Monkey King 2 last night. 3D and visuals were excellent! Story and characters a little more bearable than the first. Hope the third one continues in the same direction.

Purchased 47 Ronin used with lenticular cover $11 on eBay. Read some of your reviews and thought it was worth a buy even though most official reviews panned it.

Hi okie,

You'll like this one. Very touching story and excellent 3D.

Originally had this anaglythic before getting a 3d set. It gave me headaches. Not so with this true 3d edition

Just watched Dark Country.

Excellent 3D with some really fun pop outs. A good overall production and the movie gets more interesting as it goes on. Cannot say anything more so will not give spoilers.

Hesitant to recommend one way or the other because the genre doesn't appeal to everyone. Glad it's part of my collection because of the 3D.

I really like this film a lot too. And, agree with Joe about it getting more interesting etc. Very nice 3D. The great stereographer Max Penner worked on several native 3D lower budget films in the first year or two of the modern boom and, like this one, I think they can all be relied on for some really good 3D. In case anyone doesn't know, the Turkish edition of this is the one to get (the French copy that I previously had was burdened with burned-in subtitles).

I have the region B. You can get around the French subtitles by watching it with the French audio. Or you can choose the commentary track if I recall correctly.

I just watched Dial M for Murder this morning. Good 3D but only a couple of pop-outs, unless you want to count the credits and intermission.

Had a chance to visit my parents tonight (78 and 77 years old), which has slowed down recently due to COVID. I figured what better time to break open TAZA and enjoy a nice Golden Age title.

It started off well, the scenery IMO is some of the best I've seen in 3D with real backdrops. I though the entire movie was framed well and up until Rock Hudson opened his mouth I thought this had a chance to become one of my favorite Golden Age titles.... sadly that changed rather quickly and I wasn't alone. My father walked out around the 25 minute mark as he couldn't take the acting, but my mother and I managed to get through the 80 minutes that felt more like 2 hours. Having been born in the 70's and not really having a grasp on the Golden Age at all, I don't pretend to know the politics and star power behind some of these actors and movies, but I couldn't help but think that Fernando Lamas wouldn't have been a much better TAZA. I'm also not very familiar with Hudson's work, but above and beyond his stiff acting, I found it annoying that he seemingly kept trying to make sure the right side of his face was the focal point to where his body language wasn't natural. I'm not sure if that was his signature move or his look, but I could have done without it.

Anyhow, the good news here is I'm going to seek out other Sirk movies as I'm rather fond of how he picked backdrops and framed each shot. Unfortunately the movie itself wasn't as memorable as I had hoped, but I am very happy to have had the opportunity to see this in 3D, and if I had to go back in time I'd buy it and sit through it again just for that experience. To be able to watch something that was before my time in the way it was meant to be seen is a nice privilege, and I'm thankful for that.

EDIT: I thought about it again this morning and I'm starting to think the reason he kept the right side of his face as the focus is probably because of the cut/scar? Maybe the director thought the audience needed to be reminded of that scar? It was just odd that the person he was talking to was facing left while Hudsons body would face the camera while his head was turned right. I've never seen anyone talk to someone like that in real life.

All are excellent in 3D. 'Mortal Engines' is terrific in 3D!

Watched World War Z. Great movie imo propped up by pretty good 3d that even included some eye-flinching pop-outs (though fast). Gave it a 9/10. I wish they'd make a sequel or prequel to this one somehow, but maybe not enough story to go on...

Well they were in pre production of a sequel with David Fincher of all people attached to direct. It's been canned though.
