I did update the front. For the most part if its complete and looks decent there really isnt much need to update it. (IMO) I know KaiGusto submitted hundreds of scans/entries then you resubmitted scans so it was double work for us, plus it undermines another members work. No probs. As I've said before I'm scanning them for my own custom database for reference at home so seeing as though I'm going to the trouble to do high quality scans, record all the specs, actors, directors etc it seems pointless for me to not submit them seeing as though I've done the groundwork. Whether you or Pro-B use them is entirely up to you.
I'm not trying to undermine anyone's work or create extra work for you. Seeing as though I have high quality gear and skills from a background in graphic design I can create scans representative of the actual product that are crystal clear and are legible all the way down to the copyright text (as sometimes the fine print has relevant info). If I see a title that either has no entry or an entry that has either no image, a poor scan, a low-res image, only one cover, an incorrect cover (eg some UK titles have the US covers) or incorrect/incomplete specs I will submit it.
As mods though it's in your hands as to whether you use them. All I know is that some times I've been after an Australian or UK title which doesn't have a fully detailed listing, only has a front cover or the back cover is 500 pixels or less in height and I've been trying to find specs like audio or aspect ratio. Unlike US titles which have generally been reviewed and/or a number of members have contributed details, the UK and AUS listings aren't so detailed. That's not just something that happens here, the same goes for all around the internet - misinformation or a lack of info abounds, in particular for Australian titles. If I have a scan at a sufficient res to answer the types of questions I have and have gone to the trouble to confirm the specs on the discs then maybe that helps someone else later on too if they're trying to find out the same thing.
I've done accurate high-res scans of front and back covers and confirmed specs for 118 titles so far, not to mention created a Blu-ray case template which seems to be getting around now with plenty of use by other members. It's been a significant effort in terms of time to do this not only for my own use at home but hopefully for members here (just ask my wife
). Each title takes a minimum 30 mins to scan the covers, correct the images, confirm and record the specs on the disc and then submit.
I don't want to waste your time, but it sure as hell makes the time I've spent more worthwhile if not only I get use out of what I've done but other people can too. Uniformity, comprehensiveness and accuracy are what I'm trying to achieve at home for my own purposes and it just seems like that's exactly what your database is here to achieve too.
I won't submit something that I think is doubling up (ie the UK Toy Story releases have high res front covers - even if the case template is hideous!
) because like you say it is a waste of time. I'm not trying to cause trouble, I'm just trying to contribute. Like I said before though, it's all in your hands.
