Hey guys, could you please cool it down or take it to PM?

I'd really like to get back to discussing the actual contents of the set.

That's just stupid and ignorant.

The difference between Tolkien rewriting a bit of The Hobbit after doing Lord of the Rings and George Lucas altering the Star Wars movies is that you can still read that first version of The Hobbit. Didn’t it just recently get a new publication?

The only way to watch the unaltered versions of Star Wars is via third parties (whether you find those 2007 DVDs on the aftermarket or download a fan restoration or some other means).

Personally I’ve long gotten over the fact that we’ll most likely never get official high-quality releases of the unaltered originals (mainly because of the aforementioned ways of viewing them) but it is a shame that the originals can’t exist along with the altered versions.

I never see fans clamoring for the original edition to be published. They just accept that the creator had to make changes on his previous work.

Somehow with movies, this is some huge no/no for a small fraction of fans.

It is stupid and childish. Lucas has every right to make changes and keep the changes moving forward. End of story. Grow up.
Not that I disagree that the creator can do as he likes. I'll just place this https://www.amazon.com/Hobbit-Facsimile-Gift-Tolkien-author/dp/0008259542 facsimile edition here.

I had the facsimile on order for I think 8 years and it just kept being put back again and again. I was so excited to finally own a copy of the original text.

You want the original version? Well then, you must be a whiney, self-entitled man-baby.

You know what's worse than someone wishing for something they want but can't have? Someone who just poops all over everything, complaining about complainers and just saying mean spirited dick shit.

Is someone stopping you from discussing it, or do you just want everyone else to just shut up and discuss what you want, while you read what they write about it?

I'd like people to remain polite and civil regardless of the topic at hand.
Enough with labeling others entitled or ignorant for not sharing a viewpoint. Agree to disagree and move on.

This type of juvenile back-and-forth is way too common here. It creates an unpleasant atmosphere in what should otherwise generally be a pleasant place for members to visit during their off hours.

I honestly wasn't trying to be a jerk, I'm just naturally a bit of a smart-ass, and I guess without any context, I could've came across that way. I'm just saying you could instigate a conversation about the things that you're interested in by discussing them.

I have no idea what bonus material might be included in this set.

Same. As soon as it was finally available I snapped it up, and that's the difference with SW which some people remain blissfully ignorant of. No-one's saying George can't **** up Star Wars however he likes, but just provide the original version to go with it (in good quality, not some haggard old Laserdisc cast-off) and the kvetching would cease overnight.

The cost of this set is ludicrous, they're pricing it as if the Star War series has 20 films.
Guess I'll just grabbed a used copy of the first release and hope the newer restorations of the OT come out individually.

I probably wouldn't hate the "special editions" nearly as much if the changes weren't so goddamn sloppy. Like the obvious copy-pasting of one X-Wing for the added Yavin shots, or the massive continuity goofs introduced by the windows in Cloud City and the utterly pointless extension of the outer door of Jabba's palace, or the horrendously clumsy continued butchery of the Greedo scene... that stuff is far more offensive than some CGI muppets or Vader's "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" .

I think you'll be happy to know that Adywan's Revisited versions fixed the X-Wings and Cloud City windows. Needless to say, he also made Han shoot first.

Apart from the greedo scene, my opinion would be the complete opposite of yours, because the complaints you've made are just slight scenery changes that dont affect the tone or emotion of the scene.

Whereas cgi muppets/change of song, & Vaders noooooo, does affect the tone & emotion of a scene. And it's changes that do that, that im more bothered about.

We all have our own reasons for wanting things left alone. Which is why both versions should be available, the meddled ones for those who want to kiss Lucas's arse as if he's some kind of genius who can do no wrong, and the originals for those of us who appreciate them for what they are, warts and all.

I skimmed through some of Star Wars '77 on Disney Plus and remembered how crappy the new special effects look. The scene with all the X-Wings heading towards the Death Star looks so much faker without the practical models, and something is seriously messed up with Luke's lightsaber. The video quality is nice, but this thing is still unwatchable.

The Phantom Menace looks nicer than I expected, though. I love the new colors and added clarity. I may just get the prequels and skip everything else.

Disney Plus is such a better service than Netflix in terms of video quality, and the app actually triggers HDR on my 900e, unlike the Netflix one.
