My copy was out for delivery on Saturday but the mailman decided he didn't want to leave the comfort of his truck to deliver it so I can't comment on the PQ but I did watch an unboxing video. That is the stupidest packaging I've yet to see and I've seen my fair share. Usually those cardboard gatefolds are what you find inside a slipcase or other outer packaging but all Lionsgate could up with was a J card? Holy smokes did they drop the ball here. That flimsy cardboard is going to fall apart within days - what was LG thinking? The Blu-ray set had a nice hard case (at least the Collector's Edition did) so why backtrack for this 4K upgrade?

Agree. Nearly every 4k UHD release comes with a useless slipcover except for the one package that actually needs it, Apocalypse Now.

With all the cover art travesties and illogical packaging decisions, 4k UHD really has turned out to be a physical packaging clustf--k of a format.

Sorry to hear that, I work for USPS, and we absolutely have to deliver packages to the door if they won't fit in the mailbox (unless a specific reason like no access or dog interference, etc). Like you said, he didn't do his job.

If it were me, you would be enjoying the film as you should have on Sat lol.

I looked at a few scenes of the remastered BD last night comparing them to the UHD. On the BD, you can definitely see highlights missing and almost a bit of that over-brightness with whites especially in the scene when the Playboy bunnies are leaving in the helicopter during the event - the water reflections, lights, etc. One of the dancers just looked too bright. Grain is less defined on the BD as would be expected from lower resolution but I wondered about the encoding as well. Some of this is just common with these newer SDR conversions. I no longer have the original BD to compare, but my memory tells me this new BD is still an overall improvement for the color alone.

Why do people keep saying things like this? There have been fantastic photography cameras and lenses (and high quality film) for many decades now. Modern film (digital aside) has not improved greatly in the more recent past. Lenses have seen great advances over the decades, but the ones 50 years ago were no slouches.

I saw a photographic print yesterday from an 8x10 glass plate that was over 100 years old, and the detail was fantastic.

Indeed. I'm one of those old-timers that still responds to something modern/digital with the compliment: "that was beautiful; looks like it was shot on film!"

Anyone else get their copy early? I had pre-ordered it from Wal-Mart and at 9am this morning in my driveway there it was. Was surprised as it said it wouldn't arrive until August 29th.

FedEx dropped mine off at 9am this morning. Wasn't expecting it until 8/29 and it's not released until tomorrow but there it was...middle of my driveway and had I not saw it, I would've drove over the damn things. FedEx ALWAYS leaves packages in the driveway. If not the driveway, up against the garage door where I can easily back out over it...and have before.

Just got mine delivered by regular mail - once again, Bull Moose comes through.

It's a shame this was released with no outer box or printed booklet. IMHO, this one still sets the standard:

Tyrok (BBY employee) has already shown pics of in-store copies.
https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...9&postcount=25

Another BBY employee has confirmed his store had at least 7 and several nearby stores at least a dozen

Interesting. So is there a detailed rundown of all the changes anywhere? Because all I'd heard up until now made it sound like it's basically the Redux with two scenes cut (the bunnies and reading from Time Mag), but it looks like that's not the case.

I have digipaks that are over 20 years old and still holding together fine. Just like how people moan about steelbooks getting damaged, wtf are they doing to them? Sure, if you throw stuff around and treat it like garbage it'll get damaged, but normal wear and tear aside, I've never had issues with either of those formats (except a broken hub on my Dexter S3 DVD digipak from when I dropped it on a hardwood floor, but that's my own fault for having been a clumsy oaf).

My problem with digipaks is what happens when they're on the way to me, not how I treat them once I have them. They are prone to getting dented up and the trays smashed in transit. I've had some with smashed disc hubs when you open them up, it's not like you can just replace a case. Swapping a tray is nearly impossible without damaging the card underneath. Certainly not importing this one, the chances of it crossing the atlantic without damage are slim. I'll wait a few weeks for the local release and either buy in store or get the steelbook (providing the discs aren't stacked on the same hub as in the bloody stupid French Dunkirk steelbook).
