Darth Vader is Luke's father! Spoiled! See how silly that is. Idk what the spoiler tag rules are in this thread. In most cases after a certain amount of time spoiler tags are no longer required.

I just finished watching this show in July. If I had checked into this thread and read the last few pages, I would have been royally screwed.

Well, I'm glad you were smart and stayed out of the thread.

We have a thread in the television scetion where those who are watching the show can discuss it with spoiler tags. If one is still watching the show I would advise against venturing into any threads that do not explicitly require spoiler tags.

Dude, it's common courtesy. The spoiler tag rules are the same here as they are in every BR.com thread that specifically does not say SPOILERS in the thread title.

It's just like how the manners one shows in someone's home are the same everywhere as well. You don't put your feet up on someone's coffee table without their permission, do you? I don't.

You don't want to use the tags, don't use the tags. I didn't know members were allowed to do whatever they wanted to do.

Some people are considerate, regardless of the rules. Some aren't.

Yeah, except that you are supposed to use them when the thread does not specifically state that it is or is not spoiler free.

Their purpose is to protect people from having things ruined for them when they need to use a thread prior to watching something. Like, "hey, this is only $80 now at Target! Should I get it?" And then they see something an insensitive member posted in the process.

Might as well remove them as a feature then. By your guy's justifications, they're pointless.

Perhaps an admin might drop by to clear this up.

Ironically I've had this argument for spoiler tags in other threads on this forum and was basically told that if the title doesn't say 'spoiler tags required' it was my own fault I ventured into the thread. I've also been told that the use of spoiler tags are up to the discretion of the poster unless the title says they are required. I do know after a certain amount of time spoiler tags are no longer required, but that could be up to the discretion of the mod looking after the thread.

Generally speaking, you are correct that it is wise to stay away from threads about movies one still wants to see. But sometimes we need to use one of those threads prior to watching something; normally, to ask advice on a purchase or inquire about specific details like PQ or special features.

Most of the time, I see most members using the tags an a reasonable and respectful manner. But on occasion, there will be someone who just does not care about anyone but themselves.

Me, I tend to be fast and loose with them. If it is a film that just came out or isn't open in all territories I will use tags. If it is a show, I give a person 24 hours to watch it. After that it is on you whether you are spoiled. If the title of the thread specifies one way or the other I adjust accordingly.

As for this thread, it really should be reserved for discussion of the blu-rays and deals regarding them. The television section has a couple threads for discussing the finer points of the series. That is where the discussion on the gods and religion in the show belongs.

Well, almost the entire forum is supposed to be about discussing the blus themselves and not the movies. But we're all fans, so it's close to impossible to make that happen. We get into our favorites and want to talk about them.

Their existence is proven by their artifacts left behind, however, I really don't think these Lords were god's in the traditional sense. Even, Caprica-Valerii questions their actual divinity. Think of the beings in assassin's creed. Highly advanced beings that resided on Kobol prior to man, and later they resided with or created mankind on Kobol. Mankind of Kobol worshiped these beings and deified them, and naturally in the sands of time the true nature of the beings would be lost and they would be remembered as actually being deities and gods. Heck even Kobol was lost in time and became a mythical place to the 12 tribes.

As for the singular god that the thirteenth tribe worship, I've always been under the assumption that it is either of the same race as the other 12 Lords, or an even higher being. Granted I'll give you that RDM should have steered clear of the words angel and one true god, but he used them so what can ya do. Just gotta roll with it. Now the idea of angels aren't exclusive to modern religions and don't necessarily have to mean feathery winged beings. That imagery is something that was tacked on in the christian movement. As far as I know angels were not described in such a way. So yeah they are angels in that they help some higher being but that doesn't mean they have feathers and are cliche. Think of them like secretaries. They get shit done. So I don't see the problem with them being called angels. Most would label a being like that as such. As for the singular god, I'm just not inclined to believe that RDM was referencing the God of the bible or any religion on earth. This is scifi. Its vague at best and can be taken many ways. Its not even worth getting bothered with let alone ruin the finale.

