My list:
First Contact Generations Nemesis Insurrection Generations always gets a bit higher in my list because it has Kirk. I watched TMP and WOK last week before seeing SFS at the Cinema over the weekend for its 40th. Man these films were good, the audience laughed and cheered and clapped at the end when SFS finished on Saturday. I watched TVH tonight at home and man I miss these guys. This was peak Star Trek before whatever it is now, they don't make them like this anymore. I have the 4ks, the remastered soundtracks but man I feel like I want more, I want something else by the original crew to buy. It is truly shocking they couldn't get Shatner in new Star Trek in some form. It's been 15 years since 2009, I can't believe they couldn't honor is fantastic contribution to Star Trek with some sort of send off that doesn't involve bridge on the Captain. They go on and on about Roddenberry but I god, Shatner, Nimoy and Kelley made Star Trek last forever, I salute my childhood heroes, you still got it guys, 40 years later and you still make me believe. |

I've soured on First Contact over the years, it's too much of a popcorn action film, has more in common with Battlestar Galactica than Star Trek. Generations is a trainwreck in parts, but damn if McDowell and Shatner don't make it worthwhile, everytime. Insurrection is clearly the best film they made imo, it just feels a bit spotty on editing, the miniature work for the ships is sublime. Nemesis stunk up the entire franchise when it came out, and my opinion on it is still the same: it sucks. It is the Crystal Skull of this franchise, another film I don't have any reason to own.
So Insurrection Generations First Contact . . . . Nemesis (Hai GeoffD) |

This is mine as well. First Contact is definitely the best of the bunch. I always enjoy Insurrection despite its cheese — it's a nice break from its darker brethren.
Generations is flawed and I greatly dislike the third act, but I do enjoy seeing the TNG aesthetic with big screen flair (and I love the lighting on this movie), as the look definitely changed with FC on. And I think I actually like Nemesis less and less every time I watch it, as opposed to the others. |

I have always felt that there are so many things wrong with Nemesis, such as coverung Ron Perlmanʼs face with prosthetics and not giving him enough screen time, and giving too much screen time to Tom Hardy. The villains and their defeat turn out to have weak payoff, so I always felt that narratively it was a weak film. There were too many ideas (cooks in the kitchen) with the project, with too many people wanting to add their ideas.
Narratively, I like Insurrection a lot. It didnʼt convey the message of insurrection well, though. It more so conveyed the concept that plastic surgery is bad. |

Though most people wouldn't think it from watching the final product, Nemesis was supposed to be setting up the next Star Trek film - whatever that was going to be - and much of the approved script had been cut by the Director (Stuart Baird) while shooting and much of what was shot for character development/drama/setup was also cut in the editing bay, so the final film is very different from what the TNG cast had signed on for and wanted to make, which is why it's pretty much been disowned by them. At this point, the only thing that could possibly redeem the film in everyone's eyes is a full re-cut by Frakes and I doubt that would ever happen.

Most of the issues with NEMESIS would be solved for me if they’d just got Crosby back to play Sela and she’d been the villain instead of Chinzon.

The only thing about Nemesis I'll claim is how they got Wil Weetabix in for a cameo only to cut him from the finished film. Intentional or not pretty funny to me with all the claims that most everyone involved in Star Trek thinks he's a bellend

I still can't believe they didn't get Q in the TNG films, I know we have mentioned that all good things would have been good as a film but imagine if Q turned up after First Contact? Jean Luc did you think your meddling with time would go unnoticed by the Q, I warned you about time travel last time we met when I showed you that pile of goo that was to become the human race. Did you think now that you restored the timeline from the Borg that everything is exactly back as it should? Take another look, let's see how you solve this little conndundrum... |

