The producers/writers would find a way. He was sent off to China for a couple years and had a new identity working in Texas for six months without anyone knowing his true identity or whether he was alive.

He went off the Grid at the end of Season 4 and 5

The trades are now saying it will be a 13 episode season. Thats fine with me. I say get rid of the ticking clock and just make the whole 13 episode season take place over a 24 hour period.
Greatly looking forward to it. This will be the first season of 24 I will watch as it airs since the first season (from season 2-8 I just waited until the DVD's came out)

I think I am caught up, it would be awesome if this works out...will be following this thread very closely now.

I don't know if anyone still look at Touch but it wrapping up its second season, so far this season blew the first one away, I can only see Sutherland in Jack Bauer mode everytime he kicks someone ass.

I am so happy it is coming back. I always thought 24 had the potential to do a further 2 more seasons. As long as there's a demand, why not?

I was hoping Touch would improve, as the concept was quite interesting, but the episodes were just the same thing over and over with different people. For me, I found it a little frustrating to watch, as I kept expecting at any moment Kiefer to go into Jack Bauer mode and sort everything and everyone out.

At least this means 24 can come back (I thought it should've carried on or at least tied everything up with a film) and give us a proper ending to Jack Bauer. I just hope they go back and look at the formulas that made Season 1-3 so unique and made 24 what it is. By the time it reached the 5th season things changed quite considerably and it became more action orientated from then onwards. I watched 24 from the day it first aired on TV, so for me there are lots of reasons why I feel this way. To others who came very late to the show, they may feel differently and prefer the later Seasons - a lot of my friends do. Basically, I'd like to see more of Jack as he appeared in Season 1-3 where he appears more human - he becomes a bit more indestructible later on.

Anyway, regardless of what they decide to do, I will probably watch it.

What you didn't like post season 5, where at the beginning of season 6 he had a hole drilled in his shoulder and was god after that?

There's lots of little things really. In Season 6 when he came back from the Chinese prison, he seemed quite broken and at several times was unable to do his job properly. I liked that aspect, but it was like he got over it almost immediately and all was forgotten. I felt they should've carried it further. It reminded me how Jack was a bit broken in Season 2 after what happened in Season 1 and he was also struggling to deal with his drug habit in Season 3. It made him more human. I like to see Jack Bauer be Jack Bauer as much as everyone, but there were times where it just got a bit too far fetched.

A 13 episode order is more than okay with me. Or even a 15 order like The Following as, which is what I expected. There is demand, but just how much? I think it would probably perform at worst the same as The Following, maybe a tad better. But would the buzz die off? Fox is probably worried about doing a whole 24 episode order. Not that the show really ever had much filler, but 15 hours would be great. It's a fair welcome with enough time to really tell a story. They could easily start with the first 3 episodes spread over several hours and for the final 12 hours jump back to real time. Lots of possibilities.

Touch has improved a lot with the second season I think, it's very different to the first. It's a shame it's been cancelled but still, I'd pick a new season of 24 over Touch any day.

A 13 episode run would work fine in real time I think. Every season as much as I can remember are basically made up of three segments. As soon as one section comes to a climax another one begins. So yeah, they could easily fit a good story into 13 episodes.

Yes, just checked. Tonight is the final episode.

Also:

7.55 million - season 1 average (12 episodes, excludes Bonus Fall 2013 episode)

2.68 million - season 2 average (12 episodes, finale not counted)

very alarming drop lol. but expected with the day change and no American Idol to help it

Didn't think the numbers was that bad, the damage was done early in season 1 when it became the same thing week after week, but season 2 was much much better...

Thanks for the heads up, I really thought next Friday was the season finally.

I'm excited to hear that 24 could be coming back, but it really does need to be a full 24-episode series. Part of what made the show so unique and interesting was the real-time format AND also the fact that it took course over a single day, which meant you had to experience all the changes of a day along with the season. The commercial breaks allowed enough time to slip by in between that you didn't feel things were totally ludicrous, but at the same time, with so many narrative threads, you really felt the pressure/excitement of knowing things were always happening, and not just happening because the narrative says so.

I suppose they could do thirteen hours in real-time, but that MIGHT be too short of a time for so much to happen, even in a 24 season.

There's no guarantee that it's coming back, only that Fox has said that they are looking at the possibility of bringing the series back as a "limited series", possibly in the same veign as perhaps "Missing".

But, from what little I remember, at the end of the series, Jack Bauer pleads with Chloe to protect his daughter, Kim, and as he turns to face the camera, the monitor goes dark, with Jack shown as being injured.

While I enjoyed the series as a whole, it was the final season that really turned my stomach and I stopped watching it after a few episodes because of how intense the on-screen violence got for a TV series. While I enjoy watching horror films, there's only so much on-screen violence that I could stomach and the final season of 24 really forced me to stop watching that final season.

I'm right there with you on wanting it to be a limited series. I actually liked the movie, '24: Redemption', that they did. It proved the series could work without the 24 episode, 24 hour formula. 'Die Hard' was all in a 24 hour period, if not less, and worked wonderful in just over two hours. It'll be great to see how this is all handled. Done correctly, this limited series could be excellent. It's a good time to bring it back too, with the current world events, bringing back Jack now seems like perfect timing.

There are talks now that it will be 12 1hour episodes and each episode will be 2 hours in time.

I don't really care if they only do 10. We were originally getting ZERO episodes of 24 so ANYTHING is great. I think they can still do a great season of 10, 12, 13, 15, 20, 22, 24 episodes. Whichever # they end up picking.

I still think 15 episodes and airing with The Following would be a fantastic evening of programming.

It would even be cool to do a crossover episode one night where somehow Bacon and Sutherland interact. 24 often featured a few smaller storylines in one big one. I think that would be cool, gimmicky or not.

It would be great to see Bauer get on L.A.’s 405 freeway at the end of one episode and arrive at his destination two hours later at the start of the next episode — now that would be realistic action!

Looks like a lot of people have some good ideas for how to make this work. I'm so excited.
