99p each and £1.99 (sealed) in Oxfam Magdalen Street

Twenty Four Seven

Citizen Kane is just for the unique extras ready for when Criterion releases their 4K release. Though the graphic designer on Kane made an odd choice, rather than putting Kane against a newspaper perhaps featured in the film, it’s actually a newspaper review of the film! Would rather get Cat Ballou on Blu but the Twilight Time seems hard to find, perhaps Indicator could rescue it.

Had a great find at my local branch of Scope.

Numerous Blus were being put on the shelves, including a number of MCU titles. I was able to pick up the following…

Le Mans
An American Werewolf In London
Star Trek: First Contact
The Predator Trilogy.

All £1.50 each.

I love Death to Smoochy. Wish it was more popular so it'd get a BD upgrade...

The Science of Sleep is fun too. Underrated film from Gondry.

I found some cheap-ish Blu-ray and DVD titles recently, surprisingly:

First seven were £2 each (apart from Thor: Ragnarok which was £3), and I already have A Snake of June so might give that to someone (or sell it on). Glad to be picking up more Tony Scott-Denzel Washington titles in chazzas (actually have all of them now)!

The rest were 50p each, as I waited for them to be discounted. Especially happy with the De Palma as I haven't seen it. Crazy that School of Rock still isn't available on Blu-ray in the UK...

PS: saw a bunch of surprisingly good Blu-ray titles in Oxfam yesterday, including a Warner Archive title (When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth). Came back today and it had already gone so I guess there is some hardcore Hammer fan out there (or someone who's willing to pay £9.99 for such a thing). The other titles are tempting too but priced way too high for me to bite..

I have a lot of the Tony Scotts now, but I’m missing Déjà Vu. No director like him.

Some peculiar pricing in Oxfam recently, like Studio Ghibli DVDs for £4 each!

Wish I could hit the jackpot on 5 for £1 offers but the shop would need to have a 5 times bigger DVD section for that. Too many generic and common titles, discs I already own or otherwise available on Blu.

School of Rock I saw in the cinema when it came out, and we were shown Hotel Rwanda in high school!

Yeah I watched Unstoppable recently and loved it, so I'm on a Tony Scott binge (and Denzel, who's firmly one of my favourite modern actors, even if I don't like the film).

Yes, I noticed a copy of Nausicaa for £3.99 in my local Oxfam! Their pricing is a bit mad though, cheap on some stuff but Gift Aid stuff from the warehouse is spenny.

There's nothing close to a 5 for £1 offer anywhere near me but a local charity shop did start doing 2 for £1.50 and occasionally have the odd good one so I'm waiting for 2 to line up (annoyingly I find 1 good title and then can't find anything decent to go with it). The best place to go locally is the charity shop next to the dump, as they charge 50p flat rate on any Blu-ray or DVD, but I reckon some people clear them out of all the best stuff (I don't drive so I rarely go there).

I bought Hotel Rwanda because I remember seeing it in school and enjoying it. I thought Cheadle, Nolte and Phoenix were all cast well too. Sealed copy for 50p so worth another punt!

I've actually go Unstoppable on order at the moment, should come next week. For whatever reason I missed it on release and never really noticed it again until after I watched True Romance 4k recently and decided to browse through Tony Scott's filmography see if there was anything of interest I didn't already have.

Hotel Rwanda was one of the first blind buy DVD's I had. I adopted the format from VHS quite late in 2004. It's one of my favourite films of the 2000's and along with Tsotsi, I'm not sure why we haven't seen releases of either yet in the UK on blu-ray.

Stopped in my local Cancer Research shop this morning and picked up the following…

Armageddon
Resident Evil:Afterlife (Steelbook)
Thor (Steelbook)

They were all in near-mint condition, the steels were only missing the J-cards.

A quid each.

Unstoppable gets a lot of flak for not being very original. Fair enough. But they are missing the point of what makes it great. It's one of the best examples of that formula.

I also found it for a quid.

Spotted a few interesting things today including The Man with No Name trilogy for £6 and the complete Harry Potter series for a tenner, was a bit tatty and missing the outer case mind you.
