Jesus, why do they insist on constantly shafting me??? I emailed them to ask why today's releases were still back-ordered in my order when they were listed as in-stock on the main page and others who had placed their orders after I had were already receiving shipping notices, and this was the response:

Like you, I don't mind putting up with a few inconveniences or glitches now and then if it means getting these releases at such a good price, but this has now gotten utterly ridiculous. I have had zero pre-orders arrive without hassle in 2013. Despite ordering the day pre-orders go live on their site, I get repeated cancellations while others folks get theirs processed and sent out no problem. ![]() Even my March re-orders took three weeks to ship and then good ol' DHL delivered them to Compton where they sat for five days before moving out today. Yeah, I'm whining.....I want my China Gate ![]() |

Yup, it seems the more you spend and the more frequent a customer you are, the shabbier your orders are treated! I've also had two consecutive orders of the same items cancelled, and still have yet to receive the rest of the 3/27 titles. I re-ordered the 4/30 titles today (the VERY last time I will do so) and asked them to upgrade my shipping to compensate for their repeated failings, and they told me that they don't offer any other form of shipping (besides their insane 2-week plus DHL option). First time I've ever heard of that. No other offers were forthcoming from them. I also told them how aggravating it was that my earlier order was ignored (and eventually cancelled) while newer orders of identical titles were being filled and shipped, and pointed out that proper and typical customer service dictates that identical orders be shipped out in the order they are received, but that part of my email went unaddressed. From now on I'm going to place my orders four days or so before release date, as clearly those who order earliest will get screwed again and again. Have they ever provided any kind of explanation for their arbitrary 28 day cancellation 'policy', which is done automatically by their computer without their conscious knowledge and in a system completely unconnected to their website? I'm sure people have complained time and time again and had to re-place orders and receive partial refunds, and yet the same mindless machinery is in place. Who was the idiot who devises this 'system', and who is the idiot who refuses to abandon it?

Well, I haven't received any shipping confirmation for NIGHT OF THE SCARECROW (or Castle Freak for that matter) yet. Should I bother with a "reminder" email?
This is a very customer un-friendly company and poorly run. Perhaps they should close down if they're not interested in selling movies. |

Importcds's "ships in 24 hours" is a load of crap. I ordered 23 Olive titles, all in stock, on Monday and none have even been allocated. In the past, as soon as you placed the order it would show them allocated. They haven't even responded to my email. Good prices but crappy service and shipping

got my shipping notice for my most recent order!!
WOO-HOO!! ![]() on a related note--I really hate reading about the various problems some people have been having with importcds because imo they have always been a very dependable website. I wouldn't have recommended using them if I had not previously had nothing but excellent experiences using them. I really think if people would just focus on ordering items that show "in stock" there would not be near the number of issues that people are having. The whole pre-ordering thing is great when the distributors get the stock to the vendors on time, but when there is any type of delay it seems like chaos ensues. It is a known fact that Olive Films is currently experiencing problems with their manufacturer making street dates. So I would highly recommend ONLY placing orders for IN STOCK items for the time being. just my 2 cents. ![]() Last edited by Arkadin; 05-01-2013 at 04:55 PM. |

That will be my approach from here on out, although I will place future orders two days before release date, in order to ensure that they at least ship on release date. Plus I still get the minor pre-order savings that way. Regardless, my next order will not be until their sale in June.

In case anyone is interested, my order from DeepDiscount shipped via USPS, not DHL, even though both DD and importcds are owned by the same company. However, my order has been sitting in Compton for six days. So either way, it looks like if you order from either company, you'll be waiting for a while to get your order.

Yesterday I watched my copy of Orson Welles' Macbeth from Olive and it's truly stunning. I possibly prefer it to Kane and Touch of Evil as far as Welles films go. The black and white cinematography is incredibly beautiful and Olive's transfer is incredible - while it is very much "warts and all" complete with numerous speckles and hairs in the gate, the detail is exceptional and it truly feels like seeing the film projected. Welles' incredibly long takes are immensely captivating and it makes for a fine thriller aswell as a faithfully grandoise adaptation. With the Blu-Ray you can see the highlights in the characters eyes really pop against the often chiaroscuro lighting.
This is my first Olive Blu-Ray and I'm very impressed. Considering that this film has a fairly average transfer score on this site, is it reasonable to expect that other films from Olive will have transfers that I will enjoy as much or more? I think it's great that they're releasing archive films at reasonable prices as is. |

I received this response a while ago. I'm OK with the rest of my order being cancelled as there was only 1 other title, Castle Freak, which I didn't expect them to carry anyway. But since I paid with Paypal now I have to go through the process of getting a refund.

Crashout looks like a pretty decent heist/prison break film, with a nice cast of familiar 'B guys' (and gals) - William Bendix, Arthur Kennedy, Gene Evans, Marshall Thompson, and Gloria Talbot. Shark isn't a Fuller I'm familiar with - I'm assuming it's a pretty generic flick?

Ive never heard of any of them, but Crashout sounds like one to check out. The big one for me is Beware My Lovely which should be sooner or later with the Noir titles coming out here and there. There are 4 more Noir titles from their insert ( Cry Vengeance, Cry Danger, Try & Get Me and Beware My Lovely) ...so one of these days Ill get the one I want and check out the others. I like Noir films although the ones from the 1950s werent as good (Generally speaking)

SHARK is decent - it stars Burt Reynolds and has shown up on a couple of substandard PD releases. Will surely be worth an upgrade from Olive. A real stuntman during filming was killed by one of the sharks, too, and apparently that was caught on film, but I don't recall the footage being used in the film itself.
