please, anyone going to these sales, be conscientious of the employees. 30,000 are losing their jobs. im one of them and it will be a struggle. at least ill have blu ray to keep me occupied for a while.
I'm really sorry to hear that and if I was working beside you I'd lead the chants of "go f yourself" anytime someone decided to be rude or disrespectful.

I worked in the service industry for years and was lucky to have a boss for most of them that didn't believe the customer was always right. I remember one guy just being completely rude because he thought we had given them crappy service (truth was he was pissed off I asked him to not each chips at the table as we were a pub and served our own food - outside food and drink is against the health code). He was swearing and swearing at me until I finally told him "you have absolutely GOT to stop swearing at me right now"
He said "or what"
I said, "or I'm going to throw you through the f'ing window mate"
At that point my boss came back from the bank and quickly got up to speed and barred the guy from ever coming back, ha, ha.

Any, again, sorry about your job. I hope you're able to find something without much ado.

I remember when CC was the only decent game in town years ago... the only other options were Service Merchandise, Radio Shack, and McDuff (a Radio Shack Spin off located inside malls).

Too bad, but I do remember when BB hit the scene, the customer service was WAAAYYYYY better than CC from the get go...

Wow. This is really bad news.

And where do you go when a nation's economy shifts from manufacturing to service sector jobs and those service jobs disappear?

I almost hate to ask this, but - does this mean there will be sales/discounted prices on stuff I would buy? I.e., receivers, speakers, Blu-rays, etc?

The day you buy an extended service plan you loose money. They are a complete waste of money.

It is indeed bad news but we need to get back to manufacturing rather than just selling.

I am thinking that the liquidator will not be selling stuff for less than it can be bought on line even when you show them the on line price on your web-enabled communication device, but I might just head on over on Sunday to see if I can get a new Onkyo 806 for less than Amazon has it listed.

umm yes and no

they will discount but before they discount they will mark up everything to full MSRP so the discount sometime is higher than the regular everyday CC price

Hate to see that. I really liked having CC right across the street from BB.

This really sucks. I know that CC wasn't the best store but it's sad because all the people that are going to be out of work (some of my fellow members are those people, my prays go out to you and your families)
But I just cant believe this is all happening and to say we havent seen the worse is really scaring me.

Wow, this is unfortunate along with the other list of stores that are closing down. This will not help our recession when more people are unemployed.

On a brighter note for people hoping to get discounts, deals can be had from liquidators, just not initially. Items are typically discounted from the initial retail price unless the item is considered discontinued, then it will be discounted from the MSRP. I spoke the one of the liquidator reps while my local CC was closing down.

However, those discountinued items are usually the last ones left since it's so expensive that by the last 2-3 weeks when they begin the count down to 80% off, you can snag them at tremendous deals. I witnessed a person by a Song 46" XBR4 for only $1,250 and an Onkyo 805 for $200. It's some luck or you literally have to be there when it opens every morning to get in on these deals. I ended up with an LG BH200 open box for $95 + tax.

This is a really sad day. I bought my 42" TV from Circuit City as well as some cameras and camcorders. I had some good experiences with CC.

According to the article on CNN, Circuit City's website and call center will cease to operate after Jan. 18.

FYI.

My tv stand/dvd shelf is actually an old fixture from when Montgomery Ward went out of business. I sawed it in half...... mounted a shelf on top... and dvd shelves on the inside. It's inch thick MDF. Very sturdy stand for just the price of some paint and shelves.

Oh, no worries - In our case I received an offer to relocate to the DFW area for my old job (we had relocated to Richmond for her CC job offer and to give her a chance to advance her career). With the way things were going in CC, around September 2007 we made the decision to go with my offer in TX and take the chance that she could find a new marketing job - which she did.

But my point in all that is that with the two of us in our early 30's and with a 1 yr old at the time, we were very aware that expecting her job to be safe for the next 2-5 years was pretty naive.

As a college job, it make perfect sense though - in that situation I would have stick it out too. Unfortunately I'm sure that there were many people far more invested than my wife was (and older) who played ignorrant and didn't decide to take control of their situation - they are probably in very bad straits now.

Oh, my current payment is affordable, but the rates are so good that it'll drop about $200 a month - but large financial transations always make you look at those luxury buys a little differently - at least for a little while.

Once the liquidators officially take over the locations no more returns. I think they will be doing that right away to.
