Will the free membership 2 month trial still be running when the sale starts? I might sign up and buy a few things and take advantage of it while it is free.

Why shop online?? (Unless you don't live near a store)
The $5 coupon was supposed to be on titles over $20 after the 50% and after your member discount. I can't remember how many titles I bought during the last sale (I think it was around 8), but only once did the cashier not override the system. YMMV.

Just watched The Thin Red Line from Netflix. Talk about a borderline religious experience.

Dear all,

I am planning to buy a bunch of criterions at the B&N sale in November. Living in Denmark complicates things a bit, but I plan to send them all to a friend in Washington and pick them up in December during a short stay there. I just registered for their free membership in the hope to have yet another 10 per cent subtracted from my planned investment, however, it seems like you have to buy in their stores and not on the internet to be able to benefit from the 10 per cent. This is really a shame. But here comes the question: They also add that if you pay the 25 dollers to become member a year then you get 50 dollers of coupons. Does anyone know whether these would be useful on the internet or like the 10 percent only apply at their stores?

Thanks in advance...

Morten

From what I recall of the last sale in July, the use of coupons online for the Criterion sale was put to an end. I don't recall if it applied to all coupons or just select ones, but I do recall that each Criterion title on B&N's website state that coupons were not accepted during the sale.

I think its hilarious that Criterion chose that. Also that disc art is awesome, too bad I don't like the movie enough to buy it, the packaging is cool all around.

The person ringing up my movies was, at first, telling me that it may not work. When I read the coupon, I think it was worded so that it would work on any movie originally priced over $20. I don't remember anything that said "after deductions" or whatever.

The cashier did not have to override anything. She also let me use the same coupon, and she rang up each sale individually. I do not have my receipts anymore, but I remember buying just about every movie I did not currently have because of the price!

Here is my original post from July 13, after I scored big @ B&N. Warning: I do sound like a prick in the post, however, I was laughing at something someone posted in response to the many complaints some members had to the repetitive questions being asked about replacement cases and spine numbers. I also said I was bragging because other members were sick of people posting what they had picked up at the sale....so here goes:

"Hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

I'm going to brag here because I got my CC BDs for $14.04 (except for Yojimbo/Sanjuro box & The Leopard) each with member discount, 50% off sale, and a coupon that was posted a few days ago letting the customer get $5 off a DVD or BD of $20 or more...the cashier rang each up individually...saved about $50 on the coupon use alone.

Discs purchased:

The Leopard
Yojimbo/Sanjuro box
Gimme Shelter
The Seventh Seal
For All Mankind
Monsoon Wedding
In the Realm of the Senses
Bottle Rocket (plastic case)
El Norte (digi)
The Last Metro (digi)
Everlasting Moments
Lola Montes
Mystery Train"

So $14.04 is what I paid for the single disc CCs, and I will try it again this time, unless the in-store policy has changed regarding the use of coupons.

I'm pretty sure the previous in-store coupons did state the the "over $20 price" was before any discounts were applied.

However, looking at the new in-store coupons that are available, it states "a minimum B&N Selling Price of $20 - and will be deducted after all other discounts, including the standard Member discount, are applied. The B&N Selling Price is the price at the cash register before taxes and discounts, including the standard Member discount, are applied."

So, the fine print of the coupons seem to have contradicting terms from one sentence to another. To me, the first sentence in red sounds as if the $5-off discount is only going to be applied if the selling price of $20 is reached after all discounts have been applied. Then, the second sentence in blue, though, completely discredits the previous sentence by saying the "selling price" is before any taxes and discounts. Am I reading that wrong?

I think that first (red) sentence is stating that the discount will be applied after all other discounts are given. This means that less money will be deducted from an item with a price tag of $18 than a full price BD at $39.99. However, in order to qualify for said discount, the original price needs to be above $20, which all CC films are.

Here's my understanding of it. The second sentence simply defines what the "selling price" is, which is $20 before any discount is applied. Based on the definition it's saying that the $5 off will only be deducted after other discounts such as the 10% off member discount has been deducted from the item with a $20 selling price. So the coupon will work like $20-10%=18-5=13.

I finally watched it on Tuesday and I must say, I was a little unsure of how I watched this film once about 10 years ago and actually disliked it. I believe my problem was that I went about viewing films much differently when I was younger. Ten years ago, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed many of the films I enjoy now.

As a kid, I though Blade Runner was a bore...now I watch it every year (and can switch it up with the 5 different versions!) I probably would have turned off The Secret of the Grain after 30 minutes if I had watched it years ago...but I loved every minute of it!

The opening 30 or so minutes of TTRL is powerful. Each character's emotions are clearly portrayed and when they finally go into war, it is that much worse for the viewer. To actually feel something for these characters after such little screen time is something that is difficult to do, and it is rarely a feat that is accomplished so well. The conversation between Travolta and Nolte was especially powerful as you hear the bombs in the distance.

I absolutely loved it..and don't get me started on the PQ and AQ! I made sure no one was home so I could "play it loud"!!

Can someone please remind me what all the controversy in Antichrist was about? I mean other than the title. I would like to know before I watch (if I want to watch) so use spoiler tags for the other people in the thread. But try not to give too much away please. Thanks!

Correctamundo!!! Check out the big brain on Brad!!!

No, but seriously, that is exactly what I was trying to say! One sentence just clarifies what the "B&N original selling price" should be.

I've been meaning to pick up For All Mankind and it's down to $22.49 on Amazon. I'm wondering if I should spend the extra buck to ensure I get it now or wait until Tuesday.

Days of Heaven and Walkabout from Netflix won’t load on my Sony.

Anyone have problems with this movie or any other criterion title?
