It's gone again so maybe this will be filled as they only took orders for a couple of hours. I wonder if a bunch got stuck in customs coming into Canada.

Someone should do a tally on how many times during the entire run of films a kid yells out Gamera's name.

Just getting to watching the Heisei trilogy. Arrow killed it on the transfers, easily worth the price of admission alone, these movies never have looked better, and they deserve it. The original classic looks fantastic as well. The following sequels are pretty terrible though IMO. And I just saw the 3rd market price of this set, yikes!

If you were to make a drinking game based on this, there are a couple of films in the middle of the Showa series where you'd be blitzed out of your mind somewhere past the half-way point of the film!

They are releasing a basic set without all the books sometime "soon". Might be cheaper to wait for that one unless you are intent on getting the extra stuff too.

Well, it looks like someone got the final decision on the Gamera the Brave disc on Facebook.

Man talk about a load of bull with that response from them. They could and should make it right. They just don't want to bother with it since it's already out of print I'm sure. And I doubt they will bother to fix it for the standard release. And from ripping my disc and playing around with it a bit it seems pretty fixable. At least better than it's current state as the dub for Brave is unwatchable with how out of sync it is. It's beyond embarrassing that the book goes out of its way to mention the dub had been fixed when it hadn't been at all. And the fact they try and excuse that away like they did is laughable. As how could it be fixed but then not fixed. Unless they lied in the book from the beginning?
And I'm thinking I may have a potential reason why it's the way it is. But I could be wrong. So I ripped the disc and instead of like all the others being just the standard film file. The ripped Brave file comes out with the film instead of just playing. It starts with a title card for the master they were supplied with and goes on for a bit before the film actually starts. Doesn't of course appear this way when you watch the film on disc but appears that way when you rip the film. So my theory is that because it's like that. They seemingly timed the audio tracks wrong. As when I adjusted the timing of the tracks by just a bit they the dialogue, sound effects and so on appeared to be much more in sync. |

In fairness, the issues with the old MB disc were much worse -- while it isn't ideal, I could watch the dub as it is on Arrow's disc; I absolutely could not on MB's.
I do think it's lame that they're not even apparently fixing it for future pressings, though. Issuing replacements at no charge is a substantial extra expense with no return, so I can see why that's kind of a last resort (though that doesn't stop plenty of other labels), but having it corrected for the standard edition really seems like the bare minimum. |

Reissues coming in January plus Steelbook edition for Heisei trilogy.
![]() Annoyingly if you want the Steelbook and Gamera the Brave you'd have to buy both Heisei sets. |