Star Trek IX: Insurrection official name is Star Trek: Insurrection, however some Star Trek fans like calling the movie Star Trek IX: Insurrection so that the average person will know this is movie number nine in the Star Trek movie series. Star Trek IX: Insurrection is another family friendly movie that received an official PG rating from the MPA for “SCI-FI action violence, mild language and sensuality”. This 1998 movie was released on the 4K Blu-ray format on 4-4-2023. According to Wikipedia Star Trek: Insurrection had a budget of $70 million dollars and box office sells of $117.8 million dollars. However, according to the IMDb website Star Trek: Insurrection has an estimated budget of $58 million dollars and box office sells of over $112 million dollars. Regardless of which website is correct Star Trek: Insurrection was another popular movie among Star Trek fans but less popular compared to some prior Star Trek movies. I was very busy with my career back in 1998 and never got a chance to see this movie. Just recently at the end of March 2025 I finally for the first time in my life had the opportunity to see this movie. I thought the movie was very good and I liked the fictional story. It was cool seeing Data underwater walking around (kind of reminds me of the Highlander movie even though that movie has nothing to do with Star Trek). In the event of a water landing Data also becomes a inflatable raft like in one of the deleted scenes in the bonus features.
*** The following information below contains spoilers, so do not read below unless one has seen the movie first *** It was neat to see that the Baku people who are technological advanced people with warp technology, decide to live a simple life on a planet that has a special type of rings surrounding the planet. The naturally occurring rings that output healthy radiation regenerate the human cells. People of all ages including very old people when arriving to the planet over time become young and healthy adults that have a much longer lifespan lasting several hundreds of years and the potential to perhaps live forever if one does not fall off a mountain or other major disaster that causes death. The planets rings keep people healthy from aging and diseases. Diseases end up going away on this planet when people arrive. Geordi La Forge on his short time on the planet can now see perfectly fine since his eyes are naturally regenerating because of the special rings surrounding the planet. Some evil people in the Federation decide not to follow the prime directive and instead try and steal the particles in the planets rings and to relocate the 600 Baku people on the planet by force. Stealing the healthy regenerative particles from the planets rings and marketing it and reselling it as a fountain of youth pill is what the theoretical computer model predicts might be possible (but it comes at the cost of destroying the planets rings and there is no guarantee that the process will work to bottle the fountain of youth). Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise try and protect the Baku people from being forcefully relocated and the planets resources stolen. Also, Commander William Riker and his team are trying to get a communication signal to the executives of Starfleet command to try and get them to help defend the prime directive and protect the Baku people from a Federation Admiral and other world powers that want to steal the planets resources. A total of 57.2GB of space is used out of 66GB on the dual layer BD-66 4K Blu-ray disc. A total of 45.6GB of space is used out of 50GB on the dual layer 2K Blu-ray disc. Both the audio commentary track and text commentary track on the 4K Blu-ray disc can be toggled on at the exact same time to input two streams of data at once. 4K Blu-ray disc is native 4K with Dolby Vision HDR. Since a BD-100 disc was not used a disc swap is required. After one watches the bonus features on the BD-66 disc, in order to see the many additional hours of bonus features the BD-50 2K Blu-ray disc needs to be inserted. For many Star Trek movies, I have enjoyed accessing the “Library computer” on the Blu-ray disc and reading the entire index that contains a lot of useful information. The bonus features on the 2K Blu-ray disc are MPEG-4/AVC 1080P for some bonus features and MPEG-2 480i for other bonus features. The lossless 7.1 Dolby TrueHD master audio becomes 7.1 LPCM studio master audio once the A/V receiver or Blu-ray player unzips the lossless audio file. Overall, the lossless 7.1 soundtrack sounded good on my 7.1 surround sound system. However, because of limitations of my display the native 4K Blu-ray disc was downscaled to 2K SDR quality. I experienced perfect flawless playback while watching the BD-66 4K Blu-ray disc including several reverse scans with no player or disc glitches. Star Trek IX: Insurrection was another enjoyable movie and a real treat since this was a brand new movie for me since I have never seen it before. https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Star-...lu-ray/331121/ Last edited by HDTV1080P; 03-29-2025 at 11:17 AM. |