Side question, I've read that RDM worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Is it good, or in the same ballpark as BSG, quality wise?
Do you like Star Trek? It's a great show in my opinion, but I'm a trekkie...

It tackles some similar themes. War, religion, the flaws of mankind. It even shows the Federation doing some nasty things to get the job done, sometimes.

It's one of few Star Trek's with a grand, overall story that continues to develop throughout the series, but there are many standalone episodes too.

It does have some pretty boring episodes in the first two seasons, but a lot of necessary development for the rest of the show. So you can't skip them, unfortunately. But, hopefully, you'll be glad you watched the show by the last episode.

Then give Babylon 5 a go too. It was meant to be a Star Trek, but they didn't wanna do a Trek about a space station, with no real Trekking. When they realized the show was good, DS9 was in production instantly, and it is remarkably similar.

(B5 is a space station orbiting a hyperspace gate, DS9 orbits a wormhole. Both captains love baseball. There are two races in both shows that are incompatible and have suffered greatly; In B5 the aggressive Centauri had occupied the reptile-like religious Nann, in DS9 the aggressive reptile-like Cardassians occupied the religious Bajorans. Both have a character named Damar. Both feature advanced cultures that are interpreted as gods. Both are mostly about a war with a higher species. There is probably more.)

But yeah, if you like Trek, go buy all seven seasons of DS9, RIGHT NOW! If you are a casual fan/impartial/hate Star Trek, try a rental or lend of the first season, remember it's the dud season, and decide if you want to continue.

I like star trek. Not huge fan, but I enjoy it and the universe. I've been trying to get into ST: Next Generation, but I'm finding the first season to be difficult to get through.

The first season of any Trek is like that. Very much unlike BSG, where the first season was like what I assume heroin is!

But choke it up. Star Trek has many writers, and many ideas. If you watch it all, you will see some of the worst television ever aired. But there are many episodes that are pure gold, and many many more that are just great entertainment!

They're like microcosms of popular films. There's drama, romance, comedy, horror, action... you name it!

Like The Simpsons, I quote both in my day-to-day life when I see relevant reasons. As I imagine a Christian may quote the Bible, when it reflects a situation.

Lol that bit had me rolling. I remember I watched the miniseries and was kind of then I watched '33 Minutes" and I was . I haven't had a show capture me like that since. Lost was the same way. That opening scene on the beach is still imo the best show open ever.

The "Deals" forum is for deals, topics in this forum have always been about discussing the various shows on Blu-ray. Long as its available on Blu-ray, its all open for discussion.

Yeah, I think people like kemcha are confusing blu-ray.com to imdb.com. I would never go on there for a series that has already ended when I'm watching it for the first time.

Spoiler tags are expected in these threads. And no, the 'watch the series first, then click on thread' excuse doesn't cut it. Many people go in threads for stuff they haven't seen on this website for various reasons. Because again, this isn't a forum like IMDB. And Galactica is hardly something like Godfather, Star Wars, Citizen Kane, that most people know about, or famous plot points are apart of popular culture.

It's even more unacceptable, when this whole spoiler discussion, and debate on the final episode started because I asked if the 2nd season was the peak of the series. Why I asked is because I was enjoying the hell out of season 2, and was just curious if the rest of the series remained at that level. And in the same post I made it clear it was my first time watching the series. People responded respectfully, until kemcha chimed in with non spoiler tagged specifics about the final episode, and started another debate.

But I stopped reading after I heard that
[Show spoiler] 'Star Buck' is an Angel
which sounds stupid (and hard to think of a context for it), and now I'm always going to have that in mind. I just came back and searched for 'spoiler' to see if anyone commented on the uncool spoilers.

If it was a new series, I could understand spoiler tags but this series has been over for a long time and most everyone on here has watched the series repeatedly. I've watched it once or twice, from beginning to end.

You are not everyone. And the poster specifically said he hadn't watched it. Common courtesy says you use spoiler tags.
