you misinterpreted what he is looking for... it sounds like he wants the steelbooks from Amazon Japan because they contain the 4k and 3D discs...

i'm actually surprised they still have 3D discs for new movies...

but when he misses out on the Amazon Japan steelbook, then he buys multiple editions which costs more money...

I held off on pre-ordering because BB only offers shipping. I reluctantly gave their shipping another chance last month, but after getting burned again this last experience, getting three damaged steelbooks last month in those flimsy bubble mailers (I never get boxes ), I decided against that here.

Hopefully, this comes back for In-Store Pickup pre-orders or stores get more than two copies on release day and it's not another Snyder Cut scenario. But this is Sony and the biggest film of the year, so I am staying optimistic that Sony had enough foresight to manufacture a decent amount of these. haha

It's a real shame that BB doesn't offer this option anymore like they used to and instead forces people to choose the unreliable shipping option for pre-orders.
I found that buying 2 for shipping increases the chances they get sent in a box, and you also get an extra option in case one of them has a slash or paint chip. You can then return or sell the extra.

I really suggest keeping an eye on this thread and on the Best Buy website. You can "save" the steelbook and keep an eye for when it's back in stock.

In my past experience, Best Buy doesn't really do In-Store pickup anymore the night of release like they used to, and in-store stock seems to go fast because they only get like 3 or so. But that may just be my locations in SoCal.

For this film, as big as it is, I wouldn't be surprised if it got a big printing, but I also don't think it will be a super huge release. I know Sony over-produced the first two steelbooks to the point they had them on like $10 clearance, but I don't see that happening with this one. Plus the original Tobey/Andrew steelbook collection goes for like $150 now, so I think there will be decent demand for this one since the film has so many things going for it at once (third in a line of MCU steelbooks, ties in to the Spider-Man 1-5 steelbook collection, Tom and Zendaya's fan bases, etc.). That last point seems silly but there's talk among the fan bases about this thing too which surprises me.

In the end I really do recommend buying 2 just in case. Like I said, it's a good idea anyway to prevent the chance of getting one that is damaged at the factory level or at the shipping level.

This is available for pre-order again by the way. Like I said, I recommend ordering 2 copies so that there's a better chance of getting these shipped in a box and having a choice between two in case one is slashed or dented or chipped.

I always order 4 copies of any steelbook I want and keep the best looking copy.

Usually 2 of them are flawed.

My normal practice for a Steelbook I want is to order two as well. It's still been hit and miss with me. I've got some where they still crammed them in a bubble mailer and even the one with boxes have like one pocket of bubble.

I say this in all seriousness - I think you need some mental health help. If you need a number/resources, I can help you.

I think y'all are blowing the original user's post WAY out of proportion...

There's a difference between passion and insanity, and I think we all toe that line at some point or another with this hobby.

In fact, for Spider-Man I missed the Best Buy Steelbook as well and had to order the matching SB from JB Hi-Fi in Australia and the the alternative SB from Amazon UK.

Best Buy, Amazon JP and Zavvi are not posting pre-order or release dates on their websites. Both say “No Release Date” and that the Pre-Order is coming soon but both sites ALSO show they are Sold Out.

Where are you finding exactly which day the pre sale starts for these films (ESPECIALLY THE AMAZON JP 4K+3D Steelbooks). I church these websites 3 times per day starting the day they are released in theaters in the US.

Now I have extra naked Amaray cases which I refuse to display on ANY shelf and an extra 4K disc I do not need.

Please let me know because the past three releases have cost me @ $80 USD (JP) + $40 USD (Best Buy) which is more than I’ve paid for any Premium Steelbook. It basically means forgoing doctor visits, medication and food ever since Shang-Chi.

I can’t afford the scalper prices on eBay. Are they selling our faster than they used to bc people purchasing multiple copies to turn around and double the price? How do I find when a particular packaging of a movie will go on-sale in a particular country (JP and the US, specifically).

