More details on the Season 2 blu-ray and dvd release. I would like to know why the DVD is apparently 53 minutes longer than the Blu-Ray. So what features are we not getting????

SONS OF ANARCHY
SEASON TWO

Gritty FX Original Drama Starring
Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal and Charlie Hunnam
Rides Onto Blu-ray And DVD August 31

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 26, 2010) - Money, power and blood reign supreme when "Sons Of Anarchy" Season Two roars onto Blu-ray Disc and DVD August 31 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. From the creative mind of Kurt Sutter ("The Shield"), the adrenalized drama centers on a notorious outlaw motorcycle club intent on protecting their sheltered small town against encroaching drug dealers, corporate developers, and overzealous law officers. The club is equally determined to protect their ruthless and illegally thriving arms business. Charlie Hunnam stars as Jackson 'Jax' Teller, a man whose love for the brotherhood is tested by his growing apprehension for its lawlessness. Katey Sagal stars as Gemma Teller Morrow, Jax's force-of-nature mother, who along with Ron Perlman as Clarence 'Clay' Morrow, Jax's stepfather and MC president, have their own darker vision for the club.

Drawing an average of 4.5 million viewers per week, "Sons Of Anarchy" saw a 72% increase in viewership from season one to season two. In the volatile second season, internal alliances are formed, relationships within SAMCRO are strained and the leader of a white separatist League of American Nations (LOAN) moves in to gain a foothold in the Northern California heroin trade. Undermining SAMCRO within the community, LOAN attempts to drive the club to self-destruction. With a strong supporting cast including Kim Coates ("Prison Break"), Tommy Flanagan (Smokin' Aces), Ryan Hurst ("Wanted"), Johnny Lewis ("The O.C."), William Lucking (The World's Fastest Indian), Theo Rossi (Cloverfield), Maggie Siff ("Mad Men"), Adam Arkin ("Life"), Ally Walker ("Profiler") and Henry Rollins (Wrong Turn 2: Dead End), the "Sons of Anarchy" second season provides a sinister look at SAMCRO's new businesses including murder, arms trafficking and a brief foray into porn production.

The "Sons of Anarchy" Season Two Blu-ray and DVD is complete with all 13 episodes as well as a gag reel, deleted scenes, featurettes that take viewers behind-the-scenes on this FX original series and more. Available everywhere on August 31, "Sons Of Anarchy" Season Two will be available as a three-disc Blu-ray $69.99 U.S. / $89.99 Canada SRP and a four-disc DVD $59.98 U.S. / $69.98 Canada SRP.

We all just gotta hope that all the hard work the cast and crew puts in to every episode is finally recognized with the statue!!! FX submitted "Balm" the 90 minute episode that included Gemma's stunning confession to Jax and Clay.

FX revs up 'Sons of Anarchy' for Emmy race
Quote:
FX is a savvy Emmy player. Back in 2002, it became the first basic-cable network to nab a top award when Michael Chiklis ("The Shield") won best drama series actor. Two years ago it became one of the first basic-cable channels to be nominated for best drama series (along with AMC for eventual winner "Mad Men") when "Damages" made the list. "Damages" repeated that feat last year (as did "Mad Men," which won again) while its star, Glenn Close, prevailed as best drama series actress at both derbies.

Now, watch out: FX is making a major push for more Emmy glory. Not only did it just ship a handsome package of three DVDs to TV academy members, but it published a glossy 56-page publication that's bundled and poly-bagged with the June issue of Emmy Magazine, which is sent separately to all 14,000 academy members.

The publication deserves an award for marketing savvy. Text is large, bold and easily readable (thank you, art director). Design is elegant and dramatic. Most curious: what FX touts first inside its pages — "Sons of Anarchy," which is the network's highest-rated series ever. TV critics are crazy for it too. Blurbs inside the booklet quote the views of top media like Time magazine ("one of the best dramas on TV") and the New York Daily News (" 'Sons of Anarchy' can't be left out of any conversation about the golden age of cable drama"). EW.com says Katey Sagal "delivers a steely, layered, Emmy-worthy performance."

Season 3 Update
Quote:
I know I'm thick into the season when I look at my blog and realize I haven't posted in weeks. Twitter is spoiling me. It's the lazy man's blog. So I'd figure I'd drop an update.

We just locked picture on 301 and everyone is very excited. Directed by "Shield" alum, Stephen Kay, the network had very few notes -- which is a good sign. The season picks up a few days after the season two finale and the episode is about Jax's emotional journey through the devastation of losing a child.

So about that update -- 302, directed by another "Shield" alum, Gwyneth Horder-Payton, came out great. I will say there's a scene near the end that rivals the tattoo removal sequence in season one. It makes me giggle. I haven't seen 303 yet. That too, directed by a "Shield" alum, Billy Gierhart. Looking forward to seeing Stephen King in that one. 304 is being shot by one of my favorite directors, and another "Shield" director, Guy Ferland (do you see a pattern?). 305 is being prepped, Gwyneth is helming that one as well. 306 is written. And I'm avoiding writing 307 at this very moment. It's due a week from today.

