Wrote Sony and stated YLOD problem...asked if there was any plan to NOT charge $150 to fix my 60GB PS3 as the net is flooded with complaints about this issue. Response suggest Sony is not ready to admit any problems...
"Hello xxxxx, We apologize that your PLAYSTATION(R)3 computer entertainment system has a power problem. We apologize if this has caused you any inconvenience or concern. The information available to our Consumer Services Department does not suggest that this is a problem PlayStation(R) owners are likely to experience. Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) strongly supports the quality of its products and backs them with full confidence. The following Knowledge Center article(s) may help resolve your problem: Article Title: Power problem troubleshooting Article Link: http://playstation.custhelp.com/app/...etail/a_id/526 Please note that the manufactures warranty for the PlayStation system is 1 year from the date of purchase. In order to have your system serviced under this warranty, you will need to provide a copy of your printed store receipt. If you are outside of the 1 year warranty period, or cannot provide a copy of your store receipt, you will be required to pay a fee. If problem persist your system will need to come in for service. You may submit your own Exchange Order using our Self Service Exchange for quick and easy processing on the Internet. Please visit our Self Service Exchange page for more information." Oh well...I didn't expect anything different, but maybe my complaint will snowball with others. |

As my earlier post suggests - Sony isn't ready to pony up on the YLOD issue just yet...but they are making good on repairs to the systems even if opened. |

i dont want the 60gb back due to the constant ylod issue, i dont feel like watching a refurb. dying again since it isnt even the original I sent in. They recieved it and shipped out a console in less than one days time so i know its not my original system. I chose the slim option and it better be the slim. I have to start back from scratch anyways since I never backed up my system so I rather start over with the slim. I dont care about bc but care more about the lower power consumption.

when my 60gb died, I couldnt deactivate my account and i already used my 5 actavations. I have over $500 worth of content mainly RB songs so I really didnt want to have to rebuy those. THe called the first time, and the guy only reset my video account since its a 1 system account and not the game. The second call the girl told me no unless I sent in 3 consoles previuosly. THe third guy told me it was illegal for Sony to deactivate my account if 4 others are active due to game sharing and the agreement that Sony has with the other software companies. After I talked to him for 30 mins telling him that I had no way to deactivate the other accounts, that my sysetem yellow lighted and coudnt mainly do it before I sent it in, and that Sony even wants u to share content that I asked to speak with a manager. So I tell the manager the same thing that I can not deactivate my account due to the yellow light, and such that he'd talk to tech. and ask and said more likly they'll say no. Im like crap. So after about a 5 min wait, the manager comes back on and says they will do this for me only once and If I call back about this again, they will hang up on me right away. He also said take this as a lesson to never ever use ur account information on others machines since now they are really cracking down on account resests. I said thank you and hung up. I say I got pretty lucky.....I learned my lesson.!
Advice to others: 1. Back up your system 2. If you think your system is on the go, deactivate it and get it repaired. 3. Dont take no for an answer! ![]() |

Hi. I recently tried to upgrade my 60gb ps3 to 500gb and ran into some problems Im hoping someone can help me out with. I followed all the steps like I was supposed to but once I restored all my backup data it stopped and gave me an error code. Then asked to rebuild my hard drive i selected yes, and once it was done everything looked fine My problem came when I checked saved data utility folder and realized m entire rock band save file was completely gone. not only that but my game data utility, and my memory card utility folder (which holds all my psone and ps2 saves) were completely empty! everything i downloaded from psn was also gone. i've heard of this happening to other people, but only when switching a hard drive from one ps3 to a different ps3. im hoping somebody can help me out and tell me what i need to do to swap hardrives without losing all of these files. p.s. i know i can re-download everything back from the psn store, but i'd rather just restore it all instead of having to download it all over again. i'd like to have this done asap so any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you start over? If you put the 60GB back in, does your PS3 recognize it and all the data on it, or would it try and re-format that as well? If it does, see if you can put your back-up data onto the 60GB drive and see if the game saves come through. Then start the whole process over again...
I upgraded from 60GB to 320GB and all my save data came over, so can't offer anything more on that area. Sorry. |

What do you guys think about leaving a disk inside the PS3, is that bad? i've heard its not good for the laser? i dont know but i dont leave my games in there anymore.
Also, do you guys turn the PS3 off from the back when your done using it? i use to do that but now i leave it on all the time. 24/7. |

IIRC, you only need to worry about the disc, not the player.
I always eject and fortunately when I went YLOD, I was doing Home at the time and not a game/movie. I don't turn off the switch when I'm done playing, leave it in standby. If you're concerned about power draw, you could turn it off. |

i dont think it causes the machine any extra stress (expierenced 60gb onwer for 3 years). The only way I feel that it could damage your system is switching it without doing a proper shutdown first. I think the best you can do for your system is shutting it down, switching off the power from the back and then unplugging it totally from the socket. Even when the system is off, the system is still consuming a little bit of power if left plugged in. Dont know if that would cause any stress but it'll take the stress off your power bill.
