because.... why not I guess. It's hilarious.
I guess someone had the following brainwave: "dude lives on a dairy farm...but we don't show any cows! Better CG a few in there, just in the background like". Tarantino's a bit like Nolan in that respect, he'll bang on about film until the - heh - cows come home but they use far more digital shite in their movies than people realise. It's got to be of a certain quality of coursh, i.e. seamless or near as damn it, but it is there.

I'd bet Tarantino would have been willing to put some CG people on the beach in Dunkirk tho.

The German UHD is identical to the German BD in that it has the extended version of the card scene, as seen here.

I really don't know why Universal is so adamant in having the German release different. Or maybe it's at Tarantino's request(the same way the JP version of Kill Bill vol. 1 is different).

Is the Blu-ray that accompanies the 4K UHD disc the same as the previous Blu-ray?

Thanks

There is some CG there in Dunkirk but yeah, the beach scenes are downright serene. They actually used cardboard cutouts to create more people on the beach and used some CG to give them a little bit of animation, literally and figuratively. For the widest overhead shots they used all-CG crowds in the distance. More smoke was added to some wide shots but even those smoke elements had to be 100% photochemical in origin, they were lifted from IMAX shots and comped into others wherever Nolan needed them.

A quick sample of my disc as it arrived today; the raised blacks was the first thing noticed. It's like the disc was pressed among the first wave of Uni releases back in the first year or so of the format.. Shame as the detail otherwise is good.

Watching now, so glad I picked this disc up, I think it looks great. After watching Django and Hateful Eight on Netflix last night... which I still love, I definitely still think this is Tarantino's absolute best film by a mile.

I am craving an apple strudel. There is an Austrian bakery nearby. Any recommendation on supermarket whip cream that is closest to what was served in this movie?

I'd give anything for Jackie Brown on 4K.

Reddiwhip is real whipped cream, though it does come out a nozzle. Most tubs of whipped cream are not real whipped cream, but oil and sugar whipped together.

Whipped cream isn’t that hard to make. Just make sure to add the sugar after you’ve done most of the whipping, as the sugar can prevent the cream from thickening if you add it too soon. Just use granulated sugar to taste.

I think someone in this thread mentioned that it was. I have the US release, so I can't confirm personally.

i have both german and us release and can confirm german has the extended cut (few seconds more in the tavern scene). as usual US has burnt-in subs and captions while german/eu has player-generated ones.

It is the same but it's the exact one from the Tarantino XX set which is a bit weird.
