Default Question on AA subs

I've read the first 60 some pages in this thread starting from post #1. Nowhere on the AA site or here can I find what I'm looking for. Maybe I missed it somewhere? Has AA published these figures?

I'm looking for the db rolloff of some of these subs. All of them if I can find it. My interest is in a small - 10" sub for the bedroom setup. I already have a decent 400w sub in the living room HT.

I haven't seen any. The best you can get is the measurements and graphs I did in Post #3 of this thread. Unfortunately, my room is not excatly an anechoic chamber.

I saw those graphs - looks like you've been playing around and updated it today. It looks like you are just having too much fun.

I'm interested in the PSW-10 - the downfiring driver helps keep a stray foot from damaging the grille or driver. Reading the specs on the DD site they list down to 25hz but fail to give the roll-off numbers. Your graphs all indicate the HD-12 rolls off hard starting at 30hz - I can't imagine the PSW-10 with a somewhat weaker amp matching that. Seems like their specs are a bit sketchy.

I just may pick one up - what the hey - if it dies I have a cabinet that I can stuff an after market driver in and I'm sure I can find another plate amp as well should that origina ampl die.

Any guess as to what they accept on the BIN on ebay for the PSW-10 model?

For bedrooms, they are more than adequate.

The offers they have accepted are all over the place. Make them an offer about $30-$40 below the regular price. You may be able to pick one up below $100.

I don't think I will be integrating my HD-SUB10 into my vintage setup anymore. It just doesn't sound right and ruins the sound of my La Scala speakers if I pass the RCA sound through them. Also, the sound from the sub is very muddy in this arrangement. I have found that passing the audio through the speaker wire connections in the back of the sub does not work. If I turn the gain all the way up a faint sound comes out of them but nothing more. I suspect it may improve if I split the RCA instead of passing it through, but I think I found a better method. I piped out my output from my PC running a Sound Blaster Audigy SE, and screwed around with the software graphic equalizer and WOW! I had no idea I could get the lows I just heard from my La Scalas. It really isn't that surprising since each one has a 15" woofer. Needless to say I do not think subs are needed for this setup. Instead I just purchased a Sony SEQ-711 equalizer from eBay. So, my HD-SUB10 gets put into my HT (where I wanted it anyway after hearing it). I think the output from the sub was more suited for movies than music, but that has a lot to do with my equipment I think. Now I just need to find it's twin and for cheap.

Well guys What do I say. I pulled the sub and amp out found the problem grabbed solder , glue and a tinsil lead. Put the new one on ( the one that came. On it was heavily frAyed so I just fixed it. Saved myself some shipping and time. I know noone wants to hear this but After I put the plate amp back on I figured Im gonna hook It up to the amp in my car. I have a Memphis mc1000d that is 1100x1 @ 1 ohm and 300@ 4 so I thought it was perfect. Good clean 4 ohm class d power and a new lead. I grabbed my DMM set the gains and voltage and let her rip with a bass mekanix cd

Actually impressed me and kept going, no signal noise the leads were holdin up and it sounded good. Very impressed. Didn't get to low but it did hit a he'll of alot harder than I expected! After I was done playing I took the sub out ( speaker wire thru the port ) and hooked it back up to the factory Amp. IMO it's just a over rated power supply , cuz when I had that thing running on a$700 class d @ 300 wAtts playing a bass cd it was moving and soundin pretty good ( and yes I did a ghetto style install. Put the whole cabinet in my trunk. Looked nice )

now it's been playing music and movies since , but once I get some polyfil I'll do some more around the room testing.

Also big daddy if you want to delete my thread about all this, go ahead. Just cuz I'm a little bummed doesn't mean it's not good for someone else. I was more mad at the company , than anyone who rec'd them or the actual sun itself , and I was a little out of line. So sorry guys ifi came across as a douche, but I was just upset and frustrated...

