "have no interest" in 4k body snatchers when it's not even out yet. How do they even judge that?

I expect there to be a noticeable upgrade with Kino’s UHD of Invasion. It’s a new 4K scan from the OCN, whereas the SF edition was a 2K scan from an IP. It should look quite a bit better in 4K.

Well, you can like (or not like) a movie that is not out yet because it may or may not be your cup of tea. Though, I agree; why bother to come into a discussion and say you 'have no interest' and leave?

I feel like it's the way the internet has increasingly catered to each user. Here in 2021 all the negative Nancy's think their "I'm not buying it" post will scare the manufacturer in to changing whatever little nerdy nit-pick they have about the release. Too many people have a "voice".

I thought Shout did a great job with that remaster but this should blow that release out of the water, needless to say. I'd forgotten that the Shout edition was from an IP.

Yeah honestly the SF blu-ray was (surprisingly) very nice. I remember liking it a lot and was pretty satisfied with it.

But a 4K scan from the OCN? Hell yes.

This movie has always freaked me out because the way Brooke Adams says "Matthew!"
[Show spoiler]after she becomes a pod person
is exactly the way my mom says my name when she's pissed at me. Haha.
