I saw this movie about six years ago and enjoyed it. But after all that time I really didn't remember much about it besides that it was about Tom Hanks being stuck in an airport.

Tom Hanks plays Victor who is on his way to New York but gets detained at the airport because his country's government is overthrown and he is a citizen of nowhere..."unacceptable." In his time here he adjusts to his situation, forms bonds with employees at the airport and even finds a special someone (Zeta-Jones).

The story is quite simple, and it works incredibly well. The balance between drama and comedy is absolutely perfect. There is never a portion of the film that is overly serious or a portion that is comedic when it feels inappropriate. Everything clicks into place and runs incredibly smoothly for the entire duration of the film.

The situations that Victor is placed into and his interactions with the characters are all executed well and by the end
[Show spoiler]when he is leaving the airport and all the people in the airport are following him to the door you are (or at least I was) about him finally getting into New York to get the signature for his late father.

Regarding the comedy...it is absolutely hilarious. I had to pause the movie several times because I couldn't stop laughing and was not hearing what was being said next

Tom Hanks is fantastic as Victor. I could elaborate on that but...that sums it up. He was fantastic.

I really enjoy everyone in the movie actually. From the grumpy janitor to incredible attractive stewardess, everyone single one of the major supporting characters (did I just create a new category? ) is interesting and well played during the dramatic moments and the comedic moments. I don't have a single complaint about any of them.

And what makes them even better is that they all work very well with Hanks on screen.

I really have no real complaints about this movie that I can think of. Which is rare because there are things that I dislike about my favorite movies; so I love it when a film comes along and I don't have a single problem with it no matter if its tiny or significant. But it is one of those movies that for some reason does not get a 5/5, even with me having no problems with the film.

Rating - 4.75/5

The Killing

Paths of Glory

Good to see that a couple of the missing Kubrick titles have been announced for France. I'm sure we'll see them here soon.

The French branch of Warner Home Video has announced that, on May 18, it will release Lolita and Barry Lyndon. These are the two only Stanley Kubrick movies in WHV's library that for some reason hadn't seen a high-definition release back in 2007. Edition details are unknown as of yet.

Easy A

Finally got to watch it and boy, this movie was Awesome (pun intended). It was incredibly funny, very well acted (the entire cast was phenomenal), beautifully shot and the soundtrack was excellent. I immediately fell in love with Emma Stone and the movie has the right mix of comedy, drama and romance. I loved every minute of it and I'll order the blu-ray right away!

Easy A gets an easy 5/5

Can't argue with that

And while I'm talking about Twilight, I have little doubt that you will like Eclipse the best out of the three. While I have yet to watch my copy (I will either tonight or on Wednesday), it is the one with the most action by far from what I hear. Will you actually like it? I dunno, but it should at least hold your interest.
If it scores a 2.75/5 it becomes the best of the three for me, so its not that hard to achieve...perhaps it will.

Lastly, I would give my opinions on your issues with New Moon, but I think they've already been covered pretty well. I keep going back and forth between that and Twilight as to which is my favorite between the first two, but I think they will both be replaced once I watch Eclipse.
Are you going to come out of retirement and review it?

The Social Network

film #18

116 minutes

year: 2010
director: david fincher
starring: jesse eisenberg, andrew garfield, justin timberlake

finally being able to sit down and watch The Social Network after months of hearing how great it was, was something i was very excited to be doing today. and on a snowy tuesday in wisconsin, what else is there to do?

and honestly, The Social Network is flawless in every single category: acting, script, score, directing, cinematography, story, and atmosphere The Social Network definitely deserves a Best Picture nomination and i feel very strongly that it should win Best Picture this year. yes, i haven't see all of what we believe will be the nominated, but The Social Network was flawless, and unless i just happen to like another film more, this should be the winner in my opinion.

for people who constantly say, "i don't like / have / know what / care about / whatever... facebook" and are going to skip out on The Social Network because of its connection to facebook then that is your loss and choice of stupidity. if you don't want to watch it because it doesn't look interesting? okay, that's fine. i get that. but saying, "i hate facebook so i'm not gonna watch this" is nothing but stupid.

this is about a BUSINESS, not FACEBOOK as an entity. do you want to see how a business tears friends apart, know some of the dirty secrets behind a massive billion dollar company, and how it all began? i did, and that's why i originally wanted to see The Social Network. it's not a film with a bunch of people sitting around on facebook, that would be lame. The Social Network is definitely not.

