@Dragon_Ranger

You're welcome. The Prequels are immensely quotable.

[Show spoiler]everybody getting killed or murdered in the end by each other, including all of Nerv, Misato, and Ritsuko by Gendo. The tone shifts too dramatically. Followed by all of the psycho babble masquerading as something deep and philosophical. It also spends too much time in the abstract, exploring what amounts to relatively simple (to explain or depict on-screen) social concepts of abandonment, acceptance, plus adolescence. I think that the execution of most of the ending is quite messy, no matter how hard I tried to like it. Shinji and Asuka are almost entirely insufferable during the last two episodes plus the movie. They're not the same characters we knew during episodes 1-24. There was a huge tonal shift, and uneven storytelling.

I like most psychological thrillers too. But I believe that this one was poorly executed near the end, and tries hard to make you hate all the characters that you love.
I feel pretty much the same way. EoE felt like Anno was giving people who hated the original ending what they "wanted" while also
[Show spoiler]turning Shinji, their PoV character, into a disgusting jerk
. If anything it's only made me appreciate what the original ending was trying to do more.

"disgusting jerk"

Well I know what scene you are referring to without even having to ask. That scene is iconic.

Yeah, that was incredible. I had never seen End of Evangelion before, even though I have watched the whole series previously. When I finally turned it on and started watching I actually laughed outloud during the initial hospital scene with Asuka, paused the stream, and went to go do some web browsing for a bit instead. Talk about shock value!

It can be taken so many ways. Horror, disgust, and your case it sounds like it was so absurd you couldn't help but laugh. Perhaps it is all of those things.

So was this a hit on Netflix?

Also wonder how much closer we are to having this on Blu-ray.

I'm assuming Netflix has a minimum of 1 year exclusivity. Not a shot in hell we see this on Blu-ray before holiday 2020 if we're very lucky.

2020? HAH.

I hate to say it, but it's more like 4 or 5 years from now at the earliest unless someone pays tens of millions of dollars to even try to release it before then.

Is it possible someone besides Netflix has the home video distribution right like with The Seven Deadly Sins where Funi got them and released it?

Certainly, anything is possible, but I'm not aware of anyone who does.

Oh yeah I was being veeery hopeful there.

Another thing, wasn't the reason for leaving the original unreleased because they wanted to promote the Rebuilds first?

Considering Japan got an official Blu Ray release back in 2014, where as North America did not - I think it's safe to assume that an HD physical release might not ever happen. Hell, a standard definition DVD re-release might not ever happen either because of how much the Evangelion license is worth now compared to when it came out in 1995.

If Sentai Filmworks or Funimation doesn't pick up distribution rights within the next two years for OG Evangelion, especially now that Netflix has exclusive streaming rights, then I don't think it's ever going to happen...

The price for physical distribution rights for Evangelion is probably just too damn expensive for most companies.

If Funimation was in a position to acquire distribution rights for OG Evangelion, I'm sure they would have acquired it at the same time they got rights to the Rebuild Evangelion films. They didn't...

Why was this necessary? Is the goal to simply start disagreements and make the boards a negative place to be?

Eva is too valuable a commodity to NOT release, but it's very likely not going to be until after the fourth rebuild movie has been released.
