Yup. I hope so too. I am a little nervous, though, that Paramount might not do that. Simply because it appears, as other posters have said, that WWC is being considered as a bonus disc, or even a "free" disc, based on the MSRP. Although I haven't seen Paramount actually state this, the MSRP, and the fact that in their numbering system, Paramount Presents has given the package only one number (#35) rather than two numbers (for two films).

But, on the other hand, since they are calling these "the two most iconic sci-fi epics" at least from the 1950's, may suggest they have cleaned-up WWC a bit to make for a greater package. Though, as many others have said, I'm wondering why both films are not going to be 4K UHD discs, as looking at the mock-up art presentation, to me, suggests both films are getting equal billing.

You need both, a 4K tv AND a 4K player. I don’t plan to upgrade to a 4K system, but I do have a 4K tv. I purchase 4K movies on Vudu and Movies Anywhere, when they’re on sale, to utilize my tv. However, my physical library is majority blu-ray, with a few 4K sets, just for the upgraded blurays (if remastered from a 4K source).

I was referring mainly to Criterion, since somebody else mentioned it earlier in the thread. If WB doesn't want to release it, they could certainly license it out to somebody else, with Criterion making the most sense.

Really looking forward to this , I all ready pre-ordered but hoping it does come down a little in price . I'm sure this is just a MSRP Amazon always starts off with . Now if both movies were in UHD 4k then wouldn't even worry about it .

Honestly, the packaging annoys me. I don't love that they give the entire interior artwork to When Worlds Collide, when it's supposedly an "extra" and isn't even in 4k. I'd rather this release focused entirely on War of the Worlds. It's an odd release with the mixed formats. And nothing is free. That blu-ray disc has been factored into their pricing, regardless of what previous releases cost for just a 4k disc. Studios aren't in the habit of giving us free movies and discs. I'd rather that 2nd disc be a blu-ray of War of the Worlds, with the new master, since I don't own that on blu-ray. Then I'd have it on both formats for convenience. Instead I'd have it only on UHD but then have another disc with a movie I'm not interested in, especially if it's not a new restoration, with half the packaging giving focus to that film.

I'm not sure it's unusual to have mixed format releases. There have been many bluray/dvd combo releases. Kino's recent 4K "In the heat of the Night" included the two sequels on blu-ray.

Quite so. They can still take my money.

I agree on all counts. I love both movies, but WWC has an arguably more complex and interesting plot and definitely a larger group of characters. And yes, I loved the ending except for one small detail (that I can mention without really spoiling anything): the infamous matte painting at the very end, which admittedly looks exactly like . . . a matte painting. Other than that, I found the effects to be very respectable for their era.

The bottom line, though, is that I'm thrilled to get both these, especially with WOTW being 4K. Ironically, I purchased the HD version of WWC on Amazon's streaming video service just a couple of months ago because after waiting for it for years I had pretty much given up hope of it appearing on Blu-Ray.

I ordered the Star Trek directors Edition in 4k which has dropped down to $24.97 at Bull Moose. So I killed two birds with one stone by finding the lowest current price for both of these products.

You may be interested in knowing that you can always just add a gift card to your order, and then you'll qualify for free shipping.

In your case (with a $31.97 title), a $4 gift card would do. You could use it next time you place an order. Of course, you already placed your order, but you could always cancel and reorder if you aren't sure you want to buy Star Trek.

I want to elaborate my defense of the picture quality of WWC (having just re-watched it yet again) vs those saying it as a mere crappy non 4k. When you watch the Imprint version it is immediately apparent you are viewing a 4K master. Details are outstanding down to facial wrinkles hair strands film grain and fabrics. Colors pop. Stability is great. The weaknesses are in the print with some dots and one or two matte backgrounds could be better. No processing like EE or DNR. What you see is a beautiful organic presentation with a few age related flaws. I have no complaints beyond what I wrote.

I always get nervous to upgrade an old movie to 4k, it doesn't always feel it was worth it. Anyone have an anticipation that this would be worth an upgrade from the latest blu-ray?

Obviously they already upgraded the sound to 5.1 they're not going to do an Atmos track. And the Blu-ray from Criterion looks stunning. This one will have Dolby Vision presumably and the picture Maybe somewhat better. It's a hard call for me but the inclusion of the other movie makes the deal in my case. Also it's $31.97 at Bull Moose if you're looking for the best deal as of now

Two chances. No chance and uh, Bob chance. Although it could get a Zavvi exclusive like that bloke who shot Liberty whatshisface. Assuming Paramount has it over here.

I forgot that was a Zavvi Exclusive there. I definitely could see that happenng again here. I also could see them just releasing War of the Worlds, and dropping WWC.

War of the Worlds (1953) and When Worlds Collide (1951) are apparently being released on 4K directly by Paramount on September 27th!

I just bought the Criterion Blu-ray of War of the Worlds, but I am getting this, in no small part because the Criterion Blu-ray release does not have subtitles! Not even on the main feature!

Oy! September is going to be one for the books with all the pre-orders I've made for the month.

That's false, the Criterion release definitely has subtitles
