I'd say this is going to look good based off what I saw from the 4k restoration in theaters, there's a nice uptick compared to the previous bluray especially on close up shots of actors faces, but obviously VFX shots that were rendered in 2k look more poor considering uptick in resolution and the CG in the movie was bad at times. Certain shots look obviously upscaled as well, but most of the movie looked as good as the Minus One 4k.

Satomi Ishihara speaks English several times in the movie and her accent is so strong that subtitles would have been nice.

Probably the weakest part of Shin Godzilla is her character. She’s just not convincing at all, you can tell she barely speaks English, yet we’re expected to believe she’s American and even aiming to become President of the United States one day. It comes off as unintentionally funny, and in my theater people were actually giggling during her scenes.

That aside, though, this movie is easily one of my favorite entries in the franchise, in fact, it might be my favorite recent one, edging out both Godzilla 2014 and Godzilla Minus One. The rumors about a potential sequel have me really hopeful, haha.

so for clarity, what options do Canadians have?

i see a steel book via Amazon (presumably all retailers will offer this).

Gruv will ship, what i assume is, the film in a standard case.

And there is no way to get the Deluxe Collector's Edition up here (without some third party intervention anyways.

is that right?

There also looks a non-SteelBook release on Amazon but is currently unavailable. But other than that, you are correct.

I'm personally holding on hope for AllTheAnime/Anime Likited to have a release and import that (it's exactly what I did for their Minus One release).

Gruv also has the steelbook up for pre-order.

The deluxe edition sadly isn't available to ship here directly. Only option is a re-shipper.

ordered the steel from target. Sold my sealed 2k copy for like $80 several months ago. So looks like it worked out for me, hoping waiting for a 4K release.

Does GKIDs' version really have no Dolby Vision? Or should we know closer to release date? I know the French release did.

The Japanese release doesn’t have DV and by all accounts it looks like Toho is just slapping some subtitles on that release for the US market and calling it a day. Which is fine since that’s a great release already.

And as someone with both the French and Japanese 4K releases, the DV really made zero difference not sure why Spectrum bothered if only to sell units I guess. The HDR is already incredibly subtle to begin with. I’ll be really interested to see opinions on it when it streets.

What are the odds of that 4 disc set with the b&w version still being available for a while, like the Minus One set?

I'm currently unemployed and funds are tight right now.

They've reissued the Minus One set like 3 or 4 times now. I think as long as there is enough demand they'll keep it in stock for a while.