See I'm slowly getting better

hey congrats on your whole re-configuring. I just hope it works out for you in the end. we ALL know how frustrating something like that can be, so no worries. now hopefully the HD-Sub15 won't come with any "defective" working issues... - good luck dude.

actually lol we had a mutual no sale. So that now is not coming. That's ok this sub will be good enough for now. Instead of the hdsub 15 I'm gonna buy my mom a garmin nuvi265 wt. Gps.

but yea it sucked but I hope it holds up and can't wait to have this thing positioned properly with the extra polyfil and breakin done. Although I think my car demo really broke this thing in lol

Man that's good to hear. I know how it goes on expecting something and it not panning out like you expected..but that's how this whole internet buying is...since you can't go and hear what you want to buy. Glad everything worked out and hope you didn't take anything anyone said to personally. Peace!

cool news. Yes, the Polyfill will definitely help it Punch even tighter I am sure. I'll be looking at getting the HD-SUB15 in a couple weeks.

I'm happy it worked out for your in some way mj. Its a tough spot to be in when your excited about something, and it underperforms for any reason. Nice job on fixing the issue too.

Well I've had mine for about 4 hours now and all I can say is WOW! This baby puts out some bass! I've been watching some blu's and dvd's. The only difference between the two is I have the gain on the PA-120 at 12 o'clock and the AA sub at around 10 o'clock for blu's and on dvd's the PA is on 2 o'clock an the AA is on 12 o'clock. There is just so much more bass now. I don't know if it's the lower extension on the AA or just having another sub in general. There was a part on Kong I hadn't heard before when the T-rex grumbled. It was too cool! I can feel the bass pretty much every where in the house now. I really am please where the placement is. I went around to about 4 listening areas and the bass was only off around 3 db's from the lowest to the highest place. All in all this sub for the money can't be beat! I do believe the PA has a place in my HT. I love this sub as well! I really hits hard in the 50-70 hertz range....I've graphed it in the near 100db. They compliment each other really well! I base lined them before I ran audeysey to find the proper reference level and then ran audessey. Audeysey was really close. I bumped up the gain in the reciever to get the db to 80(it was set almost 75db in 3 seating areas. Audeysey did a good job on my other speakers as well. I haven't done a test in 1/3 octaves yet but for now I'm really happy with how this sub performs!

Congratulations. I am glad everything worked out. I am sure your WAF already hates you for buying a new sub.

Yeah but I got to put it where I originally wanted to. It's up front and on the left. I got to move a plant..yeah!!!!!! Now I don't have to run any rg6 cable through the attic....double She didn't want it there. I thought for sure I'd get a big no where I have it now but it has a smaller footprint than the PA that it fit there pretty good. I have it about 8 inches away from the wall....oh yeah I got some left over polyfill to put in it so that may help it even more.

Here's where I've got the AA right now. Probably will be it's new home...unless I just find a spot that just kills. I think the black compliments the Polks nicely. The feet on the polks are kind of a silver which matches the top of the AA sub. Cool.

Here's where the PA sub is...i've got it on some of that stuff you buy to put fake flowers in..it's green but spray painted it black...anyone think it would be better if I spray glued them to a peice of mdf with carpet on it? A grampa knockoff.

Since your floor is made of tiles, it may help to put an area rug under the subs. It shouldn't be too difficult to find a color that matches the tiles and makes WAF happy.

Thanks Irrob...it's been everything I hoped and more! MJ's bum sub had me a little worried but I know in mass produced electronics that does happen at times.

Well, my HD SUB 10 came today. I unhooked my PL-200 and hooked up the AA just to compare it. When I first turned it on, I thought something was wrong as it was quite and struggling to put out anything(This is with it BRAND NEW)

Well, after, I shit you not, just 10 minutes of leaving the room with some bass heavy music playing, I came back, and it was much louder. It needed a few minutes to break in I guess.

The thing is awesome, it puts out really good bass. Its obvioulsy a little quiter than my PL-200, but I expected that.

I've hooked them both up now, and adjusted them with some pink noise. After some fine tuning, I have the PL-200 at about 10 o'clock, and the AA at 12 o'clock, and they sound the same to me now, so I reran audyssey and popped in Transformers on Bluray.

MY GOD, with both subs blaring it was unbelievable, i went into my reciever's menu and knocked down the sub level by just a couple clicks.

Everything sounds great, and my house is shaking off its foundations.
