That review has me more pumped for this release then ever!
And yet lots of people had scratches on their Indy discs....

For a long time I never had scratches with this type of packaging. The packaging always worried me though, and now I have a two minor scratches on my Raiders disc that were not there in the beginning and this is only after two removals from the sleeve. I have always handled my discs with care and I found the Raiders disc was hard to remove from a tight sleeve. I always suspected that the reports of scratches were true, but they just never happened to me until Raiders. I've never liked this sort of packaging as it's nothing more than a lame, cheap alternative to a regular plastic case, which by the way is tried and true idea that works.

I like the Alien and Star Wars sets because they at least allow you to grab the center of the disc and the edge, so you're not pulling it out with fingertips the way you do with the Indy set. Very little chance of scratching there. Sadly this Uni Monsters box is like the Indy set in terms of the packaging, and what's worse, there's stickiness on the edge of the discs as I wrote before. Double check the glue factor when you crack open your copy.

No scratches on my Indy discs yet but I did have one upon delivery that DID affect playback, as minor as it may have seemed. I am getting a review copy of the Monsters set, but I am tempted to keep my pre-order just to double my chances of having a complete set that will work properly!

Ended up ordering the standard UK set for $55 shipped. I cannot believe the US set is going for $111! This is unaceptable and a slap on the face for US customers!

When I first got the Legacy Collection of The Mummy a few years ago, I extracted the audio from "The Mummy Archives" special feature (it's a slideshow with a sort of suite of the film's music), and still have it. I listen to it often--great piece!

(Disclaimer: I would totally buy a soundtrack were it available.)

I have two questions regarding this set:

1) Will the Phillip Glass score on Dracula be lossless, and 5.1?

2) Will The Creature From The Black Lagoon be 1.33:1 or 1.78:1? And which version, 2D or 3D or both?

Just super curious! Easily my most anticipated set of this year! I love Uni's Monsters!

Not sure on the Glass score. I asked the same question earlier. But Creature will be 16x9 with 2D and 3D available.

That's going to be neat! I just checked IMDb and it says that Creature was shot at 2.0:1. Is this acurate? If so... man, we've been missing out for years!

I did not have this in my Budget, mostly because my expectations were not high on it. But after reading how great the films all look I have to work it in someone. May get the UK version.

I am sure this has been asked before and I am sorry if its a repeat question I am just to lazy/dont have the time at the moment to look through all the pages in this thread is there a difference between the UK coffin set and the UK standard set. Does the standard set still come with all the posters and book that the coffin set does? Thanks in advance as I will for the forst time be buying the UK set instead of the USA one as the USA one is outrageously priced

Here's a stupid question I'm sure I know the answer to, but if I were to order the UK set will I have any problems playing them in the US? Will I be able to play the special features as well? I don't want to spend the money on it if I can't play the whole thing on my Sony BD player or my LG BD player.

The U.K. version is Region Free. Most of (if not all) the Universal U.K. Blu ray titles are playable in the U.S.

Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection [Blu-ray] [1931][Region Free]

I think you are just paying for the coffin. It looks like everything else is the same.

Also, does anyone know how much it will be shipped? The coffin set is about $71 before shipment.

I'm more interested in what the third reel of the spanish dracula looks like since that every other release has an inferior copy from the scene where Dracula bids Renfield good night all the way to the scene at the theater.

Don't they offer free shipping? I was going back and forth between the American set and the UK coffin set for a while, but made the final decision on the American set for two reasons:

1. For everything you are getting the price still is pretty fair
2. With all due respect to England, I would rather keep an American employed

I went with the UK set. $50 is way too much to overlook.

Well, in my case, I'm kinda compulsive, and like all my movies to be original, domestic releases. I'm not crazy about importing, no matter what.

Also I got it for free from Columbia House, so price isn't an issue.
