It is my fav action movie of all time, so no brainer for me

I felt it was a little dark. I have my Sony picture settings optimized for UHD discs, and actually had to take it off of my custom settings. Both Standard and Cinema Pro looked much better. This is the ONLY disc in my collection that I can say this about.

Oh man, Grease looks T.E.R.R.I.B.L.E but at least it sounds better than it has in years.

Agree. Thomas Crown is also McTiernan's most beloved of all of his films. No Die Hard, no Predator, no Red October.

I love this screenplay. There's so much I get from it each time I watch it.

I love that Holly puts John's picture down. Not only a beat that tells us the audience that their relationship is rocky, but is also a plot point later on when Hans finds out that her and John are married.

I also love that when Tagaki gets shot, Karl gives Theo money, like they had a bet on whether or not Tagaki would give up the codes. It's never mentioned, just shown.

He is wrong then.
Maybe he needs to go back to prison and be forced to watch Red October on a loop.

It's weird when you look at what he wrote/directed after this....

Watching the UHD (liked the picture quality, did not love it ... but there is noticeable improvement) reminded me what an amazing villain Hans Gruber was, and maybe why none of the sequels were able to match the original.

I can't stay mad at the guy who came up with 'Bison dollars'!

They make a typical mistake -- it isn't the appeal of the villain, it's the appeal of the story. You get a great story, everything else falls into place and then you can have fun plussing up the characters.

Story, story, story....you don't have a great story, you don't have a great movie. Unless you're off-the-charts with visuals and ideas, but brother, you better be off-the-charts with visuals and ideas if you don't have a story.

To be fair I think it's silly fun, that Hudson, dredd and Ricochet I enjoy.
This tho, this I cannot forgive.

I still watch that movie from time to time because of Raul Julia (and to a lesser extent the guy who played Zangief). Julia was just so over the top and funny, and De Souza fed him some great lines.

"The road not taken. But why? Why do they still call me a warlord? And mad? All I want to do is to create the perfect genetic soldier! Not for power, not for evil, but for good. Carlos Blanka will be the first of many - they shall march out of my laboratory and sweep away every adversary, every creed, every nation, until the very planet is in the loving grip of the Pax Bisonica. And then peace will reign, and the world, and all humanity, shall bow to me in humble gratitude."

"All I want to do is rule the world, is that so much to ask?"

"Tell you what. After I've crushed my enemies, we'll see about getting you published."

And of course:

"For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday."

I actually enjoyed Street Fighter. I didn't see it until about 4 years ago, and I was pleasantly surprised.
It's campy fun!

Wish I would’ve known Die Hard 4k was $18 at Walmart, would’ve saved me a couple bucks. Didn't even think about checking there before ordering it online.

I see the review makes mention of the stretched fox logo at the beginning of the movie and the link credits it to an assistant editor's mistake. I'm sure I hear or read somewhere that McTiernan was responsible for that as a way of getting back at Fox for not allowing him to shoot Predator in anamorphic.

Oh and, don't all shout at me, but am I reading it right that the BD included with this is not a BD of the new 4k remaster, but the same old BD disc?

Yes, it's the old disc. But given how SDR 1080p downconverts of new HDR 4K masters seem to come out looking a bit shit (CE3K, Matrix, Unforgiven) then I'm not sure that it's a bad thing that there's no remastered Blu!

Doesn't the current Blu-ray already look like the recent remastered Blu-rays with super blown out highlights and all that? A remastered one couldn't have been much worse.

Have you seen the new Matrix BD? Those blown out highlights in the old Die Hard disc have got nuthin' on that one!
