This thread has gone off topic long enough I would think. A mod should have tended to this by now.

My response to Jim's blathering had nothing to do with Sony, but rather his ridiculous essay-length posts and his unconditional defending of Nintendo's silence on the NX, a product that's supposed to launch in six months and we still know nothing about it.

Well on topic that's Nintendo's mistake IMO.

Your right that March is just around the corner so you'd think Nintendo would want to spark some interest in the actual unit other then letting the net run wild with blind rumours.

For me what's gonna make/break the deal on this thing will be the controller. If it's 90% gimmick & 10% gamer, screw em.

The thing that gets me is Myamoto claims the reason why Nintendo is waiting so long to unveil the NX is they are afraid of the competition wanting to copy what they're doing. ROTFLMAO!! First of all Nintendo, don't flatter yourself! I seriously doubt neither Sony nor MS are the least bit interested in copying whatever the hell it is you're doing. Second, even if they were interested, it's not like they would be able to put anything in place in 6 months to quell your hype. Companies are like 18-wheelers barreling down a highway at 65 mph. They can't just re direct on a dime and suddenly change their whole business model. Even Sony's and MS' answers to the Wii took what? Three years to come out after the Wii launched? And both the Move and the Kinect were claimed to be in development well before that and neither put a dent in the Wii's success.

Personally I think it's just another example of Nintendo being completely out of touch with modern day gaming, not understanding the importance of building hype and properly marketing their products (probably because they're too cheap to spend the money to do so). If Nintendo waits too much longer and decides to unveil the NX in a freaking Direct, they will garner absolutely no hype for it before it even launches.

That's a narrow way of thinking though and I really can't believe you'd throw up your hands and say it's a stretch that MS/SONY would want to copy. If they were worried about hacking something together quickly to combat waggle, imagine if it's something much more desirable this time. They'll copy. Also yes, there's lead times to get something to shelves but if this product really is something different, Nintendo will want that market to itself for as long as possible before the copy cats come in. An extra 6-12 months is millions of units in potential sales.

Why does it matter how something is unveiled? Whether it's a direct or event the press and gaming sites will pick up on it and there goes the publicity train. Why spend millions to have a special event? You can't tell me the event SONY had for the Pro made anybody any more excited for that product than a PS blog entry. In fact I'd actually say that particular revel event was a bomb.

thats quite different. The Pro was not a brand new console. It was a revision and never should have had its own event. Sony had it backwards. A brand new console however does warrant an event. I think the point of that would be to actually showcase the system and the games to people that can play and write about it, not just comment to some edited video that Nintendo puts up.

Why would they want to copy? Both the PS4 and to a lesser extent, the X1 are killing it with what they're already doing. Nintendo is the one here in need of a "hail mary" to get back to relevance in the gaming industry. That's why I said "don't flatter yourself" because I don't think Nintendo's competition is paying nearly as much attention to them as Mr. Miyamoto thinks they are. Personally I don't think either Sony or MS are devoting that much effort worrying about what Nintendo is doing. I think they both know their audiences and are focused on what they want to bring to the industry. I seriously doubt either one of them are sweating bullets over the whole hybrid concept.

I won't argue with you about the Pro event. That was dreadful. However there was nothing wrong with having it per se. That isn't what hurt it. It was the execution and messaging. There was no energy, no excitement, and what Sony should have done was focus more on the PERFORMANCE advantages of the Pro rather than the fact that it would support 4K. Also, surely you can see the difference in magnitude between unveiling a mid-gen re-design of the same console and unveiling a brand new console. The bottom line is Nintendo NEEDS the NX to be a big success and I don't see how they do that by some small Direct unveil where only diehard Nintendo fans pay attention to it. Yes word of mouth will trickle out and media outlets will relay the message but if Nintendo is truly wanting to get the attention of casuals again, they're going to have to market this damn thing aggressively.

Sony's good. If Pro bombs they'll fall back on Slim. PSVR fails. So we already know that won't last. Anyone serious in VR will get Oculus or Vive.

I dunno what type of numbers they want from the thing though as most will view the console as a 4K gaming machine & well most don't have that display. Good luck convincing folk you benefit from Pro on 1080p displays. I know it does but average joe will right that sh!t off.

An official name for NX might help. seriously they need marketing & Nintendo having more bank then the entire Sony Corp. is them being as cheap as humanly possible.

I just heard what I think is THE best theory to the name "NX" and what the final name might be.

The NX will be Nintendo's 10th system (not counting the crappy Virtual Boy that Nintendo doesn't even acknowledge and the Game Boy offshoots like GBA and GBC). Since X is the Roman numeral for 10 and N would be short for Nintendo, the codename NX could actually be referencing the "Nintendo 10." The final name could very well be called the... wait for it...

the "Nintendo" but it could actually be spelled "NIN-10-DO."

I dont see why the GBA wouldnt be counted considering it was a different beast than the original Gameboy released in 1989. Thats kind of a stretch to try and force a square into a triangle shaped hole

Crap you're right. I was thinking the GBA was just a re design of the GBC but it actually had more powerful hardware inside and had specific games made for it.

Heh, so here we are another week another no show, it seems every day is going to be the day we finally find out what NX will be called and look like. In the meantime it seems everyones getting pretty crazy in every Nintendo thread around the interwebs.
