This is very frustrating for me to find out the discs themselves are a bit borked. First my case comes in warped in the front side (possible due to heat) and now this... What an absolute joke... Here's hoping Warner actually does something. This isnt the only MGM release to have audio shifting issues either; Olives Rock-a-doodle Blu had the same issue. I feel like there's some others as well.

Shame as I was going to start seeing the films today and this weekend. Rocky 1 and the Bonus disc are perfectly fine, but ROCK II/III/IV are all scratched up. Odd since they were in place in the case, not as if the discs were lose and flying around in the case.
Had to contact Amazon and ship it back for a refund. I'll order it again, but I hope the next set is scratch free. |

As for audio, it's no surprise they have screwups since MGM likely did edits/additional work on the tracks since the HD masters used for the BDs. Also, it's true MGM did tons of pitch corrected tracks for 25fps masters (mainly for use on the MGM HD channels in Europe) and then whoever just converted them back to 24fps without realizing the pitch anomaly.
RE: Rocky 1. The 2.0 is def stereo when the original mix was mono, but the audio revisions didn't start for the BD. In 1978, Rocky was reissued in anticipation for II. They did a six-track mag remix for the (very few) 70mm blow up runs made, while select 35mm prints had a Dolby Stereo LRCS mixdown of the six-track. Most releases have the mono in compacity but ones starting with the later AC3 Laserdiscs and the 2001 DVD have a direct port of the 1978 6-track mix (also carried over to modern releases). I believe some older video releases have a 2.0 folddown of the Dolby Stereo remix, with the UHD being the first to have it in years. Sucks but in a way it's original and not a sloppy revsionist job like say T1 As for the missing music cue, that was probably an error made from the 1978 six-track since the 2.0/Dolby Stereo are derived from the same mix. |

As for II, III, IV, they were native Dolby Stereo LRCS. They also had 6-track mag mixes made for 70mm runs, which have been the basis for modern 5.1 representations.
That's not to say MGM did some adjustments to the 5.1s since the AC3 LD and DVD releases that first featured them. Also, the 2.0 on Rocky II is indeed the original Dolby Stereo LRCS, despite being low pitched due to being timed to a pitch corrected 25fps master. |

Anyway to reach out to Stallone via social media? Maybe he can speed up the recall process.

Even if it did, I'm not sure I'd call that "original" any more than the 1979 six-track remix of The Exorcist. Still, very interesting if that's what happened. Last edited by BNex99; 03-04-2023 at 05:00 AM. |

I don't talk about it here because nobody cares about dubs in an "english speaking" forum I had to pitch correct tons of titles from Rain Man to The Silence of the Lambs... |
