I've never seen so many people upset over an opinion. Of course it's better if it aligns more w/ one's own view. right? isn't that how it works around here.

You seem to be the one upset in these threads bro. You don’t seem to understand that you can be critical of things that you like.

Imagine If Cameron was a regular contributor on here? some of you would have driven him off the board w/ incessant personal attacks and endless complaints, much like you did in driving away some that used to post from certain boutique labels. I hope the ones that still contribute stay, as I appreciate what they offer to the board.

Not upset, just sad how things always come down to the negative views always drowning out the light that some see in things. Life is too short, I choose to look for the positives these days.

Someone looks pretty upset. Being critical of things that you like is part of the process for improvement man.

Not always. Sometimes people complain just for the sake of getting attention.

BH has long been in a unique position in which he is one of the last ones standing of the the DVD era to remain active in the reviewing and advocating of physical media.

For and better and for worse, his opinions still retain influence within the Home Media community as being the elder statesman, as it were, even though his relevancy has diminished over the last decade or so.

The problem with his reviews does not lie with a manner in difference of opinion, the critical issue is that he has long made claims on matters of the fact that were proven wrong in the evaluation of the actual released product or later clarification by other or official sources.

There is nothing inherently wrong to be mistaken from time to time and being a proper professional means acknowledging those errors and correcting them.

What has been long a massive point of contention is when he has been proven wrong by the enthusiast community he refuses to admit fault and even doubles down.

This is why he detests methods of objective evaluation and examples because he perceives them as undermining his subjective authority.

It also does not help that he often tosses out some technical jargon to bolster his reviews but at times the inclusion of those things have been misrepresented or outright incorrect.

Further, he has a long history of sourcing breaking news from forum members without attribution and passes that information as "industry sources/rumors" or more vaguely the Home Media community in general.

The example of the LOTR fiasco is emblematic of these outstanding issues to which he creates derision and consternation.

He claimed that they were full 4K OCN rebuilds, then later the narrative changed to that it was just for the clean live action material and that no additional DNR was applied to the transfers.

Well the actual transfers exhibit additional DNR on top of whatever was cooked into the original 2K DIs, along with sharpening, and they did not receive full 4K rebuilds nor full live action OCN scans either.

The only thing I recall is that FOTR had some material rescanned for a more recent DI but otherwise these are 2K DI upscaled to 4auxK.

Then the digitally captured Hobbit Trilogy also received additional DNR and sharpening. WTALF?!?

Yet, BH still refuses to acknowledge that reality but he sure as flies on polished turds hates those in the community for proving him wrong.

He claimed that Titanic was having the OCN grain structure being truly revealed for the first with the newest 4K transfer. Well that has been proven wrong with stills from the OCN.

That there was no DNR, well that was also proven wrong.

The community sussed out that AI processing was involved before he received a different statement that Park Roads was using 'Deep Learning' algorithms to "bring out the truest and cleanest" OCN grain structure.

Alas that was not true either.

His update in the review does some wordsmithing to walk the line but never admit fault.

So yes, BH has some issues.

I just saw a post on that other forum that absolutely floored me.

" I'm not a film grain lover. So, when it's scrubbed away and the picture looks cleaner / sharper I'm very happy. I don't see grain in real life, so I don't want to see it while watching a movie"

wow.. just wow.

Sure, constructive criticism perhaps, but not the out-and-out venom that is often on display.