jesse eisenberg does a phenomenal job in his biggest role to date (by far) as Mark Zuckerberg. as does Timberlake and Garfield in their respective roles. the scene stealer(s) though was Armie Hammer who plays the Winklevoss twins (i didn't know it was one actor! ) every scene he was in was fantastic and he had so many funny lines of dialogue and facial expression were classic.

if i had to choose the best aspect, i would be left with the following:

- directing
- score
- script

all three are easily 5/5's. the directing is probably Fincher's best to date. the score by Trent Reznor was / is so, so, so awesome and addicting (bought it as soon as it ended and listening to it ever since ) and the script. so fast paced, so witty, so smart and so cunning and @ss-holish. it's wonderful! and i was amazed at the amount of times i seriously during The Social Network. if you don't mind some people who come across as slimy, egotistical and a genuine smart @ss then you will definitely enjoy the dialogue of The Social Network.

as far as Fincher's work goes, i will have to think about it, but i believe as far as overall "best" films of his, this is either #1 or #2. if it is #2, it's behind Zodiac. the way he directs The Social Network is magical. and for a film that is very heavily dialogue driven, the 116 minutes fly by and i was hooked to the screen the entire damn time. i never got bored, the film never got slow and i never wished it would end. it could have been four hours and i would have sat, curious, wide eyed and in complete amazement and joy at this masterful creation.

cannot wait to dive into the commentaries and special features soon

PQ: 5/5 - very dark scenes with low lighting. i loved it. looks amazing
AQ: 5/5 - dialogue heavy, but some scenes with music are

Final Verdict: 5/5 - loved it!

They're cool too. Ashley Greene would probably be my second choice.

I think I like the ladies who play Victoria as well. Wow, I didn't realize they switched actresses between "New Moon" and "Eclipse."

Wow, I didn't realize one of them also played the lead in "The Village."

To be fair to the pothead Kristen Stewart, she did look incredible in the third movie for sure, she also looked really good in Adventureland.
Up to the Batmans today, still think Burton did just as good of a job as Nolan and Schumacher's are overly hated. I do love Under the Red Hood, a movie every Batman fan should see at least once, especially if they also like the Robin character(s).

yeah i waited to get / listen to the soundtrack until i saw the film (just an odd quirk of mine i guess ) and i love it. i'm not a huge Reznor or NIN fan, but i like Reznor's separate music from NIN's music. he's a great talent that gets overlooked because of the music of look of NIN which is a shame.

I liked those two paragraphs, I agree that it is silly that people refuse to watch the film because it features the word Facebook as a topic, when if they saw it they would see it's very much against Facebook, there are quite a few parts where they completly deglamorize the idea of how un-human socializing has become, especially with that ending.

exactly. it wasn't like Mark was running around giving everyone with the finger while throwing hundred dollar bills at them while naked super models chased him down the street fighting off super best friends.

and the ending really is very much depressing in a way. i mean, really, what i kept thinking was, "this shows that money doesn't fix everything" and that every action really does seem to have an equal and opposite reaction.

but it would be the same if they made a movie about Wal-Mart, people who hate and don't shop there wouldn't want to watch it "because i hate Wal-Mart" even if it's presented like The Social Network.

i also wonder, how can someone HATE a website? that's laughably dumb imo. it's a website! unless you're the Winklevoss twins, no one really has a right to hate a website lol

I'm going to be checking this out eventually.

I think I like the ladies who play Victoria as well. Wow, I didn't realize they switched actresses between "New Moon" and "Eclipse."

Wow, I didn't realize one of them also played the lead in "The Village."

You need to get your mind right!

Victoria...that's the red head right?

I don't care about FACEBOOK, I have no interest at all in how it came about, there are no actors that I like in it...
I feel like I "should" watch it, but I just don't want to!
Actually I was being 100% sarcastic. Since Bearcat was saying it would be "dumb" to not see it based on ones feelings about the actual site, I figured I'd make a ridiculous post.

I was also poking fun at a "certain member" who has no interest in another film that will be making a play for the best film Oscar.

I am very eager to see this because of the "foul play" element. Sounds fantastic. I love backstabbing in movies.