I tweeted about the new line of merchandise that will be coming out very soon. It's very hip. I think folks are really gonna dig it. We're in the process of putting together some kind of music tour with Bob Thiele and the Forest Rangers. The iPhone app is moving forward, as is the game. Oh, and we're gonna be auctioning off a custom SOA Harley for charity. More on that in the next couple weeks.

I think that's it. Back to Charming.

SK ON SOA
By Stephen King
Quote:
The short form is I had a chance to act on Sons of Anarchy (known simply to those of us who watch on FX as Sons or SOA), and I jumped at the chance. I like to act—not that I’m much good at it, but I suspect most writers do—and a number of factors came together. I was in Los Angeles, where SOA films, to accept a library award; creator Kurt Sutter assured me that he’d write me a suitably nasty part (in various films I’ve been stuck playing a series of mentally challenged country bumpkins); most important of all, he said he’d put me on a *****in Harley. How could I say no?

I got to meet most of the cast, who’ve bonded into a little family on the ranch locale about an hour from the city where they do the filming. I was particularly pleased to meet Charlie Hunnam (Jax) and Ron Perlman, who’s acted in two of my movies (Sleepwalkers and the made-for-TV version of Desperation, where he was delicious as the evil cop, Collie Entragian). I got signed Hellboy photos for my three grandsons; pretty nice. I also got to act with Katey Sagal, who plays Gemma, the scary matriarch of the Sons clan, and Kim Coates, who plays Tig. They treated me like a professional, which I most assuredly am not. So did director Billy Gierhart (who also worked on The Mist).

The bike was just short of awesome: a bright red Harley-Davidson Road-Glide. A little tricked-out for my taste, and if I’d dropped it I never would have been able to pick it up, but I would have been glad to take it home (sadly, no deal). All black clothes, bright red sled—can’t do much better than that.

I'm really happy that FX is pushing this series for Emmy attention. It really deserves it. Unfortunately, I don't believe the Emmy voters have enough brain cells to give the show the rightful nominations.

The show definitely deserves a load of nominations after it's absolutely stellar second season. Katey Segal most definitely deserves a nomination for her performance. I actually think she deserves to take home the award, but a nomination would be lucky enough. Of course, the season deserves a Best TV Drama award. A load of episodes should be nominated for writing, most notably the finale.

I have to say I was a bit surprised to see they sent in the episode 'Balm' (I still think it's ridiculous that they don't watch these seasons in their completion). While I don't think it's the best of the season (though it's certainly up there), it definitely shows off the casts acting chops; the scene at the table is incredible.

Also, I know this is a bold statement, but I honestly think Sons of Anarchy is the best thing on television. This is coming from someone that has seen LOST, Breaking Bad, Dexter, etc. The second season really was incredible. Just fantastic in every aspect.

Without a doubt this show deserves the win, unfortunately year after year they give it to Mad Men, a show with no exciting story lines, or engaging characters.

If you think that's a bold statement, you're not familiar with me. Hands down this is my absolute favorite show on tv now, and yes I also watch all the shows you listed. Breaking Bad is definitely right behind SOA, but without question I can safely say no other show in the history of tv has had me on the edge of my seat or anticipating the week to week more than SOA. I am beyond excited to see what Sutter and the cast bring us for season 3, but the casting has been excellent and I could not be anymore looking forward to this, than I currently am.

Yes. It's really amazing how much of a jump in quality it took from season one to season two. Don't get me wrong, season one was great, but season two is just something else entirely.

I hope they don't give it to Mad Men. I agree with your criticism.

My expectations for the third season of Sons of Anarchy couldn't be higher, especially after that mind-blowing finale. I believe the show really found it's footing in season two, which means season three will be even better.

Everybody keeps saying year after year how great Mad Men is but I find myself bored to tears every time I try to watch it. You'd think a show like Sons of Anarchy with it's massive and rabid fan base, would get a bigger push. Mad Men averages around 2.5 million viewers, and Sons averages damn near double that. Not to mention its viewership grew something like 75% between seasons one and two, for me there is no question of quality writing, performances, or gripping story lines.

Based on the updates for season 3 I've read from Kurt on an almost daily basis, and the fact that Kenny Johnson is onboard for 8 episodes, I am ecstatic. I am even interested in seeing Stephen King on a Harley. But Hal Holbrook is sure to get a nomination for his performance which can only bring in more viewers. Sons is going to be the biggest show on FX and cable year after year, so get ready for one hell of a ride, cause Kurt has 7 seasons planned and with ratings like it had last season, we've got 4 more years to go.

I own the first season. I saw five or so episodes. Haven't watched since. I will someday but meh. Alison Brie means I'll watch it.

Back during the first season Kurt Sutter said he has 7 seasons planned out for the show, with all their fates and major character arcs. Though he could easily change them based on fan reaction, that's what they did with the Opie/Donna/Tig situation. Tig was originally supposed to kill Opie, but when Kurt read about the online wide support for Opie's character and all the popularity they rewrote it and Donna took his place. So while Sutter has all 7 seasons planned, he will bend to the mighty will of the fans, muhahahaha
