When did I say that he cheated? I just said "drama." I also didn't state there weren't apologies, but rather it was lacking that need for forgiveness.
I just thought it would have been a good resolving moment, not that they couldn't set little HS drama aside. My point is that it was disconnected tissue from H2018. If you didn't see the movie you wouldn't know that anything had transpired. From a storytelling/character development perspective, I found that jarring. For something that happened literally moments after the events of the previous film, putting those moments in back-to-back fashion just has a little disjointedness is all. And I completely acknowledge that those events are inconsequential to everything that had transpired since and was to go on afterward. |

I just finished watching Halloween Kills about 5 minutes ago.
After watching Halloween 2018 a few days ago , and not liking it much. It had a lot wrong with it and was pretty darned boring all the way to the end. I loved this one. Loved it. I'm so glad Laurie was sidelined first of all. The flashback with the cops in myers house and Loomis , showing how Myers got caught, was fantastic . One issue I had with the first movie was i felt that myers should have gotten away becasue having him caught and in a prison for years made him too human ... well they way they did this scene showing him surrounded by cops out side his home was awesome. It was an awesome scene and with how good it was when the title came up and the music started, I was so ready for this. Thinking wow, maybe this wont suck. And it didnt. I loved that they brought back characters from the first movie . That was a great idea. I liked the new characters, a lot more than I liked Laurie and her family. I liked that they established that Myers is not after Laurie. The kills were amazing. I really enjoyed the amount of blood and gore , the atmosphere for this movie was a lot darker in tone. The scene where he gets out of the burning house .... awesome. The music in this movie was top notch. I loved the hospital scene. I loved how they showed how easily people can fall into a mob mentality . It was a great series of events. So much chaos and moving parts that all came together with a violent mob and an *innocent man jumping to his death rather than be torn apart by crazed people. I also loved how it ended. LOVED IT. I dont know about anyone else but I was rooting for michael. Its a horror movie, you want to see the bad guy do his thing and he delivered. I was blown away by how good this way , especially after how bad 2018 was, and watching a couple other stinkers the other day i expected this to be pretty bad as well. 10 out of 10 for me. I hope the next one ramps it up even more. |

I was very happy that Laurie and her family were sidelined for much of the movie as they arent very interesting. I was glad though that the grand daughter and her BF teamed up because i thought it was stupid that she was mad and ran off because he kissed the hot tiger girl , then got mad at her guy friend for hitting on her just to have her run off showing shes a strong woman who dont need no man..... I'm glad the movie establishes that micheal isnt after laurie. I also liked Lauries talk with the cop about how the more he kills the more he transcends. It feels to me like they are going towards the "thorn" type of storyline where micheal is possessed or whatever it was. The guy in the black hat and trench coat reminds me of the guy from part 6 with the thorn tattoo who controlled michael. The cinematography was top notch, the music was fantastic and you are right, there is a lot of plot in this movie, and done in a way where they can put in plot without having to slow down the film for needless exposition to beat us over the head with "THIS IS WHAT IS GOING ON NOW IN CASE YOU DIDNT GET IT" |

If I recall this movie was pushed back from release a few times and during the original screening it did not get favorable reviews. Thinking wow, maybe this wont suck. And it didnt. I loved that they brought back characters from the first movie . That was a great idea. I liked the new characters, a lot more than I liked Laurie and her family. I felt the one before this did some justice with Michael, this one sure the kills are cool but it does not feel like how Michael would kill but something Jason Voorhees would do. Even the 70s flashback at the beginning they screwed up by making him much more aggressive and stronger like even though its suppose to take place shortly after the end of the original 70's one, would not be surprised they bring in Thorn for the next one at this point.. The more he kills the stronger he gets. I loved how fast he attacked some people. They didnt mess up at all making him aggressive.
As much as i loved the original 2 movies and i even liked 4 ,5 and 6, and H20, I love this new take (minus the lame 2018 movie). I felt like this is how you do a modern take on a slasher icon . Michael definitely isnt a normal man and that was established really well in this one. |

I bolded the part of your post that highlights one of the biggest issues with this film (I didn't care for the last one much either): - In the original films (Halloween, II, 4, and even 5), you rooted for the protagonists. Dr. Loomis, Laurie and her friends, Lindsey, Tommy, the hospital staff, Jamie, Rachel - you were rooting for them to survive. And in all of them, the kills were on the tamer side (Halloween II and IV got a bit more graphic but they were PG material compared to what's in this film). - In the new films, they've turned this series into a Friday the 13th clone, which is ironic, considering Friday the 13th was created to cash in on the success of Halloween. You said it yourself - you were rooting for Michael Myers in this one - the polar opposite of the intended effect in the original films. Now the characters are annoying and you're just hoping Michael bumps them off. They've turned Michael into Jason Voorhees. And this film is a lot more graphic - on the level of the Rob Zombie remakes (which I do enjoy as they were a totally different take on the story so should be judged separately). This film is supposed to be directly connected to the first film and '18, but it feels nothing like the original, other than the flashback scenes. For all the heat Rob Zombie's versions took for the graphic violence, this film (and the previous one) is just as graphic. I just watched the original 1-5 this weekend, and I'll take those over this new trilogy, despite the faults those sequels have as well. At least they were fun to watch and had some good suspense. The scene with Jamie trapped in the chute in part 5 and the rooftop scene in part 4 tops anything in this film in terms of suspense imo. This film just didn't have any decent suspense. I didn't totally hate it but both of these films have been a disappointment to me. Last edited by mar3o; 11-01-2021 at 05:53 PM. |
