http://www.amazon.de/Tote-schlafen-B...Q9C7WZMX15F1AW I'm guessing WB puts out a Bogart/Bacall set next year with these, Dark Passage and To Have & Have Not. Last edited by Bates_Motel; 11-19-2015 at 03:42 AM. |

They're coming. They talked about The Big Sleep like 3 years ago. I sold off my DVD when it was mentioned as a release then nothing ever happened. but WB has the largest back catalog of any studio, so they are making sure pretty much everything they release is up to par and not some old master.

Speak for yourself. They might not be the ones that most people were clamoring for, but that's not the same thing as saying no one wanted them. They (at least the first two) were quite welcome.

I actually own Passage to Marsaille and Thank Your Lucky Stars and Dark Victory is on my wishlist. I stand corrected, almost no one wanted them.

SAE has a Twilight Time sale going on right now (well in 3 hours). I'm debating if I want to pick up House of Bamboo. I have never seen it and I'm not a fan of blind buys. Can anyone attest to its greatness or lack thereof?

I think it's a great film. The on-location Tokyo filming adds a unique element, the story is enjoyable, the acting is solid, the PQ/AQ is top-notch, and the supplements are plentiful. I say go for it.

I just watched The KL DVD of Pitfall and found it to be quite impressive. The picture is great. Rich blacks and good grain. There is hissing on the soundtrack which I assume is easy to remove in the digital age. Don't know why they didn't do it here.
I wish someone would do a comparison between both formats of a movie release from the same studio. Would be interesting to see the difference between a BR and a regular DVD. |

I'm looking forward to his commentary on Criterion's release of Gilda. I've read some of his stuff during the TCM Film Noir class, but I've yet to hear his thoughts. He seems to know his stuff, though, so I'm sure it'll be a great commentary.

I just finished watching my Kino Lorber Blu-ray of Pitfall.
![]() I never dreamed that I'd see Pitfall looking this good. Nobody will confuse this Blu-ray for a demo disc, of course, but the extent to which this film has been rescued, as judged by my previous viewings on YouTube and DVD, deserves commendation. The audio presentation has some noticeable hiss, but it also shows improvement over previous releases. Pitfall is one of my favorite films noir, because it does such a superb job of depicting how ennui with one's everyday domesticated life can lead one down some dangerous side roads. Dick Powell is masterful in his role that combines bored resignation, adventurous tendencies, and, ultimately, toughness. Raymond Burr is equally impressive as the quintessential tool (His character reminds me of a co-worker who used to work in the office next to mine and who never minded his own business.). Jane Wyatt (Gentleman's Agreement, Boomerang!), who would have been the loveliest beauty of any other film, lends a multi-layered complexity to a housewife character who might have been nondescript in a lesser film. Byron Barr (Double Indemnity) has a great air of menace in his role. Lizabeth Scott...oh...Lizabeth Scott... One of cinema's greatest beauties, and, without a doubt, cinema's sexiest voice, has never been better. Her introduction scene, by way of modeling portfolio images, is a stroke of genius. Without revealing spoilers, I'll say that Scott's character puts a fascinating and rather tragic twist on the concept of a femme fatale. The Blu-ray commentary track by Eddie Muller is informative and a lot of fun. I'm pleased to report that this noted film noir historian has hit another home run. Muller's minor tirade about a scene involving comic books had me laughing. This is one of my favorite Blu-ray releases of the year, rounded corners and all.
