I do, too, but then I generally despise remakes instead of sequels and building on what was done before.
Dirk Benedict would have made a perfect Cain, though, instead of Ro Laren. That Cain had no charisma at all, completely unlike the Lloyd Bridges version. But then Starbuckette didn't have any charisma, either. ![]() |

If someone with both blu-ray and DVD versions could make image quality comparisons of the first season (or miniseries).
I heard the HD-DVD was awful.......do we have the same problem on blu-ray ? I know season 4 looks amazing but I was wondering for the first seasons... |

I can't make a proper comparison with the DVD version, but I'm watching the opening mini-series and it looks great. It looks fantastic. There is grain, but the grain even looks just fine, certainly compared to watching the show on Sci-fi (or Siffy as it is now), when grain+overcompression = fugly

I got The Complete BSG Blu-rays today and it looks amazing, sounds incredible, and each season is in its own paper case. The Cylon Figurine/Toy is pretty cool. The discs are in great shape as is the very large case. The season 1, 2, 3 and 4 boxes were flawless. This show is SOOO KICK ASS, I don't know what's better the dramatic acting, the action sequences, the storylines, the character development, the special effects or overall mythology. It was definitely worth the $209 plus tax.

This is from HD DVD Review:
"The episodes are presented with an underwhelming 1080p/VC-1 transfer that fails to distinguish itself very well from the already problematic HD broadcast. Worse still, the overall video quality doesn't look much better than it does on standard DVD. From the very first episode, I was shocked to find the image cluttered with light source noise, minor to moderate artifacting, and obvious color banding. If I only had to deal with the show's use of heavy grain, I could overlook the gritty picture and chalk up the roughness to directorial intent." http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/682/b...actica_s1.html This is echoed throughout the community who bought the HD-DVD version, along with the terrible packaging. Are these 2 people looking at the same blu ? The show looked terrible in HD on tv even so how much better can it be expected to look on blu. I blame the producer/director for stupid "'artistic grain" as usual....just give me a good picture already. |

I still don't get what is so "underwhelming" about the HD DVD transfers. There were/are some issues with the old HD DVD encodes, but the overall picture quality is not one of them. As I've said before, anyone who cannot see the large jump in quality over the DVDs has display, or eyesight, issues.

No, because the second quote was discussing the HD-DVD.

It does look a lot better than on TV. The compression artifacts introduced by the cable and satellite cos had serious problems with the grain used in the show. On blu-ray, absent these artifacts, the grain looks just fine and doesn't distract except in a few dark scenes, though I admit that I am only about halfway through the second part of the starting mini-series.

The image PQ is really great on these Blu-rays. Artistically, someone could argue over the PQ. I like the extreme contrast, the added film grain and special effects. In my opinion the artistic look of the show echoes the emotional tone of the show. I believe the show looks like the director intended. For more details here's my review:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...ow=userreviews Compare the two reviews for 300 on this (Blu-ray.com) website. Same image/transfer on both releases and 1st reviewer rated a 4, second reviewer rated a 5. Its a question of technical quality vs. artistic intention. |

I know how the show is supposed to look. Nevertheless, the HD-DVD is pure crap. |
