Watched Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Pretty solid transfer and about as good as it will most likely look due to the source.

I felt quite mixed, it was good, but at no stage was I scared and I guessed within five minutes that they would be burried on top of a graveyard. I also found the tv references and use completely usless and the script could have been tighter. I did find it amusing how scared the little boy was at the start when he had an Alien poster up in his room. The transfer was quite good but had quite a few blemishes, but there was no sign of dnr or any other ugly post processing. for the trasnfer and quite a good film.

Well, might not be a 'Purchase' yet, but my Mum was going down to Auckland today, so I asked to her to pick me up Sherlock Holmes Metal/Iron Pack, but JbHiFi told her its not out till tomorrow... last I heard she was going to ask if they could just get it out the back and sell it today... fingers crossed.. save me a trip to Aucks.

Edit: BAH! people in the store cried and said it would be 'Illegal' to sell it... even though from that very store, I bought Terminator Salvation almost a week before the release date.

Well that whole Lord of the Rings freak sale on Sunday may have been a sham as I've just received a cancellation email with no reason for cancellation included. Also, the seller seems to no longer be listed. Fortunately my card has not been charged. Strange this is though, on Sunday I got a dispatch notification saying it had been posted...

Edit: What you said mate. I had the same thing happen, but I'm 90% sure my card has been charged for it. I've written to the seller asking for a reason, but I'm frankly amazed sellers can cancel transactions at their leisure like this.

Is your card showing a change in available balance but not actual balance? If so, mine's the same and I suggest to check after tomorrow morning once our banks open as I suspect that will have changed back. Amazon's standard practice is to provisionally charge so it shows as affecting your available balance, but normally the actual charge doesn't go through until about 2-3 days after shipping so your actual balance is not affected until this time.

If that's all it is I wouldn't be too worried. If you're seeing the actual transaction listed... well that's a different story.

My current bank details every transaction as a purchase authorisation for a couple of days, but at any time I have only one balance available to me (although I used to be with the CBA, and I remember them having the two). My understanding is that it takes a day or two for the transfer to actually occur, at which point it shows up as a proper transaction.

And yeah, it's still at the purchase authorisation stage, so I would therefore expect that charge to disappear within a day or so (and then have my account's balance be refunded). If it doesn't, then I will definitely be in touch with them.

Oh yeah, and most other sellers are letting that boxset go at around the 30 pound mark. It was definitely one of those "too good to be true" deals.

^ I think it'll be down near that price soon enough. Just look at how much other trillogy box sets go for. Though in this case I think it was some douche trying to scam themeselves some money, which amazon seems to have prevented.

Watched: Up in the Air.

Movie: 4/5
[Show spoiler](the final act, whilst terrific for most characters, almost turns one main character into a plot device which is a shame giving how good the film is up untill then).

PQ: 4.5/5 - details are sharp and there are no pesky post processing tools applied that I saw.
AQ: 4/5 - mostly dialogue driven, but everything is well produced and ambient sounds are excellent.
Special features - I don't care for them usually but I watched the deleted scenes and they where enjoyable (sieng how the film could have been different).
Overall: 4.5/5 - This films is well worthwhile looking into, and the transfer quality makes it an easy recommendation for a blind buy for those who have yet to see it.

Watched yesterday: Did the Rambo marathon and watched the Ultimate Rambo Collection. The first three films had some fairly reasonable transfers on them given they were early transfers originally done for HD-DVD. Some really good shots. Rambo was great though, I actually missed that one in theatres so this was my first watch of that film. Good to see Rambo was back to his old ways. Kinda glad they aren't going ahead with the 5th now as the fourth was a good ending.

Today I've watched Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The DNR is pretty obvious in this one. While there are obvious benefits of the HD transfer, the DNR does spoil it a bit. The sound was much better. From word of mouth this and Trek 6 are the worst so I'll see how I go. Sitting down to do The Voyage Home now.

Anything you can particularly recommend to a semi-passionate Trekkie (passionate enough to go pay money to meet one of the series' cast members)? I have #8, First Contact, along with the new movie.

I thought about buying #4 and #6 (and to a lesser extent, #2), but today's special effects have spoiled me, and having watched my dvds of them hundreds of times, it would feel like I were buying them just for the sake of buying them.
