If people are going to venture to the theaters right now, in general, I don't think it's going to be to watch a 25 year-old film versus something new, especially on a Sunday of a holiday weekend. Even for big Scream fans, considering the film is about to be rereleased in a brand new transfer on home media a week from now.

FWIW, I also saw a lot of reaction on Twitter and Reddit from people that decided not to go once the word quickly spread that the Scream 5 trailer wasn't being shown. I saw post after post of people saying "I was only really going for the new trailer".
Have you seen how many people went to Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone?!

The fact the new 4K disc is also coming out in like a week with the same new restoration doesn’t help.

there were about 5 people in the theater when I saw The Evil Dead... I wouldn't have known about it if I hadn't received an email from grindhouse, it doesn't appear that these screenings are marketed very well so many people probably aren't even aware... then factor in some theaters may still be closed or limited, some people are scared to go anywhere, and the movie is 25 years old

I can't wait to see Scream (2022) in theater, but they aren't related.

Even still, it very well might flop lol.
Owning the film isn't the point though. Not being sarcastic, it's just that these events are for fans to express their communal love for these movies. They're there just as much for the collective cinema experience as they are for seeing the movie itself. Unfortunately it seems like neither facet was enough to get people out to see it, and that's a shame.

I'd much rather just watch stuff at home now that my setup is pimped out.

I agree, and I know. I just pick my battles right now given that we are in the heat of great films coming out in theaters.

But yes, with the new 4K disc coming out soon and no Scream (2022) trailer attached to it (big no-brainer to include), I can see those being other big factors for others not to want to go.

No clue. Were they on a Sunday in the middle of a holiday weekend, too?

In any case, as I said earlier - if you look at social media about this, word spread like wildfire from the earlier showings that the trailer for the new film wasn't actually shown. I saw post after post from people saying "I was thinking about going tonight, but mostly just to see the trailer first, thanks for saving me the trouble."

Scream 4 definitely under performed compared to the previous installments/expectations, particularly in the US, but it actually didn't tank as bad as folks remember. It did a lot better internationally than it did domestically. It still made almost 100M, on a 40M budget.

Clearly, though, it didn't do well enough that they wanted an immediate sequel (likely because a part 5 at that point would have cost them a lot more, as above the line paydays would have obviously jumped).

I think you are right, though - we are pretty lucky that we are getting another one. I'm pretty surprised they got the OG cast back, to be honest.

Well shit, it looks like I won’t be able to see it after all because my local theaters don’t have a 3pm show tomorrow like they did today. :/ I have a workshop at 7:30, and I couldn’t see it today because I worked both of my jobs. At least I got to see it once on the big screen!

My auditorium for tonight's 7pm showing only had 5-6 rows of seats but it was actually pretty full. The 4K restoration was stunning. I can't believe how good it looked compared to the existing rubbish disc.

At least 10-15 people stayed after the film in hopes that the new trailer was going to be shown and were not happy. One guy got a babysitter for his kids and lamented that he binged all the films last week and the new trailer was the only reason he came out to the theater.

Why? It's not like they have something else to do.

Not for a matinee and especially for a 25 year old movie. I could have bought a ticket for No Time to Die in Imax for $11 that was starting at the same time. To me $10 would have been more reasonable. Plus there was a $2 “convenience fee” on each ticket which made it over $15 per ticket.

Cant wait to get the new disc. Hopefully the trailer drops soon. There was a leak of the Spanish trailer going around, but would be nice to get a good quality English language trailer.
