The old ones haven't gone anywhere, folks...Geez

I'm glad I grew up when I did, with the movies and TV shows I did, but, no one took them away. Can still watch and enjoy every one of 'em whenever I want. My wife & I watched Airplane! with my parents this past Christmas and laughed the entire time, same as we did when I first saw it.

I guess I just don't see the point of throwing that much vitriol & heat at a 30-second spot or a movie I had absolutely nothing to do with and that wasn't made by anyone I personally know. It's only entertainment.

I want people to see this because I'm a fan of comedy movies and I want more comedies, period. If more people throw more $$ at comedies, it means a wider swathe of creatives will get a chance, and maybe someone eventually makes a comedy that might actually have a chance to be an all-time classic.

I love how we're already in the "If you think it looks good, you're fine. If you think it looks bad "HAVE YOU SEEN IT?!?!?!?!?!" phase.

I'm still going to see it, the OJ joke was funny, the rest looked bad, but it was also short. I don't understand why if someone thinks something looks bad, they immediately get crap from everyone. But when someone think it looks good, their opinion somehow magically matters.

It's the "happy clown" syndrome, people that like everything and get excited for everything without questioning.

Usually people that watched more movies in their lives smell the bad stuff miles away and if they criticize it they get shit around here.

I get your point about the need for balance & objectivity, but, I think you may be missing the point a bit there. It's not a town hall meeting where we're seeing people passionately debating something like taxation or healthcare. It's a freaking movie.

I get that movies mean the world to people and that we cherish the ones we love, but, these impassioned rants about how the comedy gods are somehow being defiled by this film are a bit overblown.

How many times does someone need to say it looks bad before they can be criticized? It's the same thing as the MCU stuff. Say it and then move the **** on. If you're not going to watch it, what is there to discuss?!

So how many times is acceptable for people criticizing the movie over people saying good things? Why just people that love the movie don't say they like it and move on without marginalizing anyone who gave their free and individual opinion.

Nobody here is talking as a group. Its a forum ffs.

I get that, reboots/reiterations of classics are always going to be held dear. They didn't really show a lot, which is actually a good thing. Too many comedies ruined by showing all the funny parts in the trailer. I just hate seeing one sided discourse.

I critisized the teaser (and gave it a compliment or two) and still intend to see it. While some may not, one can be critical and still see it to see for themselves.

And once again, it goes both ways. If someone can obsessively gush about a movie, it should be allowed to go in the opposite direction.

It is a forum... With dozens and dozens of threads. There's nothing you can say that will convince me it's appropriate to keep posting in a thread for a movie you've already decided sucks. I do not post in threads like that. If I don't like it I'll say so but then no more.

The front page article comment section was the usual trainwreck of edgelord commenters that will downvote anything remotely positive.

Sometimes I really hate this site.

Fair enough, that's your conduct and i'm sure you can swear on that we will never find several posts from you in a thread of a movie you said you didn't like the first time.

this is not a knock on the teaser trailer at all but these posts got more of a laugh out of me than the teaser did, thanks guys!

The OJ thing was a mildly amusing way of them addressing the elephant in the room. No biggie.

Count me among those who would love to see more - and better - comedies in the theater.

For those who think the trailer looks stupid, the original films are all about dumb comedy and spoofs, where the hero is clueless but plays everything seriously to funny results.

The gag where Liam Neeson enters the bank in disguise and peels off his mask is a spoof on Mission Impossible, where Ethan (Cruise) pulls off his mask after amazingly being able to look and talk like anyone he wants.

The Abrams Zucker films could be great. If they didn't keep the rights to the films/franchise, then it's just passing the torch to a new team of writers/actors/filmmakers, on the topic of an original writer feeling ignored perhaps.

Good points! If anything, this will bring more attention to the original classics anytime a new reboot of a classic movie happens. Plus this is Frank Drebin Jr., so it's technically a sequel.

If someone doesn't like the trailer, that's fine, they have that right to not like it. I guess when some say that anyone who likes the trailer is wrong, is probably what inspires conflict with that point of view. Comedy and humor often being subjective.

Sure - but as we know its a tough genre these days. We all know how many of the classics we love would get made today: Zero. Not a one. The internet would break. .

But, ya never know. I always found the best ones to have somewhat of an actual story or relatable situation. Like Vacation as an example. We've all been there so we get it. But it isnt just slap-stick nonsense, poopy jokes, or other dumb shit. It actually tries and it works. I hope the genre rebounds but this remake doesnt look like its going to spearhead the comeback.
