Rei 2 (the middle one) isn't quite as reserved as her main-universe counterpart from Episodes 1-23, but is basically cast as the "normal" classmate. She doesn't take part in the shenanigans that Shinji and Asuka sometimes get into (like the classic "playing baseball with the cleaning supplies when the teacher is out" trope).

Rei 3 (left) is pretty much like the alternate Rei from Episode 26, while Rei 1 (right) is portrayed as a quiet little girl. They all live together in the same house, interestingly enough.

IMO the last two episodes would have been fine had they not been the conclusion to the series. I feel like its an unsatisfying finale to such a monumental show.

Yeah, I know, the movie is supposed to fix that. Well the movie also isn't a part of the regular series and wasn't included in the previous disc set that I purchased either.

Well there’s the ADV Films Dub for the episodes, Funimation’s for the Rebuild Movies which is mostly the same as ADV’s but with some cast changes and the Netflix Dub.

Everyone asks the question, but the answer will still be wait some more.

I’m more towards the older ones over Netflix’s. But that’s just me. Though the ADV Films Dub might be lost forever. So it mostly comes down to the Rebuild movies or the original series with the new Netflix Dub unless you want to hunt down the old ADV DVDs.

You'll have to track down copies of the old ADV DVDs if you want to watch the series with the original dub, there's no legal streaming for it atm. I'd go with watching the Netflix dub. I recently completed a rewatch with the ADV dub and it was okay but nothing to write home about. Very cheesy and obviously a 90s dub, on par with the old school episodes of 4Kids Pokemon dub. I'll give my breakdown of which voice actor I prefer for the major characters. You can't go wrong with either dub but Netflix has my vote.

Shinji: This is the only one that I can't decide on but I'm leaning more toward Spike Spencer. Casey Mongillo is good but I feel like they only have one tone for Shinji. I found myself enjoying Spencer's voice more but if you watch this comparison of Shinji's scream in EoE, I'd give it to Casey. A definite standout for me:

[Show spoiler]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6HXiE58btA

Asuka: 100% Stephanie McKeon (Netflix), no competition. I like certain lines of Asuka's dialogue more in the ADV dub but Stephanie is the perfect Asuka. Tiffany Grant sounds way too old to be Asuka. Tiffany greatly improved in the Rebuild movies though, I'll give her that. Stephanie's voice is the one that I hear when I think of Asuka and that'll never change now that I've formed an attachment to it lol.

Rei: Brina Palencia (Rebuild). I didn't care for Amanda Winn Lee. Not much else to say about this one.

Misato: Carrie Keranen (Netflix). Allison Keith sounds good in the ADV dub but I can't stand her voice in the Rebuild movies. She sounds kind of raspy and similar to Tiffany Grant, far too old to be voicing Misato.

Kaji: Greg Chun (Netflix). Aaron Krohn sounds too goofy to be Kaji in the ADV dub, can't take him seriously. This is the same with Shinji's classmates, they are horrendous in the original dub, complete trash.

So yeah... pretty much Netflix no debate. I didn't grow up with the ADV dub and had no prior nostalgic attachment, so this was an easy one.

There's a Japanese box set, but it doesn't have English subtitles:

Also, I recommend you watch the show in its original language. While I haven't seen whole episodes with either dubs, I have seen some comparisons of both and they're nowhere near as good as the original.

I feel your frustration. I've been using the Facebook buy and sell of late. I was selling a drawer set. I included the dimensions in the description of the item. Still got people messaging me asking me how big it was.

Whats up with the pronunciations in the old dub of EoE? Eva are pronounced "evvah" instead of "ay-vah" and Shinji pronounces Kaworu all weird. The weird blood splat sound effects. Video quality is complete trash too. This is in desperate need of a Blu-ray release.

After a couple days of further digestion with the final two episodes and End of Evangelion I'm beginning to revert a little more to back where I started (in it being a bit overrated). I liked the show when we were were on an action-adventure mecha romp in post apocalyptic Japan with all of our buddies. Sorry, but I don't buy
[Show spoiler]everybody getting killed or murdered in the end by each other, including all of Nerv, Misato, and Ritsuko by Gendo. The tone shifts too dramatically. Followed by all of the psycho babble masquerading as something deep and philosophical. It also spends too much time in the abstract, exploring what amounts to relatively simple (to explain or depict on-screen) social concepts of abandonment, acceptance, plus adolescence. I think that the execution of most of the ending is quite messy, no matter how hard I tried to like it. Shinji and Asuka are almost entirely insufferable during the last two episodes plus the movie. They're not the same characters we knew during episodes 1-24. There was a huge tonal shift, and uneven storytelling.

I like most psychological thrillers too. But I believe that this one was poorly executed near the end, and tries hard to make you hate all the characters that you love.

Still it's an excellent series. I can separate the stuff I like from the stuff I dislike. Very rarely is an anime double arc a perfect roller coaster ride with no flaws.

A bit overrated? That doesn't compute. Wait...Uh...You're under arrest!

LOL!

I think that a lot of our media is very good, yet overrated. Like the current comic book movie craze for example. Fandom takes over and then insanity ensues.

In all seriousness I can understand why someone would see Asuka and Shinji as insufferable. (I kind of like em that way personally). I also can't claim to understand what you termed as psychobabble. Perhaps I enjoy things I don't understand because it makes it more mysterious (this is coming from someone who reads a lot of Jung, a thinker I can't wrap my head around because he makes a dizzying amount of associations between ideas).

I can feel you on the comic book craze. I like the MCU but I have never been in love with it. Except Spider-man...I do love Spidey.

BTW. Can you give specific examples of what you mean by psychobabble?