I’ve been collecting for a long time but have only recently had problems.

Many Thanks,

I get the frustration- I've missed the pre-order for a few steelbooks I've really wanted through the years. As far as I know, there's really no way to know when something is going to go up for pre-order. Most of us find out the same way you do- by checking. As others have said, subscribe to the threads once they're made. Whenever one goes up for pre-order, there's always someone who posts to let everyone know. 9 times out of 10, this is how I find out; the other time if just by checking Best Buy's website. But if you do miss the pre-order, don't panic. It always comes back into stock the day of release, usually some time around 2-3 am (kind of sucks to have to stay up that late, I get it, but it's all for the love of the medium, right?) This has been the only way to pre-order/order for in-store pickup lately, which it sounds like you may not be able to do, but if all else fails, maybe someone you know can help pick it up for you!

Even if all this fails and it sells out, Best Buy almost always restocks their steels a little down the line. Keep an eye on the threads in the forum and product page on the website. Trust me, I'm the LEAST patient person around, but patience really does pay off when it comes to steels sometimes. I'm sorry I can't be of more help than that, but know you're not alone in your frustration!

Sorry for the people giving you a hard time, and I'm sorry for the predicament you're in. I have a few friends and family members on disability, and it really is about finding the enjoyment in little things! Wishing you luck in your search and with your pains.

Look, I understand being mad at spine slashes or needing a mint cardboard slip. But statements like, "It basically means forgoing doctor visits, medication and food ever since Shang-Chi." and "My only motivation to to endure this endless suffering is and to keep living this isolated, lonely life is to lose myself in a really great movies as a distraction." are alarming if not said in jest (and looking at the rest of his post, it's probably serious).

Either I really am more burnt out than I think from work, or I'm just dumb, but I honestly didn't even catch all that in the initial post. You might be right...

I pre-ordered from Best Buy on Dec 28th. Back then they had the release date as : "March 1st, 2022." But then switched it to "Coming Soon" and "Release Date not announced"

I'm just guessing, but since the movie was delayed for over a year (?), I think they have all the physical media produced and ready to go. So, they could drop them as soon as possible. Fingers crossed! March 1st release date !

The movie wasn’t delayed “over a year” they only shot most of the film in 2021 and were still working on vfx right up until the release date in December (https://twitter.com/colliderfrosty/s...527641603?s=21), it wasn’t just sitting on some hard drive somewhere. It was originally announced for July 2021 but changed and kept its December 2021 date before they even started filming.

I really hope this releases soon, but I don’t think this will see a digital or physical release until the movie launches in China.

Otherwise, like a previous poster said...I check Amazon Japan daily ( usually 2-3 times a day )

It took a long time for their Eternals 4K+3D steelbook preorder to go up.

I'm still waiting for Spiderman : No Way Home, although I'm not certain Amazon Japan will even get a 4K+3D steelbook, since Sony was involved.
There won't be a 3D/4K because Sony mistakingly aren't releasing the 3D on bluray. Too bad because there are alot of 3D fans still that would spend alot of money on a 3D copy.

I was simply asking for help staying on top of MARVEL Steelbook releases which is simply a habit I greatly enjoy, bc I cannot to pay twice or triple the price on eBay afterward. And I have missed every 3D/4K Steelbook from Japan since they have become the ONLY place to purchase them. I would hardly call that an unhealthy obsession nor is wanting to MSRP.

I truly hope you stay in good health This issue is apparently trivial to but when you lose almost everything little things keep you going.

Thanks for the helpful posts and advice everyone! Very helpful! I think I miss some of the posts bc my inbox is so flooded by spam they get buried. If anyone figures out the rules behind the Japanese 4K/3D releases please let know!

I already pre-ordered the SB from Oz but it will be the only Marvel 4K SB not from Best Buy or Zavvi which doesn’t really matter much.

Have a GREAT New Year!!!
