Those are either the 9se mk3 or the 11 mk3 if they have a 8" woofer they are the 9's, they are about 10 to 12 years old but still a great speaker i had them for 10 years and just upgraded mine for the newer monitor series. I have pics in my gallery of them.

Funny I should be lurking in this thread.

On my lunch break, I stopped at a local high end audio shop. I'm looking for something more over my Polks. I have a budget of about $3000, and I have always heard great things about Paradigm.

So I had the sales guy turn on the Monitor 9s. They sounded great, but completely different over the Polks [obviously]. Then I ask him to turn on some B&Ws. Being a saxophone player and follower of jazz, it was love at first...sound!! Then came the Klipsch 82s. In the end, Im more than likely going to settle for the Monitor 11s. It was a perfect medium for all the music I listen to and for movies.

I'm going back for a more intensive listening session, but so far, I love what the Monitors have to offer for the price!

Thanks for the help! Actually, my woofers are 6.5 inch, which I believe makes these the 7se mk3. The bass is fantastic for smaller woofers. I'm impressed.

I'm not trying to bash the Monitors, because they're great speakers. But if you had that great reaction to the B&W's, why not shoot for them? If they're completely out of your budget, maybe buy a few at a time. It seems kind of silly to upgrade to new speakers if there's a set you like better.

...course, I have no idea what you were listening to, and B&W's can get really expensive. I loved the set of Martin Logans I listened to but definitely had to pass them up based on the price.

*edit* Wait, Monitor Audio or Paradigm Monitors? Either way, same thing still stands.

I'm talking about the Paradigm Monitor 11s and matching center.

Thing is, the B&Ws are way to warm for movies in my opinion. But for music, they were as good as they come in that price range for a natural, warm sound. All three speakers I mentioned are in my price range.

I just got the 11's about a month ago and I'm loving them. I upgraded from the Cinema 110 system and I have noticed a huge difference. I would definetely get the CC-390 centre if you have the room for it in your cabinet because it is a beast. The three go very well together though. Good luck in your purchase.

Really when it comes down to it, you will be more then fine just matching any {Paradigm center with the Paradigm mini Monitors.

The CC-390 is a great center.I would do it .It's a free country

You never know what may bring you down the road.
Like upgrading you front mini's to something bigger and making those mini's your rears or surrounds But you have to admit thats one nice center

Look at what came in the mail...

The center (CC-290) and surrounds (ADP 390's) should be here next week.

It's not much compared to some of the other systems, but I'm also on a college budget, so I'm doing the best I can to keep up with everyone!

Fall semester 09' - books or speakers -

Nice! I totally understand where you're coming from. I'm a college student myself and it's tough. Not to mention books are way expensive than the speakers lol. $150 for one book is insane.

Anyway, I like your speakers. I might get the Monitor 7's sometime in the future. I saw a pair at eBay for $500 shipping included. How much were yours?

$650.00 - worth every penny

I can only imagine what the 11's sound like.

But, like a lot of people on here say the difference between the 7's and 9's in minimal and if you have a powerful enough subwoofer you won't really be able to tell the difference.

Good Luck!

I have a few questions for Paradigm Monitor series owners. Are all the Paradigm Monitor speakers (except the Titan Monitor) rear ported. If so, how does this influence how far to place them from a rear wall? Does the manual say anything about this? What has your experience with this been? Thanks

Yes the manual does explain on how far to place from the wall, but in general i would always try to keep speakers at least 1 foot from any wall minimum.

Well I just picked up a pair of Studio 40's v4 in Rosenut to replace my Polk Monitor 50 surrounds. I was in the City and decided to go check out a local dealer and finally got a chance to demo the Sig series(S6's) and WOW did they sound nice!! I also got to hear B&W 803D's for the first time as well.. they are Amazing speakers!!!
Back on topic - I went in initially to go check out Studio 10's, 20's and ADP-590's since this place actually has them in store - not like they place by where I live you can only special order Studios. Right at the exit of the show room I saw the last pair-unopened boxes of Studio 40's on clearance for $999cdn - $40 more than what they were selling v5 Studio 10's!
It was an impulse buy but it was the last one! I didn't even listen to them which you could say is not a good idea but it is only for my surrounds and they are matched with the v5's so I pulled the trigger. I wish it was Black to match the rest of my setup and room but I don't think it'll bother me too much. Even though they were on clearance, they still said I can get a full refund if I change my mind within 30 days... I most likely will end o keeping them though.
