Felt like king of the world when we went from 19" to 25". Last regular tv was a 36" Sharp with an amazing picture. Then 50" Kuro, followed by a 65" LG OLED followed by 77" Sony OLED! What a time to be alive!

Hey, I'm smaller!
I've had 13" for 2.35:1 (AND smaller, 5"!, for 4:3 stuff).

I know this is blasphemous to admit on a forum like this, but I’ve been watching a lot of tv shows and some movies on my iPad Pro (13” screen). I find it quite cosy to watch certain stuff on it, especially while in bed with candles on the nightstand. And they have great screen/color calibration (Baz Luhrmann has even said so). But of course I still mainly use my tv and projector, and I wouldn’t watch something like Titanic on it.

It's not blasphemous at all. Like you said, they're calibrated well and generally just look great. Depending on how close to your eyes it is, it might take up more of your FOV than some people's TVs.

As someone who grew up with a screen that was practically the size of an ipad, and now has a 65 inch OLED (which isnt that big but it still feels like a movie theater compared to what I grew up with) I always tell people however which way you watch a movie isn't important as long as you get to watch movies. I grew up basically wishing for what I have now but I still have endless fond memories of discovering movies for the first time on tiny screens that I wouldn't trade for anything in the world.

I watch TV shows, regularly, on my Kindle Fire HD 10 (2021 model).
It's much more convenient to have an SD card with all your TV shows handy, sometimes, than to have NAS drives all over the place, specially on winter when It's relaxing sitting in front of a fireplace.

As far as movies goes, It's either TV or the giant IMAX screen of BigScreen or Skybox VR.
I know it might sound "blasphemous", but having a personal private theater to watch movies to, in VR, without any distractions, and where you can even switch seats, it's just as immersive as going to a multiplex, but with the comfort of your home.

Both TITANIC and Avatar in 3D looked better on the Quest than on my old Sony 3D TV.
Much better FOV, more comfortable, no ghosting or any backlight bleed issue of any kind.
Just a pure bright natural-looking 3D picture.

VR has definitely come a long way since it was introduced.

I had one of those 14" CRT TVs with all the buttons in a tray underneath the screen.
I played A LOT of SNES/Nintendo 64, as well as movies, on the thing, when I was a kid.

My very first HD TV was a 32" off-brand TV.
Nothing too fancy, but It did the job just fine, at the time.
Then I went with a Bravia 3DTV that I sold after 2 years, and now I have a 55" Samsung UHD TV.

With that said, I say: enjoy movies wherever you want to.
Don't be ashamed if you, sometimes, like to watch movies on your Ipad or smartphone.

1080p on YouTube is not a way to judge if the grain was removed.

Any news on how many pages that book is that comes with the collector's edition? That's really what's keeping me from hitting the "cancel preorder" button.

Is it? It's the same thing every single time a 1080p trailer of a 4K restoration is released on YouTube

Now, I'm not saying Abyss won't be DNRd, it's just not the way to judge it. They should upload the 2160p version, that would give us a better idea.

i think if there was grain, the grain would be somewhat visible although it'd look more like mushy compression artifacts, but the trailer looks consistently smooth

The colors looked fine enough to me, I think some people here have a teal obsession. Any blue that looks even remotely too light gets called teal here, regardless if it looks bad or not. One would think that teal has never been used in movies besides inaccurate color gradings. One would think that teal is an ugly color. It isn't an ugly color. This picture looks to me just like teal-to-blue lighting. On its own, it looks fine. If it is accurate or not to how the colors looked when the film came out, I won't pretend to know. I remember The Three Colors' controversy because some people here hated the teal and said it was wrong, and in the end it wasn't.

About DNR, there were some shots that felt weird up close indeed. But I'll avoid jumping to final conclusions.

True, but it depends how thick that grain is - if it's a fine layer of delicate grain, there's no way you will see any sign of it in 1080p on YT.

All I can say now is no matter how smooth that trailer looks, it doesn't resemble T2: Wax Day.
