At first I thought you were crazy thinking that. But after looking at Kentucky's schedule I suppose a top-25 ranking isn't completely far-fetched. They do have aucky draw this year for an SEC team. Their schedule only has one road game against a ranked team and that's Florida. It's nowhere near as tough a schedule as most other SEC trams. It's possible they could keep their losses to 3 or 4 and end up with a ranking.

Exactly

I honestly think we will beat Florida next week. Florida isn't the team it has been in the past, obviously.

I wish UK would have just went out and hired a former NFL Head Coach for this season. We need someone who will bring in a lot of 5 Star recruits lol. We need someone like that to be known as a "Pro Football" factory like we are in basketball lol.

Locker took a gamble returning for anther season and so far it's not working out. He really should have cashed out and gone pro last year. He'll probably end up pulling a Matt Leinhart and being drafted a good deal later than he would have if he went pro one year earlier.

Also happened to Brady Quinn if I recollect, can't remember why Aaron Rodgers fell like a stone, think it had to do with his robot-like throwing motion at Cal.

Come on now. Kentucky is never gong to get 5-star football recruits. It's always been a basketball factory. Kentucky has exactly two SEC titles in over 60 years.

I don't see Kentucky as a football state, really. For one thing it's kind of in the middle, away from the media spotlight(basketball aside) and for another, I don't think its economy could support the kind of money it'd take to start wooing top high school recruits.

Yes, we have always been a basketball factory. Football has really been heating up over the past 5-10 years, around the time Rich Brooks started in 06 it really started booming.

Yeah, we are basketball first and foremost, but football is catching up. Our economy down here isn't that bad. I think we could squeeze off a few bucks for some top talent.

Correct. It's near impossible for them to be competing for the same recruits with the other big southern schools. With good coaching and playing they can squeak out some nice seasons here and there, but I really can't foresee them winning the SEC East anytime soon. Even on a down year I see Florida taking care of business next week. The interesting factor is how big the playoff system is going to be, if we can get a sixteen team system in place then it opens the door for lesser teams in big conferences who have unusually great seasons. I personally would love a sixteen playoff system, we'd finally get a true national champion.

Wow NMSU got clowned by UTEP, you know you're less than mediocre when you get killed by a school like that.

My Doggies are killin' me!

Hurts losing relatively close and/or winnable games against South Carolina and Arkansas in back-to-back weeks, but I'd rather be 1-2 than have no football at all.

Excellent win by MSU last night. That fake FG in OT was so risky, MSU's coach had a heart attack after the game! (Had surgery, is expected to be ok)

By the way, I CANNOT believe Alabama is still on "The Lead" on ESPN's bottomline for beating up....Duke. It was Duke, people. Some high school baseball teams could beat Duke.

And that's the issue with Kentucky. Steve Spurrier thought he could buck the system and get recruits to go to South Carolina. But even with his name recognition he's never dont any better than making SC more than a 5-6 loss program each year. The best Kentucky can probably do is lock down the top HS recruits from their own state. But even that talent pool cannot hope to compete with other southern states.

The state of Florida is just too flush with a mass of great high school football talent. States like Kentucky and South Carolina just cannot produce anywhere near that level of talent and very few top-tier recruits are going to sign with traditional SEC doormats when they could play for Florida schools or SEC powerhouses like Alabama of LSU.

Aaron Rodgers falling in the draft was no fault of his own. He was expected to be top-5 or 10 but slipped to #24 mainly because most of the teams decided to draft need over talent and passed on a QB. That's something they are no doubt regretting now.

Damn. After that great Michigan St.-Notre Dame game the MSU head coach literally had a heart attack. He's only 54 years old. Sounds like he's recovering thankfully.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5592217

Quote:
Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio had a heart attack late Saturday night after his team's overtime victory against Notre Dame, the school said Sunday in a news release.

Dantonio, who was "resting comfortably" Sunday and expected to make a full recovery, was admitted to the emergency room at Sparrow Hospital and had a stent put in a blocked artery near his heart not long after the Spartans used an audacious fake field goal to win 34-31.

Dantonio will be out indefinitely and offensive coordinator Don Treadwill will coach in his absence. Dantonio will remain hospitalized for several days. The No. 25 Spartans play Northern Colorado on Saturday.

"This is a time for Spartan Nation to rally around Coach D and the football program," Michigan State athletics director Mark Hollis said in the news release. "We all look forward to his return to the sidelines. The thoughts of the entire Spartan family are with Coach D, his wife Becky and his daughters Kristen and Lauren."

Big game for Miami Thursday night, it's a must win game. We're going into a hostile environment and once again the pressure is on Jacory Harris. Let's hope he rises to the occasion this time. And while I'm on the topic, let's do a better job establishing the run this time. I know we have a stable of great players at both receiver and running back, but let's try and stay balanced.

Iowa running back Jewel Hampton is out for the season with a knee injury. Hampton missed all of last season with a knee injury. Iowa now has no depth at running back behind Adam Robinson. It doesn't look like Brandon Wegher will play this season as he deals with personal issues (the rumor is he reportedly got 2 girls pregnant), and Paki O'Meara is hurt and unlikely to play this week (plus he's not very good). That leaves 2 true freshmen in Brandon Coker and De-Andre Johnson, who are both recovering from injuries and have not played yet this year.

Why would the one guy not play just because he knocked up some girls?

Sounds like Iowa has to take it easier on its RBs if all of them are hurt (except the dude with super baby-making ability).
