I'm late on those questions but:

[Show spoiler]I agree he walks past somebody on fire at the start but he realizes it's just a hallucination and stays focused on what he came to do. He seems massively stressed out, partly from what he's about to do, but also the demon has been driving him mad the past few days.

I agree the first encounter with the medical person was real, but the second encounter did not happen. That whole final day I think did not even happen as she experienced it as she was probably never even in the hospital.

I really enjoyed this movie, but the one quibble I have is that it plays loose with reality vs. hallucination in some inconsistent ways. At some point the internal logic didn't hold and it was clear the movie couldn't continue work if it made the distinctions clear to the audience.

Yes that also bothered me a little.
[Show spoiler]In the first Smile there are only a few scenes that are faked on the last day, Rose going to kill her patient, and Rose leaving the house thinking she's won. But in Smile 2 it seems the entire last day is completely in her mind and we have no idea what she actually did that day, maybe just went through the motions of getting ready for the show like a checked out zombie I guess.

Even if there are noted differences, they are two different minds. I suppose they can just be attacked differently.

[Show spoiler]But man, Rose was a walking nightmare for most of her possession. She experienced non-existent phone calls, psychiatric home visits, and first-degree murders. She was on her lonesome for an evening having a conversation with her deceased mother, and battled the demon head-on for a hot moment or two. Then she thought she drove back to her current town of residence and visited her ex in a request to stay overnight. Outside of driving to the hospital parking lot, that entire day was one massive cluster**** of things happening that didn't really.

We also get the episodes that you don't see. Much like Skye trashing her own dressing room, Rose killed her cat and wrapped it as a gift for her nephew.

She sounded just like... how did the officer put it? "A whole box of Froot Loops"?

I wonder if we are going to see a lot more blu-ray exclusion in the future, in terms of individual blu releases. I noticed today that this and Transformers One only have 4K and DVD releases (with a blu packed in with the 4K)

It's unfortunate, but makes sense. Blu-rays are kind of stuck in the middle of the hardcore collectors who buy 4Ks and the average Joes who are fine with DVD.

This was my biggest problem with the movie. It seemed as if it was breaking its own rules and lacked its own internal consistency.
[Show spoiler]Nothing Skye did mattered during the last act, because you didn't know if anything was real or not. At least the main character in 1 had somewhat of a fighting chance, the sequel's main character was doomed from the get go and made it all pointless.

I think some of this could be explained by the
[Show spoiler]type of person Skye is. She pretty much killed her boyfriend, and escaped all consequences of it. She and Rose are not the same, character-wise. Maybe someone like that experiences more control by the entitiy.

Now, my question is this:
[Show spoiler]Is *EVERYONE* at the concert now infected by the entity? Is that possible?

That is my interpretation. It reminded me of the
[Show spoiler]possible outcome mentioned in John Carpenter's The Thing - the entire human race infected within 78 hours (or whatever the timespan was).

I was largely bored by this overlong barrage of endless dream sequences and false scares, yet here I am debating a $19.96 purchase only so that I'd have it next to the first movie on my shelf. Why do I do this?

[Show spoiler]The Smiler might also be able to just have his pick, it's still only 1 thing I think? But even if they all get a Smiler that doesn't mean it will grow exponentially, each person can still only infect those around when they suicide, but it will be impossible for it to stay under the radar anymore.

[Show spoiler]It also seems to only latch onto those who have had serious past traumas.

Also, Skye's mom and assistant look to have ran toward backstage or something and likely didn't see her off herself, so even if it hits multiple people, I think they're safe.

[Show spoiler]Well the trauma doesnt have to be from the past, the trauma occurs by seeing a horrific death.

Cant wait for a third movie

[Show spoiler]Obviously the Smiler entity gets off by gluing a witness to the moment that it victimizes somebody, but I believe that there is more to the tale as a whole in terms of being able to exploit that mind throughout the week. Every victim from before (whose story we got to know more about, or would understand at least) had some past traumatic event occur in their lives.

Our main characters, Rose and Skye, clearly had past traumatic events with the deaths of their mother and boyfriend, respectively. From the first film, we discover that Laura's grandfather died in front of her when she was a child, Laura's college professor (who bludgeoned himself in front of her) never got over his brother's death decades before, and as a cop you know that Joel had witnessed some horrific shit at some point while on duty.

In Smile 2, we can possibly also infer that Lewis Fregoli has had traumatic run-ins as a drug dealer, or at least while on drugs. If not, you get the last name Fregoli in reference to the delusion of the same name (mistakenly believing different people are the same person in disguise). The trauma in his life possibly led him to drugs to begin with. We also get to watch Skye on Lewis' television on The Drew Barrymore Show, almost as if the Smiler got to see who its next target should've been before it carried through.

Every time we've had the chance to see the Smiler inhabit somebody's mind, they latch onto its feeble psyche as what invited them in the first place. They've gone out of their way to very clearly establish/imply many of the victims having past traumatic events occur in their lives before they were targeted next. Surely, the moment itself is always a gruesome one... but that doesn't seem to be the catalyst, just a part of the process (perhaps the reason to keep them entranced).

I cannot wait for a third film as well. I can all but guarantee any target(s) we follow in that third film will have some haunted past, though.

And for this reason primarily, it almost feels like Smile 3, if it happens, would almost need to be a prequel.....

But the director already stated that he won't reveal the entity's true nature/backstory.

Nooooo it doesnt. I hate when you get a couple entries in and then they go and make the next one a prequel. No thanks.

I wouldn't mind a prequel but only once they complete whatever arc this is, assuming they want to continue it.

Smile 2 looks amazing on 4K UHD Blu-ray. The effectiveness of the presentation is evident during the interview closeups in an early scene.

This is another one that I saw twice in theaters when it was released, thanks to my AMC Stubs membership. I was still taken off guard by how great the 4K disc looks.

Naomi Scott should have been nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award. There is no way that an actress from a horror sequel would be in that queue, but she would have been nominated in a better world than this one.
