I know this is a silly question but... Do you have rear speakers hooked up?

Well I know it's not in the official BatPig dictionary, but did you try the troubleshooting section of the Denon Manual?

I sent batpig a message and will see if he has any input. What a strange problem!?

EDIT

This is what batpig sent back:

The key to understanding surround modes is being able to understand the relationship between the INPUT SIGNAL and how you then map that signal to however many SPEAKERS you have. Pro Logic and DTS Neo are methods of turning 2-ch content into 5.1 speaker output. If you aren't receiving a 2-ch signal (e.g. you are watching a movie in DTS 5.1) then these will not appear as options because there is already native 5.1 content, no need to apply processing to convert to 5.1 channels.

For more info he should check out the audio section of my FAQ, I have an extensive writeup on surround modes:

http://batpigworld.com/fadq.html#audio

Cheers

So again I would say if you have all 5.1 or 7.1 speakers hooked up then play something 2 channel with your PS3, or if your cable box is hooked up then select a channel with 2 channel sound. Then the options should be there.

dase,
I guess that makes sense. Yes I am running a 7.1 speaker setup. I did the reset last night so I will have to run Audyssey again tonight and set everything back up. At least I am more familiar with the GUI now.
Thanks for everything and I will report back when I am set back up. I do know that before trying to install the firmware yesterday that thing was sounding great.

I just finished running audyssey and set everything back up. I do have Dolby PLII and DTS Neo:6 now when on a 2 CH input so the receiver is fine.
Thanks again for all your help dase.

On your remote without the lighted screen there is a button on the upper right hand corner that reads "zone select". As you press it the indicator to the left of it lights up in line with the zone you are running. Press it until the light under M (stands for main zone) lights up.

On the lighted screen remote there is a flashing "main" button. To the right of it lights up with the zone you are controlling. You can do the same thing here and just press it until "main" is indicated to the right of it. It will cycle through main, z2, z3, z4, and macro then repeat.

Also, you should read through this setup guide as it is very useful for familiarizing yourself with your new piece of equipment and will help you in understanding all the features .

Hey guys! I just picked up a Denon 590 today to replace my Yammy 463. Can anyone help me out with audio settings and the PS3? I set the PS3 to Bitstream but the display only shows DTS not DTS HD Master (when playing a DTS- HD Master audio disk obviously)

Not sure if you have a fat ps3 (old) or slim ps3 (new) but check this thread out : https://forum.blu-ray.com/audio-theo...audio-ps3.html
it will tell ya exactly what to set and how.

I'm going to exchange a pioneer 819 for a denon 590/1610 because of the pass-through during stand-by feature on the denons.

I have a panasonic plasma from '07 that is hdmi 1.2a. Does anyone know if the hdmi pass-through will work with older model HDTVs (non hdmi 1.3).

Any help would be great.

Just hooked my 1910 up yesterday and very happy with the results. Setup was relatively easy using Batpig's guide but I did have some difficulty assigning inputs Took about 30 min to figure out and, of course, the Denon manual was useless. Video and audio quality from PS3 and X-box is superb. One minor annoyance was the s-video hookup which, being reserved for an I-pod dock, I was not able to use for my D*sh box. I have yet to run Audyssey calibration as I'm waiting til my speakers break in and my sub (eD A2-300) arrives.

Get a dish box with HDMI output. Problem solved. Plus you'll get a better picture.

Speakers don't need to break in as there are no interfering parts.

Yeah, I am planing to upgrade to H-Def just haven't decided if I'll go with Charlie or Dave. It will depend on which one gives me the best deal

My Energy speaker's manual recommends a 100hr break-in and, you know, I can't go against anything in the manual. Anyhow, I'm waiting til I get my sub.

If your PS3 is a fat model the new formats will not show up. You will have to change your audio settings in the PS3 to LPCM instead of bitstream. Then you will be able to experience HD audio as the PS3 will decode it internally and send it to your AVR as LPCM. As for the muffled sound, did you run Audyssey? If so did you follow the setup guide?

Here is a link for the audyssey setup guide:

How about using a Logitech Harmony? Solves all those problems.
