I purchased this remastered blu-ray of Star Trek: The Motion Picture a few days ago with some birthday money and I thought it was a remastered edition of the Director's Cut, but it seems that it isn't. The Director's Cut is my preferred version of this movie and I was hoping to upgrade my 2 disc DVD copy of the Director's Cut on blu-ray. I'll hold onto it just to say that I own both versions, I just don't understand how they can re-release The Wrath of Khan with both cuts but not this one. Also, does anyone know if The Final Frontier and The Undiscovered Country will get new remasters like the first four?

Because The Director’s Edition isn’t done. And we don’t know about any of the other movies yet. We assume they will.

I totally misunderstood the thread, I thought it was talking about the remaster I bought as the Director's Cut, but after reading your post and several others, I see that it is being worked on. I'll definitely upgrade to 4k for the Director's Cut. In the meantime my 2 disc DVD will be fine. Now I can say I own both versions of the movie.

I have a question how much was going to be different story wise if shatner was allowed to do the new cut of Star Trek v he wanted to do would it just have been less bad?

He was just going to cut out some of the worst so-called comedy bits, add back in some more serious bits of dialogue and redo the special effects most significantly the Rockman ending. Which totally works for me cuz I like the movie and the only thing that I don't enjoy about the movie is the comedy bits and the poor special effects. Otherwise I think it's an enjoyable change-of-pace Star Trek movie that is not connected to some larger arc. And it really gets to the heart of the Big 3 characters in a way that none of the movies ever did to that extent.

That is sad Then because I think them search for god isn’t that bad of an idea. I think if he was allowed to do this it would have went from corny to ok not a great movie but not garbage just meh. I think from what I heard this movie gets too much hate. I think it wouldn’t be hated as much if what he wanted to do was allowed.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned here, or any other forum elsewhere, but one of the things I REEEAAALLY hope the restoration team have been able to digitally fix is Spock and McCoy magically changing away-team jackets during the final shot of TMP. If you look at the color of their armbands, they are "red" for Spock and "white" (or really light blue) for McCoy. But during the final wide pullout of the bridge crew, they've flip-flopped.

Ever since I first saw it, I cannot seem to ignore it.

Fun Fact. The text commentary pointed out that very error on the original Director's Edition DVD. Michael Okuda went so far as to set it up be pointing out the colors and what their colors mean and when the final shot on the bridge comes up, the text stated that Spock and McCoy have switched jackets!

Is the continuity error is still in, it would only be because the folks in charge wanted it to remain in. It seems like an easy fix to make since Spock and McCoy stand still in the shot. Definitely looking forward to see how that pans out.

I'm sure a fan will re-create the "special longer version" using the theatrical cut to have all three versions available in HD.

Frankly, I'd be curious if it'd be possible to trim down the flying through V'ger sequence that goes on for 25 minutes or so? That's the one area the pace just stops dead. Otherwise the movie is fine as it is in theatrical form, but that segment is where it comes to a crashing halt.

I would definitely interpret that post from the FB group that an announcement is imminent. People on the inside don't post hints like that without good reason.

I'd be interested in the time frame between announcement and release date. This isn't something like a new TV show on P+, this has already been known for months. They could conceivably say "Friday", but I would think that the time frame would be less than 4 weeks...maybe 2? A trailer, maybe some interviews and such, a few teases with changes, and then release.

A true pioneer. His effects work on 2001, BLADE RUNNER, and ST:TMP will never be surpassed.

I'm really hoping we get the superior DC to Undiscovered Country on remastered BD as well.
